Title: GATT RSS News Feeds and how to make 'em work!!
Post by: TriniXaeno on May 18, 2005, 12:22:26 AM
One of the coolest features of GATT 9.0 is RSS support.

RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication and basically means you can pipe the content of the GATT site to any external source you like.

Sounds pretty technical but in reality, it is DOG EASY.

The best and most practical use I've found for this feature, is being able to read all the posts made on the site in a neat little application called SharpReader.

SharpReader is an RSS Aggregator or News Reader. Think of it as MSN Messenger for websites. It sits there in your system tray, minding it's own business, but when a new message is posted on gatt, it pops up, msn style in your system tray, notifying you of the post. Pretty damn sweet.

You don't miss a beat and it saves you countless clicks to get to the site and respond on your favourite topics.

The messages show up as plain text previews, but one click on the subject and you get the full html graphical glory. This is stuff to write home about. I kid you not.

Our RSS url is as follows:

http://www.carigamers.com/cms/forums/index.php?type=rss;action=.xml;limit=100

You can grab SharpReader here: (yes it is free)

http://www.sharpreader.net/ (http://www.sharpreader.net/)

Once you have installed sharpreader, just copy and paste our RSS url into SharpReader, subscribe to it and away you go.

Feel free to try it out in other programs that support RSS. (Firefox, NewsGator, etc...)

Also consider FeedReader: (An Opensource alternative)

http://www.feedreader.com/ (http://www.feedreader.com/)

and RSS Owl: (Another Opensource alternative)

http://www.rssowl.org/ (http://www.rssowl.org/)

and Feed Demon (Arguably the best Windows RSS Feed Reader)

last but not least, RSS Popper. A free plug in for Microsoft Outlook for RSS Feeds

But most of all.....suhuweat!!!!!!!!!!

Just updated to Microsoft Outlook 2007 and its "built in" newsreader is fast and functional. Actually shows you who made the post (something my previous RSS popper lacked)

Now I get my hotmail, gatt mail and rss feeds all in the same place. One stop shop.

Pretty sweet. Recommended.

Summoning a necro behemoth here to make this post.

Those of you with smartphones using the slick news reading app Flipboard, can add GATT to your subscriptions with this link:
