News / Mega Man Legends 3 is CANCELLED.
« on: July 18, 2011, 11:12:01 PM »
Way to kick your fans in their collective crotches, Capcom.

Quote
We tried.

We failed.

It’s over.

Mega Man Legends 3 Project Liason “Gregaman” has posted what is the last update to the Devroom on Capcom Unity, bearing the bad news:

“We’d like to thank you for your ongoing loyal support of Mega Man Legends 3. Today, however, we must regrettably announce the discontinuation of this project.”

The post goes on to detail the insight the Devroom allowed fans, and that the game did not meet the criteria required of different sectors of the company. With that, the fate of not only the game, but the Prototype Version have been sealed. Despite this, the North American Devroom and its forums will remain open indefinitely, giving fans at least one outlet to voice their despair.

“We can only express our deepest apologies to all of you who have lent us your unending support, including participation in the Mega Man Legends 3 Developer Room. On behalf of the entire Legends team, please accept our sincere apology for failing to meet the expectations of the fans.”

“We thank you all so much for your extended support of this title and this community, and we hope that you will continue to support the Mega Man franchise as well as other Capcom games.”

We believe it goes without saying that this remains to be seen.

An FAQ follows the official statement, outlining what happens and what can be done with user contributions, as well as clarifying that “The cancellation of the MML3 project is in no way related to Inafune-san leaving the company.” They also note that in spite of this and the cancellation of Mega Man Universe, “Mega Man is still an important franchise within Capcom’s portfolio and we will continue to pursue opportunities to create new titles in the series.”

Capcom, this is easily the STUPIDEST thing you could have done.

You've basically caused an uproar by many fans who are now more than willing to boycott your games because you've taken away something that they've been asking for for YEARS.

So, Capcom. What's your next move?

Choose wisely.

News / Macho Man Randy Savage is dead.
« on: May 20, 2011, 06:46:31 PM »
Quote
Wrestling legend "Macho Man" Randy Savage died Friday morning after a car accident in Tampa, Fla., TMZ.com reports. Savage's brother, Lanny Poffo, told the site that Savage suffered a heart attack behind the wheel and lost control of his vehicle. He was 58 years old.

Born Randall Mario Poffo, Savage had a phenomenal wrestling career that included 20 professional wrestling championships and seven world championships. He wrestled for World Championship Wrestling and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, but his legacy in the sport is defined by his work in World Wrestling Federation between 1985 and 1994.

Catch up on today's news

A renaissance man of sorts, Savage's career extended outside of the ring. He appeared on TV shows and movies like Spider-Man, and lent his voice to animated work like 2008's Bolt. He released a rap album in 2003 titled Be a Man. Perhaps his most famous work outside the wrestling was a string of commercials for Slim Jim, which featured the catchphrase, "Snap into a Slim Jim, oooooh yeah!"

On May 10, 2010, Savage married his longtime girlfriend Lynn Payne. He had no children.

He's now slamming into that big old Slim Jim in the sky. Rest in Peace, you loveable ham.

I have just received an official notice from Konami.
You know, the company that deals in the cards that I host tournaments on?

At first, when I took a look at the link, I was excited at what it would bring. When I clicked on that link, I just....couldn't believe what I saw.

I'll let you all know more on this as it develops, but click on the link below and give me your honest opinion on it. All I'm going to say on the matter is that this is REALLY going to surprise you.

News / Megatron shot to death.

....most ironic death ever.

DJ Megatron shot to death in New York City updated 3/27/2011 5:16:01 PM ET 2011-03-27T21:16:01

Share Print Font: + - NEW YORK — Urban radio and TV personality DJ Megatron, who built a career at hip-hop and R&B radio stations from Philadelphia to Boston and told viewers of a popular music TV show "What's Good," was shot to death early Sunday, according to his manager and police.

Police say the 32-year-old deejay, born Corey McGriff, was found dead with a gunshot wound to his chest. No arrests have been made.

His manager said friends and relatives had no idea why anyone might have attacked a deejay known for his upbeat, amiable attitude.

"He probably had one of the best personalities around, super-positive, happy all the time," Kirkland said.

Rising to the on-air ranks after starting as an intern, DJ Megatron began his career at New York's WKRS-FM, better known as Kiss FM, where deejays remembered him on the air and online Sunday.

