Title: MMO Recommendations......for MMO haters :)
Post by: rassmatic on August 01, 2009, 12:22:03 PM
I decided to start a thread where people can post info about upcoming MMOs that they believe offers something that even non-fans of the genre would like. Here's a few that hopefully will be coming to the US soon.

C9: Continent of the Ninth: I heard that it will be coming to the US by either year's end or in 2010. Not too sure if it's true, but I really hope the rumors are true.

SUN: Soul of the Ultimate Nation : Well this one's definitely coming to the US. Should be before the end of the year, if nothing delays it. And it's supposed to be absolutely FREE!!! :happy0203:

T.E.R.A The Exiled Realm of Arborea:

At Hangame Invitational 2009, Bluehole Studios unveiled a gameplay trailer for their MMO currently in development. Tera highlights its non-targeting battle mode. In non-targeting battle mode, the player can directly attack monsters without having to select monsters, which is totally different from other MMORPGs out there on the market. This awesome feature will greatly improve the sense of reality and excitement of the game.

Finally, an MMO for me. Fast paced, nonstop action! YAY!

Dungeon Fighter Online: Finally, there's an MMORPG coming out that I can get excited for. While I still think WOW is a pretty good game, I never really got into it like a lot of you have. It just wasn't my type of game. Now Nexon, the guys who brought us MapleStory and Combat Arms, are localizing this 2D, action oriented, Korean MMO to us English speaking folk. And it looks......well just see for yourselves.

Looks pretty sick. Might be a good idea to give it a shot as soon as it's released, when there's not much ppl playing. I've been playing MapleStory for about 2yrs now but it's gotten so crowded that I often can't find a good spot to train.

If GATT'ers are gonna try this out, I say we hit it a concerted effort, to get a real feel for the game...

so not bad indeed.

But i fail to see how any of these games will really make a significant impact on people not already involved in the MMO genre. None of those games are bringing with them anything that says PLAY ME NOW, the only MMO that may bring that feature is Ole Republic, because it has a strong following from the Star Wars community.

really? you don't think that an MMO with fast paced, real-time, Devil May Cry style action would appeal to people who don't like the genre? i'm mean one the main reasons that alot of people don't get into this type of game is the fact that the whole "stand still, attack, stand still, fireball" style of gameplay just seems boring to them. everyone i know that has seen the gameplay for those titles basically said the same thing, "If more MMOs was so, I wudda be playin' dem long time". read some of the youtube comments for the vids. you'd see i'm not the only one who thinks this way.
Title: Re: MMO Recommendations......for MMO haters :)
Post by: rassmatic on August 11, 2009, 07:21:45 PM
well those games may not interest someone like yourself, but for me (any many others apparently), a change in gameplay style is exactly what the doctor ordered. i'm not saying any of these games would become successful but, at the very least IMO, they offer something in them that people who're usually put off by these games can look forward to. kick a$$ action. oh, and standing still and attacking is NOT limited to turn based games. almost all MMOs on the market use that same, tired formula. WOW included.

was a big fan of the d&d hack and slash type games.

Sengoku 1, 2 and 3 as well. Same formula. Awesome games.

Play those on mame every once in a while for the nostalgia but as for playing them as a MMO??? Not so sure.

Judging from the vid, does this even qualify as an mmo? Doesn't look like you're playing with more than 3 or 4 other people at once.

Reviving the thread again, call for all the Free to play (FTP) MMO gamers out there. I'd like to know what games you play and compile a list here.

Seeking at least 5 persons to occupy our own MMO mumble channel, so that we can plan guilds/leagues and on what days we can go raid/grind depending on the game and our available playerbase here.

Also to make note of games tested and not region locked, many a time games get the  :awesome: factor yet when reading the fine print only to realize it's not playable here in T&T or the Caribbean in general.

Say hi in reply to this post here, list locale, then list your current MMOs that you play. For reference of what FTP games are out there ( Gasp! there are good MMOs besides WoW and Star wars and are FTP?) check out the reviews from www.mmohut.com and listen to the video reviews from staff member Omar and others ( and wonder when does this guy get to breathe when he does reviews)
So before you go all wheyyyy and whaaa and *drool* over a new MMO, ask us to test it to see if it works locally FIRST!

So all that said, here's my tested MMO list that works here for T&T. ( in no order, pm me for server details and my IGN in each one)

GATT IGN: Trinilink/ManaHero
Locale: Trinidad

Forsaken World
DC Universe online
Dragon Nest
Dragon Saga
Maplestory (Currently playing)
Angels online
Realm of the Mad god. (not really a MMO, good for a jump in jump out spree and it's on steam)
Eden Eternal
Fallen earth
Spiral Knights
Pandora Saga
Trickster online
These are all that are on my PC currently and they work just fine.

