It is very boss...and if you use these instructions...you can use it to bypass the Modern UI entirely when your PC starts up,
and get kicked straight to the desktop.  Good times.   :happy0203:

Those instructions bypassing login altogether arc. Which won't work for me.

I'd rather not have the kids gaining unrestricted access to the PC.

Classic Shell looking like epic win.

That's what I love about this site yes....well played preston, well played

+1 to you sir.

Installed and working like a champ. Think this may deserve its own thread.

Well I don't have that particular problem...yet.  :laughing7:
I can certainly understand why though...considering what passes across my screen sometimes.  *ahem* :happy0203:

I hate login screens.

New addition to the ever-evolving rig arrived today...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pixel-Perfect-CROSSOVER-27Q-LED-P-27-DVI-QHD-Pivot-Model-Free-shipping-/330766744151?pt=Computer_Monitors&hash=item4d033bfa57

http://www.overclock.net/products/crossover-27q-led-p/reviews

I decided to grab one of these based on the many, many reviews done by owners across the world.
The difference in image quality between this and the Samsung 1920 x 1080 LCD monitor I've used for the past few years is ASTONISHING!!!

Not to mention the stupid new amount of screen real-estate. :awesome:

I'm talking NIGHT and DAY difference here folks...
Colours are so vibrant...blacks are so, well, black:laughing7:

Gaming at that resolution is really something to behold.  Fired up Far Cry 3 as an acid-test, and boy, was I blown away.
The colour gamut on a LED screen in that game is so vivid, I had to turn down the backlight intensity.  OMFG.

If you're thinking of buying one of these, I suggest you buy from that same seller link I posted above.
He will literally FedEx it to your skybox within 5 days...FROM South Korea.  I sh*t you not.

The only cons thus far:
 - Lack of on-screen display
 - DVI-D dual-link input only

Oh, there are versions with more inputs, but those cost significantly more.
For what's on offer here though, I cannot complain.

Now my graphics cards REALLY have some work to do.  :happy0203:

Ah boy arc, welcome to the club, now u experiencing my obsession with 30" monitors using and gaming @ 2560 * 1600 resolution, and you'll soon quickly find yourself requiring several gpu upgrades lol. Making the jump from 1080p does take alot out of them cards. Especially if you paranoid about minimum frame rates like i am.

Wait, i now watch d price, wta, lol, bess price for that.

This me:
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U3011-30-Monitor/dp/B004KKGF1O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1356054535&sr=8-1&keywords=dell+30%22

And ah HP version.

I want ah third, at the price that ebay man selling that for, i mite consider it, but kinda want to stick to 2560 * 1600 across the board, for possible eyefinity gaming at some insane res in the future.

...in every respect.

I'm happy to report that there are zero issues, and zero dead pixels.

...and Crysis looks absolutely GLORIOUS @ 2560 x 1440... :awesome:

If you do, don't even bother with Origin...and you will have to use a crack on your legit game because EA and SecuROM DRM will tell you that you need to 'upgrade from Windows 98/2000'.  :/

Re: Arcmanov's HTPC evolves...
« Reply #738 on: January 06, 2013, 05:46:42 AM »
Finally had some time to complete my little (literally  ) HTPC upgrade project...

Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced
Thermaltake 600W PSU
Gigabyte H61N-USB3
Intel Celeron G540
2 x 4GB Kingston DDR3-1333 (low profile)
XFX Radeon HD 7750
Toshiba/Samsung DVD-RW drive
Hitachi 500GB 2.5-inch laptop HDD (5400 rpm)

Took quite an effort to put together, because of the space constraints.  Actually had to remove the PSU to plug everything into
the motherboard.  The bloody CMOS pins are right below the PSU up in a corner, so is PAIN if I ever have to clear it.
It was worth the time and effort though.  Right now it's running flawlessly with Windows 8, and it's doing exactly
what I need it to do...no more, no less.

Maybe later down in the year I'll think about upgrading the CPU and GPU to something a little 'meaner'.  Maybe.