He also worked at what was then Boston's Hot 97.7, or WBOT-FM, and at Philadelphia's The Beat, or WPHI-FM, according to a bio on his MySpace site.

Sometimes known as Mega or Mega McGriff, the deejay also appeared in movies including 2005's "State Property 2," starring Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash and rappers Beanie Sigel and N.O.R.E., formerly Noreaga.

A father of three, DJ Megatron also devoted time to charitable events on Staten Island, his manager said.

D.J. Optimus Prime could not be reached for comment, due to his sudden paranoia of being run over by a semi-truck.

.....but this was tragic, all the same. Rest in Peace, good sir. =(

« on: January 18, 2011, 07:30:00 PM »
Looking for some PS3 controllers? I've got some PS3 controllers.
They're practically mint, and they're going for $300.00 a piece.
Here's a picture:

Send me a PM or e-mail me at neweraoutlaw@hotmail.com if you're interested. We'll meet, test them out at the nearest game centre if you'd like, and they're as good as yours.

These controllers are basically new. They've only been used once, and they work just fine.
Give me a shout!

News / Creator of Mega Man leaves Capcom
« on: October 29, 2010, 03:42:48 PM »
Quote
This is not a hoax, a dream, or an imaginary story.

Keiji Inafune has resigned from his numerous positions within Capcom.

Kotaku has the report, straight from Inafune’s own blog, where he left a final post with a title which makes things clear: “Sayonara.”

“A manager’s work means evaluating your subordinates and speaking your dreams,” said the 23-year Capcom veteran. “Anyone who can do both of those can be a manager. I thought that when I came here, and I still think that now.”

Having begun his tenure at Capcom as a character designer for Street Fighter and Mega Man, the Head of R&D Management Group, Consumer Games R&D Division, and Contents Management Division says he has reached the top of the development structure within the company. “There’s nowhere higher for me to go,” he laments.

“I’m leaving Capcom with the intention of starting my life over” Inafune states, dismissing the notion of taking a break, instead looking to his next challenge. “People that really know me, can see where I’m coming from. I’m not a regular dude. It’s probably because I’m strange.”

Inafune, who will also leave behind his position as Chief Executive Officer of Capcom subsidiary Daletto, ends his post by saying he will do his best, and “thank you.”

Given Inafune’s recent comments regarding his work, this comes as slightly less of a shock (though it’s still a pretty big surprise, just the same).

So much for the theory that he was “just venting.” Now, one has to wonder what fate such projects as his Western development initiative and Mega Man Legends 3 may suffer, if any.

Want to make a difference in some children's lives this Christmas? Bring the magic of gaming to their doorstep and help:

WHAT IS IT?

BEAT BOREDOM WITH BOARD GAMES is a charity event, in which we, the gamers, are going to give back to society by donating Board Games to our nearest libraries. We want to encourage the kids to socialise with each other, and what better way to do so than with games?

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?

On December 4th, members of GATT will meet at the Port of Spain Children's Library at 11:00AM, and make a formal presentation to whoever's in charge. If you want to help, feel free to come with any board games you want to donate (make sure they're in good condition or new).

If you can't make it at that time, fear not. Just head on over to your nearest library (like Arima or Diego Martin) and donate your board games there! They'll appreciate it very much. (And, if you can, try snapping a photo of yourself making the donation, and post the photos on the forums here: http://www.carigamers.com/)

WHAT GAMES ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?:

We're not picky, but ANY age-appropriate board games would be most welcome. In particular, games such as MONOPOLY, SCRABBLE and CHESS would be beneficial.

WHICH LIBRARIES CAN I DONATE TO?

Any one. We're making the presentation at Port of Spain, but libraries in need of more games include MALONEY, DIEGO MARTIN, SAN JUAN, TUNAPUNA, CHAGUANAS, SANGRE GRANDE and ARIMA. To find out which library is nearest to you, visit NALIS at www.nalis.gov.tt or call 624-4466.

Remember, this is a charity, and we're doing it for the kids. It's up to us to make a difference in their lives, and by giving of ourselves, we'll be giving back to the community. And hey, you never know. The games we bring today may bring about the gamers of tomorrow.

For more information, e-mail at neweraoutlaw@hotmail.com, or call 738-4505.

