Title: IMPRESSED
Post by: jasonsjohn1987 on April 26, 2009, 10:53:52 PM
 I've joined this site a while back, i've never really gotten much time to use it...HOWEVER I am very free these days so i started using this site.... I think I got alot of "bad comments" or so from moderators but it was all in fun and "kix"... it was a bit of a bashing LOL however..but...I must say this is the first site i've ever been on that the moderators actually apologize ...and for this I believe now that GATT website has to be one of the best and most mature and respectable websites of its kind... The reason I posted this is too display or show others what really took place...and I am VERY VERY impressed with this...i' have a new founded respect for moderators on this website..

Thank You..

Jason John.

Nuff respect to all d moderators!! Glad you feel that way. That's the idea we are here to help out.

Yes sometimes we do a little bit of bashing but I mean sometimes ppl really ask for it lol. Once you get to know who is who and who to ignore you'll fit in quite nicely :P

I now reviewed his case
it was not bashing, calling him a frakking noob would be bashing.
Letting him know that he paid way to much for his goods and that he cant expect to take us on a similar ride is not bashing.

Also alot of his problems could have been avoided if he had taken a few minutes to read the rules.

So welcome and please do read the rules before anyone else has to step on each others respective toes.

As far as I am aware, the rules for the TOS in the Trading Grounds, with regards to the infractions incurred on your behalf, have been in effect for more than a year and a half at least, which is longer than you've been on the site...I'm unsure of the exact date since the TOS has been modified since then...

*edit* I can be sure that the rules with regards to no phone numbers etc have been in effect since 2007, having seen at least one thread that had been reprimanded due to such violation...

« Last Edit: April 18, 2009, 11:11:53 AM by NoobGoneWild » i quote that from the "trading grounds forum" bro...so like i siad, i didnt know....

Question: whats wrong with having YOUR contact number posted..ALSO..i'm confused with a rule...you cant post your email address but if i click on the little email icon i'd get your email address anyway...so why cant i not post my email address?!

Those little rules are there to prevent non-members who troll the site from getting the jump on legit members
who may not have logged on yet to see new posts on items for sale.

The 'no phone numbers' rule in particular was instituted after just such an occurence, which caused a bit of
an issue, so that step was necessary.

I am not sure if non-members will see the email address icons. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong).

arcman you are 100% correct. Non members will not see the email icon.

jason, the rules in the trading grounds were last amended on the date you highlighted but only to include the rates for commercial advertising. (IE, $250.0 a month to have a commercial post stickied, etc...) Nothing else was changed.

Those rules came to be from many trials and tribulations over the decade.

It takes a lot of humility for a man to admit he was wrong and apologize, even moreso for a man that is a mod, lol

It is en heartening to see your public show of appreciation and respect.

Like SPK says, that is the best approach and it will be reciprocated. Do unto others, and all that good stuff.

Carry on.

Sometimes its better to allow guests to read stuff on the site before joining. It shows them what they gettin into before they do. Alot of times, visitors will leave your site and never return if they are REQUIRED to register before viewing content

yuh see what i never understand is why men does come on the forum, break the rules, give man lip, and when admin and mods tell them bout it, decide to insult ADMIN like is a cool scene, steups on a normal day you woulda collect a ban for dat but this scenario will just be monitored, if you dont follow the rules and decide to continue friction with the community, then so solly chally, youll be gone.

Why would we lock members from reading the site unless the register? Would you buy a car without test driving it first? Almost all other forums allow you to at least view the site w/o registering. If I had to register on each and every forum that I ever visited, I probably would have been a member of 1000 of them.

one thing that irks me is when iam checking the site stats
and iam seeing 50 noobs not signed in and like the same 20 or so people signed in.
yes i agree you should be able to browse before joining
but i just wished there was a way to put like a 30 day trial on it. after that you must log in to see stuff, sigh

Nothing a little marketing and PR work can't fix.

They'd register and still post nothing or sh*tpost (like most other forums). Unless you're planning to turn here into SomethingAwful it really would make any sense to do the alternative.

Lol, good point.

I think the idea is to attract the kind of members we want. A credit to the community.

Surely a few are amongst those "guests" just needing a little extra nudge to join.

But laertes, now that we recently flattened the forum structure, we have very few sub forums, lol.

I'm confused. Could you expound?

OK, currently

Guest goes to www.carigamers.com (http://)

Clicks the forum link

They currently see all the boards on the forum (except for the Trading Grounds which requires a 5 post minimum, the Tournament Team board and the Administrative boards reserved for Staff access only)

What are you suggesting they see as opposed to this?

It is an interesting idea, to limit the guests somewhat, I'm just curious as to what we limit them too (in addition to those already mentioned)

Whoa, just topic headings but not the actual thread discussions?? A bit extreme don't ya think?

Also, that will effectively nuke all of our content from google's database. Their spiderbot won't be able to access the data either as it can't "login" with a user account and can only index content visible to the public.

It would be ok to have a few "premium" member access only boards, that are off limits. Trading grounds made a perfect candidate but what else would be a good fit?
