Microsoft Xbox / PSA: Play NES, SNES, GB and Genesis on XB1
« on: October 01, 2016, 04:37:52 PM »
Just in case you don't know, you could now play NES, SNES, GB, GBA, GBC, and Genesis roms on the Xbox One by firing up the Edge browser and going to http://nesbox.itch.io/x1

When you go to the page, wait a few seconds for the emu to load itself up, then you can start interacting with it. It uses OneDrive to access your roms, so upload them there and give the emu permissions to access your OneDrive when it asks.

I can confirm that Zelda, Link to the Past works, as well as Mario Kart, but haven't gotten around to trying anything else. The dev who created it (@nesboxcom on Twitter) has included save states and 2-player support, amongst other features.

Quick tip on using the save states, press RB+LB (emulated Start + Select), in that order, to initiate the emu save/load screen. You could bring up the save/load screen anytime while playing yuh game, but there only seems to be one save slot per rom, so use it wisely.

So if yuh see meh on Edge on meh XB1, yuh know is wha!

Came across this nice guide to using nesbox:

edit: corrected the Twitter handle to @nesboxcom and added link to guide

Handheld Gaming / Looking for a new android game
« on: April 20, 2016, 11:36:58 AM »
Now that I've dropped the Galaxy of HeroesHorrors addiction, I'm looking for something else to waste my time. I picked up Walking Dead No Man's Land, but am still unsure if I want to continue...so what's everyone playing these days? Free 2 Play only, please.

Surely there are some swgoh players amongst us...? With the upcoming guild feature later this month, how about we band together from now so that we can hit the ground running when it launches?

My ally list is 33/35 right now, but I can make room for some fellow Trinis. Hit me up if you want: 669-643-315 (slyCzar). I'm totally F2P, but have been at it on a regular since Oct., so I've got a few 7* (Lumi, Eeth, Phasma and Sid), a few 5* (QGJ, JC and Rey), and the balance of my top toons at 4* (FOTP, Barriss, Old Ben, Poe and Ahsoka), all minimum lvl 60, but mostly around 66-68 for my favs.

If you're interested in forming up a guild, leave your ally code in a reply and we'll take it from there.

PC Gaming / Microsoft, Nvidia leave PC Gaming Alliance
« on: February 24, 2011, 01:37:53 AM »

The PC Gaming Alliance turned three years old last week, and the occasion was marked by the departure of multiple founding members. According to a Big Download report, Microsoft and Nvidia have parted ways with the nonprofit organization established to promote PC gaming.

Nvidia confirmed its departure for GameSpot, but offered no explanation for the move. As of press time, neither Microsoft nor the PCGA had responded to GameSpot's request for confirmation, but the official PCGA site no longer lists the Windows maker on its membership page. Additionally, PCGA president Matt Ployhar hinted at the possibility of defections in a post last week on his blog for Intel, where he works in the visual computing software division. In his blog, Ployhar explained that the consortium was formed for two reasons: to provide a voice of leadership for PC gaming and to counter the notion that PC gaming is dying.

"A few members who joined primarily for the second reason are now comfortable in saying 'mission accomplished,' and may likely depart," Ployhar wrote. "However, a large majority of our members now want to continue moving towards exploring ways to provide better leadership to the PC Gaming Ecosystem at large and use the data we've accumulated to make informed decisions to help ship better games."

According to Big Download, Ployhar told the site that the departures won't impact the PCGA. In his blog post, Ployhar said the organization was entering a second phase in its life cycle and that he expects 2011 to see the group update its mission and goals.

With the departures of Microsoft and Nvidia, the PCGA's primary promoter members consist of Capcom, Sony, Epic Games, Intel, Dell, and Razer. The group also has a dozen additional contributing companies, including GameStop, the Entertainment Merchants Association, and AMD.

Kinda surprised to see nVidia take the walk, yet not really, seeing as they are shifting their attention to the mobile device arena.

Mobile Phones & Gadgets / Cross-platform communication apps
« on: January 29, 2011, 04:31:42 AM »
Just thought I'd mention an app or two that are on multiple platforms that folks should check out:

WhatsApp - excellent IM client that works on all major platforms (Android, BB, iOS, Symbian S60). Good replacement for SMS that uses your data plan. Integrates directly with your address book of phone numbers so it's really easy to add people to your list, just add their number to your address book. Think MSN Messenger meets SMS - http://www.whatsapp.com/

PingChat! is another good IM client, but this one uses the tried and true "buddy list", so you need to be added to other user's lists before they can chat with you. Nice if you only want to be seen online by folks that you choose to add to your list, rather than by everyone in your address book. Works with the 3 major platforms (Android, BB, iOS) - http://www.pingchat.com/

Dropping Flash was one thing, but now Java, too? Supposedly, Apple has started its trek towards a Java-free environment... http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20020338-260.html?tag=mncol;txt
Really? Ok Jobs, you do it, feed it to your zealots, and they will follow. *sigh*

Although that article preceeds the following, I can't help but wonder how much of it had to do with the Boonana trojan horse that infects OS X (and Windows) through Java applets:

Coincidence? hmmmm :P

PC Gaming / SiN Episodes: Emergence
« on: May 12, 2006, 01:10:35 AM »
The Source engine still lookin mighty fine...I'll take some screenshots in a bit...the intro has an interesting exchange of lines between Jessica and a security guard tho...

Guard: "...what is your destination?"
Jessica: "...the south corner of f%#k and you..."

muhahhahah :D

I'm lovin that chic already :)

Apart from the foul language, there was the rendering of quite possibly the raunchiest digital broad I've ever seen...Alexia I think was her name...a lil more again and this game would have to be labeled pr0n...

Feels so much like HL2...not that that's a bad thing mind you...and there's supposedly a dynamic difficulty thing built into the game, so if you start to move through too easily...the enemies start to use tactics and the alternate fire on their weapons, like the rail-gun like shot I tried to capture lower down...and man does it hurt!

Screenies as promised...

Now, I don't usually talk or get excited about demos...cos I hardly ever download them...but I'm sure to be grabbing this one when it's available in a few hours :)

Finally a Star Wars RTS that looks worthy of the Force....it's designed by Petroglyph...a bunch of old Westwood guys...aka the guiys that made Command & Conquer...and from the trailers on gamespot's site...it's looking to be shaping up nicely :)

Hey guys, can anyone point me in the direction of some inexpensive (US$300 or less) screen capture software for the Mac?

We need to put together some demos based on Mac OS X...basically it will show the user how to configure their settings etc. to use the product. So ideally, we need something that captures the mouse movements and clicks etc...not just static screenshots...we of course found stuff for the PC with ease...but Mac seems to be a whole other affair.

Any help would be appreciated.