Wacky World of Weird News! / Golfer blows Golf course to Kingdom Come....
« on: September 01, 2010, 09:47:49 PM »
...with nothing more than a swing from his golf club.

Quote
You can use a golf club for all kinds of non-golfy purposes -- walking stick, fishing rod, club, to name three. And now we can add to that list -- firestarter.

Over the weekend, a golfer's routine swing in the rough at the Shady Canyon Golf Course in Irvine, Calif., struck a rock. Not so different from the way you play, right? Only this time, the impact caused a spark, and the spark set off a blaze that eventually covered 25 acres, according to the Steven Buck, General Manager of Shady Canyon Golf Course, and required the efforts of 150 Orange County firefighters, writes the Associated Press.

Wow. And I felt bad the time I shanked a ball through the window of a house too close to the fairway. That was nothing compared to this!

The golfer's name is being withheld, which is probably for the best, and no charges are going to be filed. Fortunately, it all could have been much worse. As it was, the blaze required both helicopters and on-the-ground crews.

The conditions were ripe for a blaze, with dry brush from a recent heat wave just waiting for the right spark. Like, say, one caused by metal on rock.

And now, your turn. This is going to inspire a raft of bad Sportscenter-esque "When we say he set the course on fire, he really set the course on fire!" jokes. So let's get ahead of the curve. Best bad golf-and-fire-related pun in the comments wins a round of applause. Go!

Trading Grounds / PSP games for sale, going CHEAP.
« on: July 27, 2010, 10:46:25 PM »
I just recently bought a PSP, and I got two games as part of the deal. Sadly, I'm not a big fan of Naruto, and I already have a copy of MK Unchained. So, I'm selling them off relatively cheap.

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2 - $150 (Includes game and Naruto themed skin for PSP)
Mortal Kombat: Unchained - $200

NOTE: Both of these games are used, but still work well. There are a few scratches on the Naruto UMD, but it still works.

Drop me a PM if you're interested.

Just in case you haven't heard about it yet, an independent film was made featuring our favorite Blue Bomber.

Here's the link to the movie, which was released yesterday. It's pretty great, despite some cheesy CGI and pretty brief battles.

News / Playstation Network on Global Lockdown
« on: March 01, 2010, 08:41:39 AM »
I tried to log in with my PS3 this morning, and, not only was I not able to sign in, but some of my games (in particular, MvC2) had reverted to their trial versions. I thought that my PS3 system was just being full of crap, until I read this:

Quote
All around the world, PlayStation 3 consoles simply aren't working like they're supposed to, with an error preventing people from not just going online, but from playing some PS3 games offline as well.

From Europe to the Americas to, well, my house in Australia, users (mostly of older "Fat" consoles, those released before 2009's "PS3 Slim") are complaining that upon booting their consoles up, they're unable to sign into their accounts, check their trophies, use dynamic themes or access the PlayStation Network. That's fine, Sony say there are PSN connection problems, and that they are "looking into it".

Problem is, the error does more than just prevent you from going online. It prevents you from playing certain games offline as well. Even for some consoles that aren't connected to the PSN, like debug units. The screen above is what I was greeted with on a retail console when attempting to play Heavy Rain, and pressing out of it simply reboots the PS3, returning you to the main menu screen. It's the same story for other games that feature dynamic trophy support.

PSN games are no different; I tried to boot up "Flower", only to be greeted with a similar message about failed copyright protection, and it was right back to the XMB.

Sony say "stay tuned" for updates on the problem.

Ole Talk / Long John Silver's takes a dive.
« on: February 19, 2010, 01:46:28 PM »
...in Arima, at least. I just came from there, and it looks like they've gone under.

While it's sad that businesses close down (because, you know...that means people get sent home), in Long John Silver's case, I can't help but feel that it was inevitable. The food, for one, was pretty bland. I can't recall one instance where I left a LJS restaurant and felt satisfied, much less get my money's worth. The crab cakes were pretty decent, though. Still, I can't help but feel like I wasn't eating a freshly fried piece of fish more than I was eating breaded cardboard. The sauces didn't help any.

I also felt that LJS was really behind the times in terms of keeping up with Trinidad's culture. Sure, they attempted to introduce new sauces like Mango Chutney and Shadon Beni, but when your food hardly complements your garnishes, what does that tell you.

