Title: Been a while...but still
Post by: shivadee on June 24, 2011, 05:41:58 PM
Hey folks...been a ...........LONG time regarding posts on this section of the forum.

Some things I have learned at my brief time (so far) at Activision
1. An idea is not a design.
2. a STORY is not a design

these are parts of a design. Design involves these 2 practices and application of them. In other words, following through with the idea and story.

Spoke to our lead designer the other day and he mentioned something. Design can come in different forms;

code, art, level, script, vfx, lighting, animation, storyboarding, structural and even production. Design is a relative term and does not only apply to "games".

Get down into the nitty gritty. Dont just look at "that guy's AI is too lame" - that is a gamers pov, not a designers. Designers look at their structure, their reaction and then apply it to their interaction with the environment. small 2 cents for today :)
