Title: Legend of Zelda: Past, Present, and Years to come
Post by: TriniLink on August 30, 2011, 06:33:31 PM
Hiya Guildmates, Here's the new art for the Skyward sword due the 20th of November.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/119/1191301p1.html (http://wii.ign.com/articles/119/1191301p1.html)

Shiny is right.

Now for the definitive look at the artwork, i spy with my eyes the icons from the Dual Zeldas from GBA/GBC. The icons from Oracle of Ages harp warp tunes.   :happy0203:

Let's see if you can see something that i don't see... ;)

A short poem I wrote on Facebook months back, finally found and archived :happy0203:

I'll add on verses when the poem vibes kick in sometime. (Or when i play Skyward sword and comment on the history in poetic terms)

*ahem*

May your adventures in Legend continue to grow,
As the land of Hyrule has over the years know,
blesses you as protector for evil to overthrow,
someday we see the Sage to owl transformation he'd undergo
before he was the guide to one young Link long time ago...
(We can only hope.... ;) )

Happy 25th Birthday Legend of Zelda
All the best for the next one and the ones after that! :yay: :wav:

Been meaning to ask this question, so here goes..

What's your Adventure game fix between Zelda releases?

Mine is Revisiting Secret of Mana (SNES), The Minnish cap and the Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and a few Online MMO's like Maplestory and DragonNest.

As Ren from Ren and Stimpy would say: GET WID IT MANNNNN!!!! :awesome:

Honestly, go experience it before the rush of Skyward sword kicks in, it's not to be missed or regretted.

My experience was that i was a gaming wizz in my younger days, then some guy offered me i couldn't beat this game in 2 weeks.
He was right and i lost the bet (Took me 2 months to beat it then another 2 to beat it perfect). :ko:

Top tier FPS not top tier RPG, case in point; Zelda Series and Secret of Mana. (One game i adore for gameplay story and music)
I can bet no one could beat Donkey Kong Country Returns Wii perfect in one week.
(Heh, not even I am that brave to beat that game in a week. *Shudders* :ko: and i mean without the computer playing the stages for you.)

You know that you're playing too much Zelda when you...

http://www.northcastle.co.uk/guild/humour/ztoomuch.html

(Some of these are pretty demented, i'll think up a few of my own but make it more relevant)

1) When someone or yourself goes around the house seeking something and you find it, you hold it over your head and sing or whistle the Zelda jingle.

2) When you do yardwork and cut the weeds/grass, you half expect a rupee to pop out of the spot you cleared.

3) When you like to sneek up on relatives/Girlfriend/Boyfriend/children while singing the same Zelda jingle and scare the living daylights out of them with the last part of the Jingle. ( DA DA DA DAAAAAAA!!!!!) >:-D
Feel free to reply with your Zelda musings too  :awesome:

LOL @ 'Gayometer'.  If it was anybody else, I woulda cuss them six ways to Sunday.  :laughing7:

...but yeah, Ocarina Of Time is one one of my all time favourites, even better than MGS (in my opinion of course).
I even got the Master Quest Edition on Gamecube (that I haven't played, but I need to).

It's one of those games that just takes me back, and puts a big kiddie grin on my face whenever I play it.

Not atal.

Probably beat that game bout 5 times @ this point. It just so brilliant.
And with d Hi-Res pack it makes it even better. A true classic.
Nintendo needs to remake that game, dont change anything, juss take it, put modern day graphics and release it. Which is basically what they did with it on d DS.

But i want it for d big screen. Here's to hoping skyward sword lives up to the challenge.

A little quote from the article to intrigue ppl on the fence to read the full thing:

"Ask people which is their favourite Zelda game, and you'll almost always get the same answer. There will always be the odd Wind Waker or Majora's Mask maverick in there, but the overwhelming majority will tell you that it's Ocarina of Time. It doesn't matter whether they're 16 or 35. Ocarina of Time's shadow looms so large over every later Zelda game that they've had to work extremely hard to distinguish themselves; Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks did it with that cartoonish art style, where Twilight Princess made a slightly less confident foray into novelty with its wolfish Link.

After this year, though, there's a serious chance that answer is going to change. I've spent enough time with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword now to realise that this may very well be the best Zelda game ever made."

---

Drools:

"It's no exaggeration to say that Skyward Sword has one of the best combat systems in modern gaming – and once again, unlike so many motion control games, it really requires skill."

Just finished my first Hr with skyward sword.

Game is EPIC!

Combat system is brilliant. Yuh ever fighting 1 spider and loss 8 hearts, drink ah bottle of potion and loss d rest?
Could be to do with the fact that the demo has no tutorials, and i figuring out d combat system on d fly.
I wont spoil how to easily take down a spider in 2 moves, ill leave that for you guys to figure out. (sorry dare2badnaiel already spoil it for u lol).

But the combat system is truely brilliant, truely engaging, truely sensible, you need to know what you're doing in this game, you cant jus go shake the wiimote and expect to walk out alive.

@ 2560 * 1600 with 16x AF, the game really looks amazing.

More testing tomorrow!

Unfortunately, this one can't be patched.  You actually need to get a fixed version of the game itself, i.e. a new game disc.

Not a problem now that we know.

IMO if you havent played ocarina of time, you havent experiend zelda at its best.
But that game is OLD!!!!! now, so to go play it, im sure it will feel dated. Having said that, im 3/4 way through skyward sword, and i muss say, thus far, its nipping at ocarina's crown.

Skyward sword is the first game in the zelda storyline, so its a prequel, but having played ocarina, you appreciate the original history a hell of alot more. So you wont get the true story of zelda until you played ocarina.

Id highly recommend you play both.
Ocarina then Skyward Sword.