Eventually, it caught up.
I'd pass there day after day, and even on Wednesday, and there wouldn't be a single customer.

I felt really bad that people would be sent home, but I guess LJS just couldn't cut the mustard.
Adios, Long John's.

News / Heihachi Mishima....is dead.
« on: February 03, 2010, 06:07:09 PM »
...for real, this time, as his voice actor commits suicide.

Quote
Legendary seiyuu Daisuke Gori has died under circumstances police consider likely to be suicide. He was 57.

According to police and witnesses, he was found dead on his back on a Nakano Ward street in Tokyo at 3PM.

He had apparently slit his wrists. A knife was found underneath the body, and police also recovered a note; they are treating the death as a suicide.

Gori, born 1952, was known for hundreds of voice acting roles in anime, movies and games, notably Gundam, Fist of the North Star, Kinniku Man and Dragonball Z. Some of his most recent roles were in One Piece, Doraemon and Slayers; he was active throughout 2009.

Death
According to fellow voice actors, Gori was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus a few years prior to his death and his vision was affected by retinal detachment as a result of the disease. He complained to coworkers, "I can't read the scripts. I can't do my job like I'd like to." (Daihon ga yome nai. Omo yoni shigoto ga deki nai.?) During an Anpanman recording session in late 2009, a depressed-sounding Gori told his close friend voice actor Kazuhiko Inoue, "I've grown old."

On January 17, 2010 at approximately 3:00 P.M., Gori was found lying on his stomach with blood dripping from his wrists in the middle of a Nakano, Tokyo street by a passerby, who then notified the police. Authorities from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Nakano station discovered a utility knife under his body as well as a suicide note (with the words "I'm sorry" (and "Thank you" scrawled on it) addressed to his family in his pants pocket. Gori's death was then ruled a suicide; he was three weeks short of his 58th birthday.

Handheld Gaming / Coming Soon: Giana Sisters DS
« on: November 20, 2009, 09:36:17 AM »

Now, a few of you might think this game's name strikes you as familiar.

If you've brushed up on your gaming history, the Great Giana Sisters was actually a game from the 80s. <== Click for Wiki article.

Basically, it was a rip-off of the more popular Super Mario Bros game by Nintendo, and it was done as a retort to Nintendo's refusal to allow the Mario Bros. to be ported to the Commodore 64. It was promoted as 'superior' to the Mario Bros., even including the message 'The Brothers are HISTORY!' on posters advertising the game. A mere 2 weeks later, it was pulled off the shelves, under pressure from Nintendo's lawyers.

Because of its rarity (and unauthorized copying of the game helped too), this game achieved cult status.

"Bling, bling, baby!"

Now, in 2009, a new Giana Sisters game is coming out on the DS, titled....well. Giana Sisters DS.
I was curious, so I took a spin on their website.

http://www.giana-sisters.com/giana_sisters_en.html

Wow. That game looks adorable. I like how they've re-designed everything, especially Giana, because if you've seen what she looked like BEFORE.....(shudder). And the music basically screams homage to the 80's-early 90's style of side-scrolling tunes, which is a big plus to a child of the 80's like me. This game looks pretty interesting enough, so I think I might get this one. Sure, it still looks like a Super Mario Bros. rip-off, but it still looks fun to play.

Here's some screenshots I coralled off of Google. A bit fuzzy in some cases.

So, in closing, looks like a pretty nifty game to include in your DS library. But, seeing as how I was burned before by a certain Zombie game that shall not be mentioned, I'll take the game for a test run first.

"Mr. Owl, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?"

...just ask for the way out.

Quote
FORGET the knotted bed sheets or tunnel. A New York prisoner has come up with a much easier way to break out of jail: ask the guards for the exit.

The inmate, who was wearing a suit for a court appearance on charges of multiple store robberies, simply wandered out of an open cell door and into a courtroom on Wednesday, the New York Post daily reported.

There, he calmly asked a court officer "which way is out?" and the guard - mistaking the escapee for a lawyer - directed him to the lobby.

The daring jailbird went straight to his 81-year-old mother's Manhattan home to change clothes, then left, she told the Post.

"I thought he was discharged. He was all dressed up," she said.
