Title: Competition Worthy Games
Post by: TriniXaeno on January 12, 2009, 01:17:02 PM
I'm looking for an informal list of what games you think are "current" competition worthy titles on the local scene?

Two categories, 1v1 and Team.

The next step will be "who do you think" are the greatest players in said games. So start having a think about that one time. Drop some names with your submission if you've already got a clue who the killers are in the respective title.

I'll start with the obvious:

1V1:
~~

Tekken 5 DR PS3 (Exodus, Bryan Master, Graeme, Analyst, Tao, Ras)
Smash Brothers Brawl Wii
Soul Calibur 4 PS3 (Graeme, Teknoman, Imperial_X, Bankai)

TEAM:
~~~
COD 4
DOTA
Sheppard has surpassed all of the names mentioned for Tekken. His progress has really been amazing and does live up to the name Analyst. Don't sleep on Whiplash either.
Ras and Putao as well for Tekken.
Washington has a mean Mitsurugi in Soul Calibur too, goes by the name Bankai nowadays.
Keep it coming.
tnkx rb.. Based on character knowledge,punishment,strats and defence i would say in no order:
1.Graem
2.Speppard
3.dont have n e 3rd(sorry)
There is lots of potential for trinidad in tekken but most ppl dont wanna learn the game(all aspects),they just wanna play.
The thing with sheppard is that he doesn't put out anymore than he has to which becomes truly evident in a tournament scenario. Outside of tech wars has he really lost any tournament he entered in the last 2 years ?
if a guy is at level 3, shepp has to play at level 4 to win...That doesnt mean he has reached level 10.... or n e body in trinidad for that matter..I not taking n e thing away from shepp eh.
Street Fighter 4
Tekken
Tatsunoko vs Capcom
FIFA
Smash Bros
Team
Cod:MW2 (W@W is not as good as MW)
Killzone 2
Halo 3
blu vice i don't think you should leave out a game Cod: WaW because of an opinion you have of the game.
I do agree with you suggestions of these games being included. I hear whispers of tournaments but I don't see anything happening. Either they are non-existent, are kept within the ranks of long time gatters or not properly publicized.
This can be seen by that fact the above posters naming men/women who they think a best in a game. I for one have never heard or seen these people play but I'm pretty sure I have a guy that can beat them all.
Post by: Crixx_Creww on February 11, 2009, 02:00:36 PM
lol @ yu have a guy who can beat them all?
so then its YOU who needs to come out of the shadows more
cause the names we call, we dont call them out of obscurity, these men have been tried and tested over and over very publicly and some internationally. I use men here too because not since the likes of rabid panda have we been able to hoist a female up to ungodly status.
@ crix crew, I wasn't talking about me personally, although I've beaten many a guy in soul calibur 3 in Trincity Mall. I was talking about I know someone who could beat those guys or give serious competition.
Also I wasn't saying they're not good or worthy of your mentions but to highlight the fact the new people to gatt could feel kind of left out because these tournaments not publicized enough so we could participate or see these guys play.
I would love to see them play. I never see anyone good at Soul Calibur in the mall. I keep repeating soul calibur cause that is the only game you all mention that I play.
Title: Re: Competition Worthy Games
Post by: Crixx_Creww on February 11, 2009, 03:10:16 PM
oh ok
well calibur has its following, iam a die hardcore fan but i dont get to compete or anything to busy
BUT i still know who and where teh competition lies, i guess its cause ive been around long enuff to.
I not saying its newbies fault they dont know who the greats are... but i AM putting the screws to the "i know someone who could beat the people alyuh mentioning" thing cause my self and the others veterans have seen and heard the claims and have watched the upstarts crash and burn and i think our stance is a good one, because it sifts through the chaff and finds the real gems. We have seen men come out of obscurity and shine but its rare and heat and pressure are needed to make diamonds so, MAS FUEGO!!!
yur not likely to find real competition in trincity arcade randomly unless imperial or myself are there that day.
like ive randomly bounced up imperial in trincity and strangely enough airport arcade
and quietly weve played xmen tekken and soul calibur
cause those are really the only arcade games i play, unless kof 98 and the last blade 2 are there :P
but i wouldnt mind playing yu in any calibur once the controls are working and i can pick sophitia if i see fit.
Title: Re: Competition Worthy Games
Post by: TriniXaeno on February 11, 2009, 04:09:01 PM
soul calibur is boss. I'm not sure if playing it at an arcade is really relevant anymore given the number of consoles on the landscape.
Still think Soul Calibur 2 was perfect. Three and four didn't quite hit the spot but I run amok in four with Shura and Taki, personally. lol
