Title: Streaming guide !
Post by: Shinsoo on December 09, 2015, 04:24:58 PM
Essentially to stream you need 3 important things. Without any of these u are dead in the water.

1. A decent gaming rig that can run your game and render the stream simultaneously. Most people believe they have a good pc that runs most games on high well thats until they have to stream the game on high and they realize just how weak their gfx card can be .

2. Software . U need good stream softwares there are various ones . I advise OBS open broadcasting software. Xsplit is also good. the rest tend to be complicated with little pay off. xsplit has a small cost but it should still have a free version.

3. A great connection. U could have 200 dollar premium software and a 20k gaming pc but if ur internet cant handle it you are donezo . To stream HD u need roughly 2mb upload. Which some of u are saying ok ya i have that... u need that seperate from the bandwidth the game uses otherwise ur stream will be fine but u will lag ur lass off. 480p can be accomplished with about 1 mb give or take a .5 mb depending on ur fps.

Here are some guides to get u started .

Feel free to look up some youtube guides as well . OBS has a great estimator to tell you WHAT U REQUIRE AND IF U CAN DO IT. THIS WILL SAVE U HOURS OF TESTS. input ur specs and see what u need to change to be able to stream.

https://obsproject.com/estimator

But my basic guide is
Create twitch account
Download OBS
Read/watch OBS guides
Customize your settings.
Customize your game.
Test speakers and mic .
Test visual stuff and stream.
Test stream with game running

The last thing I want to say is learning how to stream can be a little discouraging however once u understand it , its fairly simple to do when ur ready to do it. at least on a average level. I urge u do not sit and attempt to stream for the first time unless u have about an hour to orient yourself with it.
Otherwise everyone will know you are into japanese tentacles and cat videos .

Which brings me to my other point. Clean your browsing history and desktop before u stream. No matter how careful u think u are , viewers will see stuff u may not be comfortable with em seeing. Remember streaming means letting everyone see your PERSONAL computer. meaning who ur talking to on facebook and who u have spoken to recently on skype . So make sure u clean your ish up.

Thats it for now .

Ok, so based on MY browsing history.....streaming is out for me at the moment.   :laughing7:

Great guide though.  I think you may have actually peaked my interest a little bit.

Unfortunately our ping to the closest twitch server is really bad atm for fast motion or fps games, dunno what we can do to fix that or at least ease it a little. Maybe a Caribbean Twitch server  :sassy:

Twitch florida servers should be fine. Additionally there are some options u can use to fix that . Um its hard to give the answer off hand. But essentially delay your stream. And there should be some other options that should help. What u can also do is use wtfast for your game so your game doesnt affect your stream ping as much. You can also attempt to lower your general ping . Proxying may be an option as well.

I would suspect frame drops(by your gfx/cpu and packet loss. I doubt ping is your immediate issue. Or who knows, can you tell me your ping to twitch florida , chicago and canadian servers ?
A bit rusty ,im sure there is another answer as well , will have to open obs to see. But lowering ur bitrate may help or render speed.
