I love it! Utterly gorgeous. Actually designing a tattoo right now (hah when I get free time) using the Mongolian alphabet. Fantastic  - almost tribally because I am putting in my own.. thing.

Wanna try new things but just too bogged with my homework (oh for godsakes!)

Anime 101 / art based employment in tdad
« on: October 20, 2004, 12:22:22 AM »
As we all know the art field in Trinidad is a disgrace. You must go away to get proper/good training. Here...hah... well there's UWI and John D. Woo big deal. Either you have to be uber talented (yet still need training) and or have a nice fat bank account.

Game design. Dear God go to Savannah College. Please. There are other great schools as well. I believe in education primarily.

Graphic design company? Hm. I am displeased with what's coming out of the million and 2 companies locally. Boring. Graphic artists are a dime a dozen now. My advice is toget into something you honestly love and the money will come. Fast money is one thing but quality is a whole other ball game.

The fabulous talent we have is being put to waste - no wonder they must get out. Even after a degree you're definitely not guaranteed a job here.
1. They won't pay
2. They will use your talented punkass
3. They have no real resources

There's no infrastructure, barely any consideration given for artists of any kind - especially in an advanced computer design field.
So there you go. You're better off outside unless you have the resources to efficiently run a business here, you're screwed.

Blah okay rant over.

Gah @ Tech TV now. :-/ Don't quite understand what is going on - I turned it
on the other day and felt twilight zoneish. Apparently sub-rock habitation
does not agree with this newy G4 thingy.

Young or not if its suppose to be a local station it should play all forms of local muci that includes ROCK!!!! i mean come on i still have to see that Incert Coin video and Orange Sky video give us rockers some quality time also

Do these bands even have music videos? I doubt you even hear these bands on 95 the rock, so what are you arguing?

uhm yes they do have songs released on the radio.

so I checked it out this morning after a very long time. and it's gotten a lot better. Yay! Go them! "Alone" - Orange Sky was on. Muahahaha! Of course the noted presence of Machel songs monopolising a bit of the programming is evident. *snicker* I would do the same though. Yay again.

Image image image. Yeh they need to revamp and quickly.

On a lighter note, I've been looking at Gayelle and it's much much better. Very good fun clean entertainment so far. It's a whole other thing, but it's cool. This evening we were looking at hours of Errol Fabien and Wendell talking copious amounts of crap live on air and in between showing Carnival clips. Just now there was Extempo.

It goes to show that, despite being new and having selective programming, they're still doing very well. The callers are all praising them on such a good job. In this case we're definitely giving them a chance and it seems a bright future for this station. I also saw the press kit and the marketing material is bloody fantastic. Let's hope Synergy improves because it could be really good.

Okay so you want soca alone. This however is not the point of Synergy.

http://www.guardian.co.tt/archives/2004-01.../editorial.html

Please have a good read. I quote :

"With the pending announcement of Synergy, another local, entertainment- oriented channel from Machel Montano’s camp...Synergy is influenced by the MTV style, with plans for regular music videos and entertainment news reporting"

So what exactly was Beyoncé and Sean Paul doing on there this morning?  Clearly this can't be soca unless I've been living under a rock. This makes your hypothesis fallacious and due for a review.

Of course, you can define soca for me just to get it clear in our heads what we're dealing with. Either way Sean Paul definitely isn't local.

Aren't we all for promoting local artistes? Sure! I have no problem with that once it's done well. As you know, image is everything.

Using your dictionary definition of synergy am I to believe that this "synergism the potential ability of individual organizations or groups to be more successful or productive as a result of a merger" means that there should not be any other music at all on this channel (which hasn't been done yet)?

Dub isn't local either! It's regional perhaps, just like rap, rock and other genres mentioned. What gives? It isn't soca. Have you been looking at this channel or just flipping through?

As you said you won't/rarely find our local stuff on their cable. Our local music is very rare as you said, therefore, Synergy is the ideal arena.  No? Soooo what's the problem? Is it that you just want soca because you  have a preference and are one-tracked?

Also what's this about? What relevance does this have in this post?
"soca is our culture. fly up to america and go into a music store and ask for a destra CD. you will most likely not find it. or even most countries outside the caribbean. you may find the songs in those countries but they still came from sweet T&T "

You have yet to define culture. Still beating around the bush. You don't know this for fact. They're local - and...?  What is your point? Lol come better!

but you really have to give them a chance
they only just started
they dont have the abundance of videos quite yet
like when TTT had now start sign on sign off
news alone
then later on they brought out shows to air
it will take time for synergy to get on its feet
but when it does it will be big

as i said before you can watch rap and rock on mtv and bet
soca is our culture
rock and rap are not
you cant find soca in countries like china and all the far east
even most countries in europe africa and south america
but you can find other types of music
so i say yes synergy is more for soca specifically
instead of local talent

lol what nonsense is this?

1.  you can't launch a whole channel without sufficient videos. it makes for a terrible impression and is continuing along this sad narrow path so far.

2. who said soca is our culture? what IS our culture? do you even know? oh my god. do some research before making fallacious statements.

3. as sideswipe said... we've got different genres of music here too - ding ding - earth to mangoseed.

4. yes you can find soca elsewhere because it has been exported - much the same as how north american music has been imported. what about pan? that's pretty big in asia. so what gives?

5. you say Synergy is for soca specifically? lol who died and made you Synergy spokesperson? So far all you've typed is your personal and rather narrowminded view. BS!

6. Do you even know what synergy means? Truly - if you did then maybe you'll get what we're trying to say.

PS - Outlaw... that picture posting crap is irritating me :) Please post something of worth. Don't bother replying to this as will be irrelevant in this thread.

err what does the fridge have to do with anything? if i see it again i'm deleting it eh!
anyways...indeed...  I still would give them a chance to settle down perhaps? Benefit of the doubt is always necessary but not for long again. I mean TTT has never changed Dateline music. Is this an indicator of the direction in which it will go? Heavens let's hope not. I hate to make comparisons like this but come on - TV 6 came on the scene much later and has vastly improved. What's the cause for this? I'm sure I can probably find out. I have suspected it's possibly a funding issue.

lol these are Trinis? Am so amazed... hence why I was wondering what the deal was. I still don't.

Mangoseed : the Synergy channel made some sort of announcement that it was only for soca? There i thought it was "local". Even in the event that it is - what they are showing can't even be classed as such. What is this crap? Who are these people? Local talent encompasses almost every genre there is... so... huh? I don't think I've even seen this year's soca on yet. I tried again to look at it for the sake of this thread but dear Lord...nothing.

I don't know. They obviously need to settle down and get some videos. As I said there's a lot more diversity as concerns local music. Sky, assorted rock and rap groups and the like.

QDizzle: I never said I watched Arts so that was an assumption. Lol.. everything for its people I suppose.

hm every time i tune in it's some utter crap - cheap ugly videos with songs that haven't even made close to a hit. maybe it's just me but so far i've only seen l ike one kind of music and i'm positive there's other genres of music videos to show. they're there. arts is now on 99 - thankfully they haven't wiped that out.

well done. finally someone else who uses illustrator! the logo does remind me of something... not buggers that much lol... but stuff i've seen before. however it is well executed and looks pretty good (despite the abundance of sunlight in my room totally messing up my monitor colour).

if you need other links/tools/whatever for PS/AI. lemme know.