You have been promised a beating China, which I hope to deliver on sometime soon. If you can blaze me, then we will arrange for some of the killers to take a bite.
You're on Xbox 360 right?
Wow...I haven't been on here in ages.  I'll try to dust the cobwebs off of this account a little more regularly.
On to business then.  Well said laertes.  I couldn't agree more.  As much as I disliked SC3 for numerous reasons, I picked it up because people in Trinicity mall were playing it.  I go where the competition is generally.  It just so happens that Astaroth is god in that game so it made the experience more tolerable.  Still, it wasn't as horrible as some of the times I've had playing Tekken though.
Who's this Chinarakinda person?  I play at Trinicity from time to time.  If you'd like to play SC 1-3 we could arrange something but as with my experience, it's the hardest thing to get people to come out of their hiding places to come play.  Make sure to bring your friend too if you decide to make the outing.  Send me a private msg so we can coordinate timing and all that if you still give one enough to come out from behind your pc screen.
In Fighting game related news, I found Prez on psn.  Seems he plays hd remix with some of the online top dogs.
Oh yea, if anyone here is on PSN and wants to go at it in SC4 and HD Remix my PSN Handle is Imperial_X
yeah NGW i'm on xbox 360. Does the online lag for you?
I'm akini's sister, he says he knows you. A short guy with glasses. He mainly plays Yoshimitsu.
You want to arrange a meeting in arcade or console- gatt location?
I'd love to go at it on HD Remix but I can't seem to play against anyone on my friends list, only by randomly joining a game on the internet. Have you suceesfully got it working with ppl on your list?
Hey all Akini here, chinarakinda is my sister. I was the guy she's referring to...if you all want to play Soul calibur, hit me up. I'm not interested in weaklings....so your mouths better reflect your gameplay or i'd be dissapointed.
It doesn't matter which of the series you want to play by the way although i only play SC4 now.
typical gunz talk lol
is like nonames does read a manual on how to be obnoxious and ensure a beat down sigh
just once, a humble challenger with skills to back it up would be nice
like was stated, yu have me ngw and imperial to play if yu so desire in calibur
if yu play anything else let us know.
Being cocky makes ppl want to beat u and brings competition heh heh. You mean i should be humble like u crixxx crew? hahaha.
Anyway this 'noname' will enjoy playing you :)
It'll be fun playing imperial again....haven't seen him in a while :)
I only play soul calibur.
Title: Re: Competition Worthy Games
I really thought that somehow, Akini was going to pop up in this as "that guy" she was talking about.  Aye bro, long time no see.
Well yea fellas, I'll just say, that locally this, guy is the best SC player I've ever played.  I've said this already too.  I've only gotten 1 or 2 wins every few dozen games.
Hell, seems there's a reason to pull Astaroth out of retirement from SC4.  Seems like you're on XBL.  I walk a different path so I don't know how an SC4 skirmish can take place without some creativity.  But yea, I should be around in Trinicity Mall around 5pm on Saturday.  Let's get this started.
Wait, Eroo are you Limit GTX?  I think some party we both can connect to has to create a game that we both join.  Sometimes that crashes the room entirely and sometimes it boots the people that can't connect out leaving the host.  Either way it means no game.  What I can do is send someone who can connect to you to Screw Pile Driver the life out of you on my behalf.  If you can beat Villadoza or Sir_Papacha's Zangief then you have a chance albeit a miniscule one, at winning against me.
Anyway I'm off to the Dragon Punch Temple to meditate.  Word.
as soon as I am back from Tobago, I'll organise a lil session as well. We ran some sc sweats by teknoman a few weeks ago. He's a decent player too. St. Joseph side.
If imperial says you're good, you're good.
you're right about being cocky, in that it makes people want to play (beat) you but unfortunately it can also make you a cu*t. So yes, taking that approach might get a few games to begin with but then things get testy and edgy and you end up with less sweatage in the long run because so much is on the line with each game.
Friendly competition has proven to have much more staying power. Though without the "your very reputation rests on every strike" intensity. That could wait for tourney time imho.
Naturally, you're free to choose whichever approach you think will get you the results you want. Some people live for the fierce, intense competitive fights and are not at all interested in social sensibilities. lol
Personally, both work for me so welcome to the war.
Taki will be clashing blades with you soon enough.