Once we get 5 persons dedicated to one game and at least 3 online for said game, raids can be planned and played. Entrants for submissions are open from kids to adults. :happy0203: Thanks in advance to all submissions.

I'd reason this would be my first PTP MMO, if i can afford it or find a private server, Astounding range and depth, that has me awestruck, typical MMOs have you confined to areas for main maps, but this game is eye candy.... :happy0203: (100)

The Nebulite system is another way to add stats to your gears and equips via an NPC, careful saving of nebulites can add potentials to your gears. One Nebulite to an item though, the remover item is in the NX mall though. If you're in EL Nido, Add ManaSaiyan to your friendlist and i'll give you the rundown when i pop online.

Really sad news.

The game was very solid.

I didn't pick it up after the beta but that was more a matter of being distracted with other great games than any negative review on the part of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Wonder what caused the financial straits?
Title: Re: MMO Recommendations......for MMO haters :)
Post by: TriniLink on May 24, 2012, 10:30:07 PM
From what i read it was back taxes, low funding and the push to get the Kingdoms of Amalur MMO up and running to cover previous expenses... As persons commented, either they go indie or they merge with another company to live on.
Title: Re: MMO Recommendations......for MMO haters :)

just had to say, C9 has the WORST character customization I've ever seen in an RPG. Like they don't know the difference between makeup and tattoos. And doh talk about the hairstyles. Lawd, my character came out lookin like a J-Pop boyband reject. Real sad. But the gameplay's fun if not polished. It still needs a lot of refinement, but i can see myself dumping some hours into it once they get things fixed.

Right this hasn't been updated in awhile so i thought i would take the opportunity to do so since i believe alot of people are missing out and great free to play games, so hear it goes

Lets start with Tera Rising, Formerly Tera Online but now FTP with a cash shop system...this is really worth it guys the battle systems takes away from "Auto-Battle" and puts it in the hands of players who can actually avoid being hit all together

Pros: FTP, extremely fun especially while soloing, Money is easy to make, Leveling is steady and does not require "grinding" to accomplish, Gigantic open world, extremely wonderful graphics. End game equipment is rather easy to get but takes awhile.

Cons: While you can fully solo your way to Max level 60 there is not much to do except raids which become distasteful and repetitive and require good teamplay to become viable.

Your require a tank healer and dps for raid like any other rpg out there and become dependable on your party members doing their part flawlessly.

If you play any class beside tank you can find yourself queued for hours to do dungeons so best to have guild support for this.

Second on the list there is Path of Exile

Those who liked Diablo style would love this. IMO this game shits all over Diablo 3, this is what a game like this was suppose to be.

Pros:FTP, Unique skill tree system, Unique ability system, Can be soloed, Extremely long content, Parties are easy to find, Equipment easy to get.

Cons: Extrreeemmmmly long if you are soloing get a friend and play this. Can be repetitive at times. The simple misclick on the skill tree can turn the tide in the level you are playing and cannot be reverse until lategame or use of cash shop so best to use a guide

Anyhow this IS the true Diablo

Thirdly Absolute Force online for those who like shooters, this game utilizes the unreal 3 engine

Pros: FTP, fairly straightforward interface, Unlockable weapons as you progress, Alot of different modes deathmatch, zombie mode CTF etc.

Cons: Players who actually spend real money to buy weapons will have access to the best their is and give them a slight edge

I have more to add but im tired of typing so i'll update later

Guess what cupcake? Wildstar is here! Here's 5 reasons why it's a keeper. (And yes, i played the 10 day Open beta and it ROCKS!!!!) :awesome:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kK-65p-BHc
Full release is on 1st of June 2014
Buy to play, choose your Launcher type here: http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/preorder/

Grinding? In all the 20+ hours i played, i was never sent on or did a grind quest in this game, the Active attack and quests keep you interested and active, as well as the live and written dialogue that will have any Pixar/ animation fan chuckling. (Especially when you die, and that will be a lot of times) Keep your audio on for this game, it's worth the humor. :happy0203:

What? Still not hyped yet? well watch these flicks and learn what RAIDS and Warplots mean cupcake, because if you got the PVP itch, this will surely will satiate your desire for destruction. As they say the Devs are listening, trust me they do listen, go bug them about a bug or two.

AMMENDED: Buy to play with subscription model, bleh.....

Nuuu!!!!  :ko: :crybaby2:

Unless there are full time gamers who go with the C.R.E.D.D Payment option and will sell it to others  :cat: *Cute cat eyes*, I might opt for the Yearly Subscription.

Wildstar is now Free to play as of today. Go give it a play and see what all the hype is about. I played the beta and as I said above, it rocks either alone or in a team.

Maybe we could start a GATT Wildstar league? I'm all for it. :D