If you really want a challenge for a first Zelda game, Start with Link to the past for the SNES, it gives you a good challenge and sets you up for the story aspect very well. It's how i started the Series, and I recommend you start there too. (Just don't cuss when you fight Aganinm ok?)

If you prefer the 3D Zelda first, start with OoT.

They chose it as their best, is mine too out of the series.  (100)
http://nintendopower.com/images/NP277_LTTP.jpg

Up for debate huh? well consider this.
Made from the mind of S. Myamoto, (No Capcom/2nd co producer)

The awesomeness of Koji Kondo music (which has been remastered from these tunes in the sequels afterward)

The first idea of light/dark world gameplay in the series.

Mind bending puzzles that work better in 2D than 3D( bet you ketch ya tail trying to figure out ice dungeon the first time eh, eh?) :ko:

As the Article said, involving story and characters being more lively.

Actual exploration! Could play brave and actually sequence break and really explore nearly all the map freely, also 2 worlds to warp between to get secrets.

Where else you learn the hard way to go buy HFC (Hyrule fried Chicken) instead of trying to make your own hm? and on both worlds? :happy0203: :ko:

For the real explorer/adventurer type, no assistant to hold your hand while questing (No Navi and No Fi) Figure things out on your own, like the Sign man's secret *Wink Wink*

These and more are my arguments for Link to the past being my best Zelda.

Oh yea, and it's the first time you get to interact with the most coveted prize in the series ( No you perverts, not Princess Zelda, i mean the Triforce) *Whadap cocoyea!*

Some nice Zelda info here (present info pertaining to thread title)

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/gaming/nintendo-wii-u-sales-up-685-as-zelda-wind-waker-hd-hits-shelves-8878783.html

"Nintendo has not been having an easy time of it so far this year but the latest reports from the UK may offer some comfort, with sales of the Wii U jumping 685 per cent in the last week.

The reports (via gaming site MCV) suggest that the boost is due to the release of the HD remake of Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.

The title was originally released for the GameCube more than a decade ago but its cel-shaded art-style has proven to have enduring appeal, with 'Wind Waker HD' entering the all-format gaming charts at the number 4 spot this week.

"We have long believed that software sells hardware and it's great to see that reaffirmed this week with an uplift of Wii U hardware sales to coincide with the launch of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD," said James Honeywell , Nintendo’s head of consumer marketing in the UK.

This has long been Nintendo’s message regarding poor sales of the Wii U. Although the eight-generation console shifted just 160,000 units between April and June this year (leading to Asda, the UK’s second largest retailer, removing the hardware from stores) this can be blamed, at least partly, on a dearth of titles utilising the company’s beloved franchises.

Nintendo’s familiar characters certainly still have the power to attract gamers, as the recent global launch of the latest games in the Pokémon franchise shows: Pokémon X & Y (the first titles in the series to be rendered in full 3D) entered the UK charts in third and fourth place this week, whilst in Japan they games have sold out after pre-orders of 1.26 million.

The release of X & Y also coincides with the launch of the 2DS: Nintendo’s surprising decision to create an entry-level handheld gaming device, stripping the 3DS of both its 3D capacity and its hinge.

Although the ‘slice of cake’ form factor took many by surprise, the 2DS might prove to be a winner with younger generations. The 3D technology on the 3DS never wowed critics and Nintendo even had to warn gamers under seven not to use the console because of it.

By dropping the 3D tech, the breakable hinge, the price of the console, and then adding the latest Pokémon titles into the mix the 2DS has become a very attractive package, and will likely experience a similar spike in sales ahead of Christmas.

However, it should be remembered that these estimations are relative, and whilst a 685 per cent sales bump is an appealing figure, Nintendo has yet to release details of exactly how many consoles are being sold."

I find it criminal for Nintendo to show off that new Zelda until they had more to show.

At least a little smigden of gameplay self.   *steups*

...or at least giwwe a ballpark release timeframe nah.

At least I can accumulate da WiiU morney by that time.  :happy0203:

Well we know it coming out 2015 :laughing7:

I think it's pretty safe to say it coming out after e3 2015, where we will get that gameplay u desire.

And I think it will release holiday 2015. Capitalize on those Christmas sales.

I could be wrong, but since almost everything shown is 2015, I think they go stagger it throughout the year, ending with Zelda. (which will require the most time to polish off)

Ever wonder with his quip he was secretly letting us know you can choose diffrent genders at the start of the game? The translation between languages are most times this vague... hmmm...
Same as when Siggy wanted Samus in Metroid Prime to have the sight of a housefly, which in the end meant for her to have different sight or in this case "visors"
It's a wait and see I guess, it's the same as people finding out the fate of the First Sub Zero of MK1....

The New Zelda Might Not Have The Puzzles You Expect

Quote
Are you hoping for something different from the new Zelda, which blew everyone away when it was announced earlier this week during Nintendo's E3 show?

Series producer Eiji Aonuma has promised that this one will shake things up, with an open-world focus that calls back to the days of Zelda on the NES. He's also talked a lot about ditching traditions and playing with the formulas we've grown to expect from Zelda games. This new one is no exception.

spoke to Aonuma yesterday at E3 here in Los Angeles, and though he mostly wanted to talk about Hyrule Warriors, I couldn't help but slip in a couple of other questions. And he revealed something that I found totally fascinating: the next Zelda game might ditch the idea of puzzles as we know them today.....

Maybe in 10 years time, Nintendo might actually have the hardware to run games that look like that.

Spoiler (hover to show)

Well when you think about the history of LOZ: Ocarina of time, it was originally pitched to play like Skyrim 1st person view. Makes you think though, if Nintendo would have embraced Unreal software from the start for it's IPs... hmmm...