In person you'll see how nice/quiet/cool a guy i am :) ask imperial...i'm never really serious honestly.
I really posted how i posted to shut crixxx crew up...for what he said to my sister, he talks too much and to me HE's the noname. I want him to know just cuz someone doesn't post on forums doesn't meant he's an unfamiliar....i've been  playing SC since trincity mall arcade was on the old end of the mall. Colsort mall arcade in town was around at that time.
I've played almost ALL players that played ANY SC in trincity mall and trinidad in general.
Since imperial will be there saturday i'll pass through briefly and flake the rust of the weapon, let's see if Crixxx crew is  all talk.  He needs to be humbled. Let's see you beat down my Yoshi :)
Lol at shut me up, never happen buddy.
Secondly, its like being in the matrix movie, and the veterans are the architect, we've seen people new to the forum do this sort of thing a million times, and can predict the choices they will make, because its almost like they follow a formula or something.
Chinara said she knows "a guy" that could beat all of us.
No named called
So you were referred to as no name.
And everything that has followed subsequently, has happened before, and will happen again.|
*le sigh*
And as for your yoshimitsu, would be glad to oblige.
the best newby challengers experience i ever had were ario and narutospeedfreeak and those guys.
They were humble and just eager to play a lesser known game and they were all very good so it was great fun playing them but of course they are the minority, most challengers are obnoxious and have skill inversely proportional to their bragging and pandering and as for Mr Akini, you dont see us beating up our chess saying we is man, nobody cyah come rong me hyuk hyuk. We accept challenges and look forward to them, we dont go to other peoples home saying they are garbage and not worthy of your time lol, that is the difference between obnoxious and humble.
This is what sparked my post in the first place.
First the LOL....where's the joke she made? did she say something unrealistic, stupid, funny, unfathomable?
Second that sexist statement you made right there
And now u're trying to justify the fact that u called me a noname cuz my sis says 'some guy'? who are you trying to fool really. WE both know you didn't meant it in the way you're saying.  You could've simply said...oi chinara, 'who's this guy you refer to?' end of story. NO you CHOSE to run your mouth about being veterans and basically implying where these newbs are coming from with these challenges. Don't try to justify it, don't try to deny it. You even proceeded to talk about my character and if i should even be taken seriously....How is it YOU are the only one who i have a problem with? Your elitism is astounding....think about it...think about it :)
You better be a cooler guy in person than you are online seriously.
lol, hot nikkelz, this is the "edgy" part I was talking about.
like crixx mentioned, all too often new peeps come here and carry on in precisely this fashion. You say you're not of their ilk then please, don't fall into the same trap.
Keep it friendly. Lets save the clashing for the blades in Soul Calibur.
Ario and his crew were the perfect new comers in every way but we have seen our fair share of fools on these forums over the years, hence crixx's apprehension. I'm a glutton for punishment though, so bring it! lol
You'll find crixx more than a comrade if you are what you say you are. (a competitive gamer and not a scrub with a big mouth)
Imperial's endorsement is enough for me. Respect.
Fought Kull once. He's totally a master of Tekken. Watched him get 31 wins unbeaten in T5DR (then 14 wins unbeaten) in Gulf de other day against some of the best. He might be disappointed at what Gulf had to offer though. Too bad I couldn't fight him more than once. Wasn't supposed to play during work.
(Work at Galactica Gulf. Sometimes in Trincity once a week). BTW, I'm a Xiaoyu freak. Anybody on PSN (flow, please) want some licks in DarkRes? My brother is a killer with King and my sis (12 years old) is crazy with Asuka.
However, I won't be at my best because LAG Kills Xiaoyu.
Anybody want some competition in T5:DR? Even my 12 year old sis can beat anybody guaranteed. (Boasting but true ).
However, I won't be at my best because LAG Kills Xiaoyu.
According to those two posts..In order to get "licks" without lag,(there are worse things for xiaoyu than lag fyi)
We'll have to fight offline.. I see you live in Marabella, im from chaguanas so I can arrange a sweat here if you desire. Ill organise 3 other contenders in the mix so u can beat them up. Bring who u want.
Lag really turns me off. But if I have no choice online ftw...
Remember the man say lag kills his xiayu.. In offline, no gameplay excuses period.
Praying when Tekken 6 comes out it would run close to perfect online. I would take a 1000mb
connection if not. :awesome:
