Title: GATT and YOU
Post by: SHiZZ on February 06, 2007, 09:40:57 PM
Hey everyone as a result of the last meeting. See here http://gatt.carigamers.com/index.php/topic,10203.0.html (http://gatt.carigamers.com/index.php/topic,10203.0.html) There are a few things that GATT will be looking towards doing.

Basically there are a few key things that us as a whole need to work on and it will take all of you (the membership) to help us achieve this.

At the moment we are looking at Coca Cola getting involved in some of our projects, details as to the level of involvement will come as admin have more detailed information to give. This is expected to hopefully play a major role in the things listed below. Failing these we are still going to do whatever we can to:

1. Increase the amount of tournaments and events that Local gaming produces.

1. Promote healthy communication and competition between  all local gaming organisations and Gaming Locations (GLS)

1. Constantly develop our subculture and enjoyment for this pastime/hobby/skill of our that we collectively call gaming at one time or another.

A rough schedule of things to come   are:
Dota tournament - March 18th Java gaming cafe
Console - Tournament (Tekken) - April (GATT)
SHiZZiES tournament online - April Online
VGA HALO 4v4 MAY first 2 weeks
GATT COD 5v5 MAY last 2 weeks
Console 3rd strike Street Fighter MAY GATT

Other unconfirmed Tournaments
Counter Strike - Java
Gears of War – VGA
Soldiers of Fortune – GATT
Company of Heroes – VGA

You can add Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike on March 4th @ Java to that list.

Nice, Id like to encourage everyone to post their suggestions thoughts and feeling in this thread where the general direction of GATT is concerned. Stop lurking in the shadows and make a statement, we need all voices to come out or else we would be making decisions on a little to decide upon.

I would like to propose a tournament for a couple of games that I have been dying to give some exposure for a very long time.

The first of those games is Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
I have noticed that, in very recent times, tournaments have been virtually condensed to hosting games like Tekken 5 and Soul Calibur 3. While these games are very popular and certainly warrant some active competition, I feel that, over time, some of the other games, like Marvel vs. Capcom 2, have been left behind in the dust. I'd like to propose bringing this game back into the limelight, to add some variety into the gaming menagerie we're assembling. To me, this game has some very worthy competitors, and I would like nothing more than to see these guys dust off their controllers and take to the stage once again.

The second game is Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
I believe that this game does have some potential for some serious competitive play (albeit with a few tweaks to ensure fair, balanced gameplay), and, speaking as a personal fan of the series, we should find some way to give this game some exposure to the Trinidadian gamers. Perhaps, even, give them some incentive to branch out the talents that they currently possess in other games, such as Tekken and Soul Calibur.

I do have some experience in hosting tournaments in the past, so I'm somewhat versed in how these things run.
Of course, if anybody is interested in taking me up on my offer, I'd like to chat and discuss some ideas to really take this off the ground.

I have a couple of suggestions

1. Have something with Super Smash Bros. Melee, there are tons of people that play it, might be easier to get a decent crowd in smash than alot of other well known fighting games. Smash is very much under appreciated.

2. Try to mix teams and singles events if time permits. I'm planning a few 3v3 things on the console side of things. If they'll materialize is another thing. 3v3 tekken ftw.

3. Try to get some media (outside of pictures) across to the persons who could not make it. I try to get a  few match vids from every tournament I hold (actually I try to get all but that rarely works out). If I had a camcorder I'd do cam footage of games taking place just to give people an idea of the atmosphere.

I'm all for the smash bros, but if we are to record anything, I dont want it to look like a bunch of noobs taping a sweat. If its a tournement, get someone who can handle the camera in such a way to make it look as remotely professional as possible so that we as Gamers in Trinidad doh look like a set a jokers.

Neo if u can guarantee to get at least 8 people in the tournament. I'll throw organise it and throw 100 towards the prize pot.

Awesome.
I'll see what I can do.
A game like Mortal Kombat: Armageddon might take some testing of the waters first, though.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 would definitely net a few people.

Any possibility of a warhammer dark crusade tourney? Im not sure if there is enough demand locally to warrant it but i do know a few well that would be interested, especially those who a little tired of dota.

ill try to get a contingent of people who may be interested.

im seein company of heroes posted already so good.

and unreal 2004 is a great choice for fps tourneys.

The proposed increase of activities is commendable.  I like this new direction.
