This is the first time i've heard of this game, posts some links and a personal review that could encourage more of the Trini community to show an interest.

It's a DOTA clone. (sure someone's gonna get pissed reading that, lol)

W1n, you sure you never heard of it? Find that a lil hard to believe.

Played it a bit but retreated to HoN.

Haven't touched it in a while so maybe it has improved tremendously since then.

That seems to be a "feature" of these moba games.

They get surprisingly better with age.

To me this is less ''stress'' than sc2 :)
Title: Re: Trini Players in LoL?
Post by: SiiloTT on February 28, 2011, 04:53:17 PM
Hmmm. I was trying to avoid the arguments on the comparison between different moba titles. LoL is a made for a both young and old audience hence that kind of graphics. So its less stressful than say SC2 and HoN.I would say its less competitive(but still has a good bit of competition in ranked) but for me thats what i want less idiots quitting and raging(believe me there still are).

You can give it a try the site is Leagueoflegends.com

VirtueTT may be more inclined to try, esp as it'll prolly actually RUN on his laptop XD. I have WAY too many games and WAY too little time to give this a go atm, even so i'll give it a fwd.

Less stress means too easy imo. Never heard of this game. Was never big on Dota or HON. After WarOne tried to con a few of us into Company of Heroes, other RTS games jus arent my glass of wine so to speak. Even Dawn of War is a bit too different for me.

Besides the SC2 sweat picking up again and alot of us are rolling with it till a new toy comes out *cough cough* Battlefield 3. We have a cousin that plays HoN he might like LoL. Oh and, SC2 has its own Dota now =D
Title: Re: Trini Players in LoL?
Post by: haterforever on March 01, 2011, 11:56:03 AM
less stress meaning easier but not too easy. Its easy to play but hard to master. And you cud be the best if your team sucks you will still lose. There is still competition but not on the level of sc2.

Im not playing ranked matches yet as i'm not at that level yet so I cant go into details of the competitiveness.

I was going to buy HON but I think DOTA 2 is coming out this year so I'll wait a bit

I play LoL.
IGN: Pandx Level 22 summoner atm.

@ The DotA and HoN comparisons: LoL is a bit more fast paced than DotA, I've never played hon so can't comment on that.

Ranked games are insanely competitive, I've played a couple on a friend's account before, Ventrilo/skype/teamspeak are simply mandatory if you intend to do well there, VERY few people enter ranked games in the Solo queue (i.e regular matchmaking with no prior organization or coordination if no one knew). But back to the point, in terms of overall competitiveness, League of Legends has it all, but again I've never played HoN so I can't draw any comparisons to that, but the game is really good I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't looking for "just another RTS".

The Development team is also pretty active and are always working behind the scenes to bring as much balance and content to the game as they can. Another thing is that every single member of your team is equally important at every single point in a match, if you have a leaver, 98% of the time you WILL lose, no matter how good you are. Their matchmaking system has also been tweaked to negate the "carry/feeder" effect.

Been a long time since i came on these forums, wonder if anyone remembers me :)

I've added you guys.

Hater you were right. Gave the game a third spin over the carnival and it has improved leaps and bounds from my last stint.

Absolutely phenomenal.

One major problem though....I am getting atrocious latency and delay issues.

Averaging 300ms to 900ms in game.

If that wasn't bad enough.....the character delay is 2 - 6 seconds. Marry that with regular disconnects and the game is rendered unplayable.

Had Crix play a game with me online today and his was running smooth as silk (he's in the states though)

How does it run for you guys?

Anybody else on flow experiencing similar problems? (Note, all other games are working fine with decent latency, sub 200ms....crysis 2, battlefield, etc...only LoL is giving this stress)

I've read tons of complaints on the League of Legends forums about it but I still suspect the problem is connection related.

How does the game run on blink broadband?

Title: Re: Trini Players in LoL?
Post by: haterforever on March 10, 2011, 08:10:55 AM
I find flow on a whole messing up these days at least by me. Every few hours I have to reset the modem because it goes from the 5 lights to only two lights blinking.

When I started back last month my ping was always less than 100.

All of a sudden it started  hitting 300-900, what you are getting.

I don't know if it is flow or the game because other trini players don't even complain of bad pings but  many other players do.

What I do?

Right after the game loading screen (where you see the high pings) finishes and you enter the game where all the players are standing in a circle:
       1.  unplug the network cable from your pc( or disable wifi, I never played over wifi though)

       2. Wait till the screen says 'you have been disconnected, would you like to reconnect?'' ( this screen will come up like after 25 seconds)

      3. Replug the network cable (or re-enable wifi)

      4. Wait a few seconds and click reconnect.

When done in this order and ensuring that the disconnect screen comes up before replugging the network cable, my ping is back to normal 100%.

I don't understand the tech behind it but it always work for me so you can try it.

and no, I did not think up this by myself, I got it off a Trini LOL group made by trinigamers members.

See if it works.

I'm averaging about 150ms, on Blink.

I have a Flow modem in my apartment building up UWI and this happened to me ALOT for a year or so. Called in and had a technician come check the line etc etc. You need to change the modem, thats wat i did and never had the modem auto restart on me since

well what do you know, that crazy procedure actually worked.

yanked out the cable at the start of the game...reconnected and boom. Played as smooth as anya's bottom.

+1 to you sir.

^ Are you NGW by chance? ppl changed their Display names and idk who anyone is except for those who haven't.

let me know when you want to take a sweat tho, cause of the matchmaking system, a lv 6 and a lvl 25 can't pair up for a normal game, a tweak that was made to prevent the "feeder/carry" thing, which is why i made a lvl 1 account incase. the ign for that one is TriniSTYLE if interested.

hmm, that makes sense....I was wondering how they were going to handle pairing summoners with different levels and access to different spells / runes.

in game name is TriniWyatt

I'll add the other account but hopefully I'll level up to 25 soon enough lol

yeah, I only use TriniWyatt on League of Legends though and my son uses TriniXjin

you can add him too

They just changed the free heroes so I bought Master Yi and been practicing with the bladed warrior. He's pretty decent. Just went 21/6/3 with him. pwnage galore. (of course, its against noobs but still...was fun)

Saving up for Garen.

What heroes you got?

Master yi is a boss. critical strike % galore.

I got karthus, kassadin, nunu, tristana, ashe, and a couple more.

saving up to buy kennen. why?

cause he's a flippin ninja!

btw, no more probs with lag. 124 ping constant for last few days.

Saving up for that imba Nocturne

nice selection there.

true dat at IP being hard to come by, especially when you end up with a bunch of noobs on your team lol.

I had one guy on level 12 without a boots. When asked about it...he said boots were a waste of money. madness yes. Needless to say he sold guns to the indians and we got a royal cut ass.

Running with Master Yi and Garen (earned enough in game coin to buy him at last)

Looking to spend some cheddar on Tyrndamere the barbarian next.

And yeah...been hearing from everyone that Nocturne is a serious nightmare on the field.

Hahaha, ent.

Not to mention a truckload of games on steam that I PAID for and still haven't played yet.

Says a lot for League of Legends yes.

Right now it taking a back seat to Crysis 2 though.

Dunno what is causing your connection probs. Never experienced that. Its a small game, probably a gig in size so I never really bother to uninstall it.

There is an issue with lag on FLOW connections but thankfully there is a work around posted in this thread that restores latency and ping times to normalcy.

They had me at new map

Quote
Summoners!

Many of you may have been wondering out loud just what we have in store for the future. Today we are pleased to give you your first look at League of Legends: Dominion, the largest game update in the history of League of Legends. This update will feature not only a brand new map, but also an entirely new game mode showcasing innovative gameplay never before attempted in the MOBA genre.

For quite some time, all of you have been clamoring for new battlefields upon which to test your skills against other summoners in League of Legends. We're pleased to announce that we've heard you, and that for over a year our Design Team has been working tirelessly to craft Dominion into a truly new and groundbreaking experience.

On the Crystal Scar players will battle for control of five capture points, holding them to damage their enemies' nexus. The game ends when one team had seized control long enough to drain the opposing team's nexus down to zero. Battles last around 20 minutes, and focus on high-intensity, player-versus-player combat. If you've been looking for a fast-paced, high-intensity competitive gaming experience, this is what you've been waiting for.

We're taking Dominion on the road during convention season this year, allowing you to get your hands on the new game mode at both Gamescom in Cologne, Germany and PAX Prime in Seattle, Washington! Stay tuned for more details as we draw closer to these exciting events.

To find out more about this upcoming game mode and new Field of Justice, as well as get your first look at what Dominion will be like in action,  visit the official Dominion Website.

Update: Some of you have expressed interest in when Dominion will be available worldwide, and we wanted to respond to that directly. While we take a “when it’s ready” approach to our feature releases, you will be able to play Dominion in a nearly complete state at GamesCom (August 17-21) in Europe and at PAX Prime (August 26-28) in North America.

League of Legends: Dominion will make it into your daily play schedule shortly after PAX.

Keep an eye out on our website over the month of August for more information, video documentaries, trailers, live streams and gameplay previews.

I rarely get issues with either Blink(2mbps) or Flow(5mbps). I did not have to open any ports on either ISP either.

I do believe i have my desktop set as the DMZ Host on my Blink at home as it runs through a wireless router but it didn't give any issues by my cousin when we played together.

This usually eliminates the lag

I can attest to Haterforever's method.

It works. Been using it and advocating the method for months (usually to the disbelief of other gamers, lol).

They fixed it with a patch some time ago.....but then the patch broke other parts of the game, so they reverted to the original code that had this stupid lag inducing bug.

Really a pain in the ass. The game is great.....but this issue is really unacceptable.

I'll drop it like a hot potato for Dota 2 for that reason alone, if nothing else.
Title: Re: Offical GATT League of Legends Thread
Post by: Xpider_G on August 24, 2011, 07:23:34 PM
The only thing I seeing about Haterforever's method is a renewing of the DHCP info on the NIC. so that lends the question, what else do you do on the net between sessions? Is it a max throughput issue?
Title: Re: Offical GATT League of Legends Thread
Post by: TriniXaeno on August 24, 2011, 07:27:07 PM
I did a ton of research on this topic before (can't remember where I put that info) but it isn't to do with throughput or latency at all.

There is some particular buffer setting that is common with some cable internet providers that causes the issue.

Let me dig and see if I can find it.

*edit*

Found it, http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/ (http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/)

That site does a detailed test on your connection. It will highlight the areas that could be responsible for the odd LoL behavior.

so since my microwave of a laptop cant run either HoN or DOTA 2 on anything more thant 800*640 (FML), i've decided to give LoL another go just to keep myself occupied in my spare time when at school during the week. So i'll be trying it out a lil more during within the next few days to see how it runs. Since i actually got to play it this time around, i find it quite interesting.

Anyone still actively playing?

Well it seems either my housemates are eating bandwidth like a fat kid on cake or Flow connections for this game are horrible in the st. augustine area =/

Some EPIC lag in the tutorial as i was trying to play it

Nah Flow in general gives trouble in LOL. As soon as the game starts restart your modem, it will ask you to reconnect, say yes and you will be fine after that. If you sharing a connection with roomies as you said then i not sure how you getting away with that.

For the most, all they do is stream. Have a 25mb connection up here. I see that they announced that they were gettin lag issues in game so maybe thats why. When i tried a game last week it wasnt lagging at all so i guess thats why

LoL has well documented latency issues in this very thread.

Be sure to try the prescribed "work around" and see if it works for you.

No need to restart the modem, you can simply unplug your network connection from your PC or Laptop (pull the network cable out or disable your wireless) and wait for the game to timeout/disconnect and then reconnect your network connection and resume the game.

This usually reduces the latency situation by half. (From 4 bars down to 2 bars) As crazy as it sounds.

The funny thing is i don't get that problem when i am on Blink :S

It only applies to cable modems.

Blink uses ADSL which will not be affected.

LoL developers can fix it on their end. They had patched the problem away in the past. Really not sure why it hasn't been eliminated completely at this stage. It has been going on for almost a year.

It's worth it if you have a friends(or a team) to play with...Other than that, there are always those people on the internet who are hellbent on frustrating others.

There is also Dominion in there, which might not appeal to the purist of the MOBA genre, but it's a fun ~20 min game of pure action.

supposed to be like capture the flag right? I have some friends to play with, its just to get it to run properly.. u know on the lowest settings at the lowest rez..  :ko:

and yes, i've come to the most solid conclusion that MOBA games (the ones played) are the internet's cesspit for trolls. I've played quite a few games online, WoW being one of them, and i have never come across the breed of gamers that exist in HoN and DOTA 2  :shakehead:

At least when i played a vs ai map in LoL, when i said i was a noob they were nice about it and lent some adivce. Hard to find that kinda spirit in gamers these days, and we have an issue with that here on the local scene. c'est la vie

yeah, I actually said earlier in this very thread that the minute Dota 2 came out I would jump ship from LoL if only for all the issues with their network code.

Really really shouldn't have to put up with such trite in the year 2012 to get your game on.

And yuh damn right about the stink attitudes on the moba scene.

Not sure what it is about these games that attracts or brings out the worst in people, lol

The word "carry" brings with it an inflated sense of importance lol. Once you've carried that one time, it becomes like crack...for some people anyway lol.

Most other games i know either rely on teamwork or becomes hilarious, this just gets..."serious" -_-'

lol @ carry as an addictive drug. You might be on to something there.

however, I often see non carries being severely ill mannered as well
