2011 was a mammoth year in gaming.
Sequels upon sequels stole the show and broke records across genres.
Games like Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, Gears of War, Call of Duty, Battlefield, to name a few arrived with spectacular welcomes across GATT.

This is GATT's 2011 Game of the Year Awards where we nominate and vote on what our community deems the best of the year.

This is how it will work:

Every poster is allowed to nominate any 3 games of which they think should be awarded the GATT Game of the Year Title.
As you guys post I'll update the first post, with the nominations.

The top 5 will then be selected and added as a poll to the voting thread.
The voting will at that point begin!

Nominations end on December 13th.

Rules:
  • 1.) Each GATT member is allowed to reply a total of 3 nominations to this thread.

2.) The game must have been released within the year 2011.. (January 1st to November 29th)
If you don't know the date, still post and I'll verify the release, or you yourself can do the honors :)

3.) In all fairness, the nominees should have been played by the poster (to avoid biased votes for a particular title, Nominate what you played and loved). It is totally fine if you wish to nominate an unplayed game though. This is just a guideline.

The titles with the most nominations for a specific platform will be the platform specific GOTY. eg.) If Gears of War 3 receives the most nominations, it will be the Xbox 360 Game of the Year.

Happy nominating!

"For the first time we are taking Agent 47 on a personal journey which allows us to explore other parts of the Hitman fantasy," said Tore Blystad, game director, IO Interactive. "This is both a familiar and yet significantly different experience from other Hitman games; something our silent assassins will relish, as will all those new to the Hitman world."

Built using IO Interactive's Glacier 2 proprietary game engine, players can expect a cinematic story, distinctive art direction, and an original game design that combines Hitman's classic game mechanics with entirely new ones.

Hitman: Absolution will make its grand debut at E3 2011 next month for the Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3. Until then, keep your eyes peeled on the game's official website for fresh intel.

2011 is packed with multiple genres of awesome. Quite possible one of, if not the most overpacked year yet (in terms of quality). What are must haves for you guys? and what are you still on the bench about. Also feel free to mention any games that weren't included in the above list.

Personally I need a REL high paying job this year >.>

12
2010 was another great year in gaming. Franchises like Halo, God of War, Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, Super Mario, Need for Speed and Gran Turismo etc. brought some excellent entries this year that we all played and loved whilst innovations like Kinect, PS Move, Wii Motion Plus continue to push the boundaries of gaming.

This is GATT's 2010 Game of the Year Awards  where we nominate and vote on what our community deems the best of the year.

This is how it will work:

Every poster is allowed to nominate any 3 games (that they played) of which they think should be awarded the GATT Game of the Year Title.
As you guys post I'll update the first post, with the nominations.

The top 5 will then be selected and added as a poll to the voting thread.
The voting will at that point begin!

Nominations End December 18th @ 12am (Next Saturday's Night)
The voting poll will be up on the 18th-19th

Rules:

  • 1.) Each GATT member is allowed to reply a total of 3 nominations to this thread.

2.) The game must have been released within the year 2010.. (January 1st to December 9th)
If you don't know the date, still post and I'll verify the release, or you yourself can do the honors :)

3.) In all fairness, the nominees should have been played by the poster (to avoid biased votes for a particular title, Nominate what you played and loved).

The titles with the most nominations from GATT members for a specific platform will be the platform specific GOTY. eg.) If Halo: Reach receives the most nominations, it will be the Xbox 360 Game of the Year.
A game like Call of Duty: Black Ops which is multiplatform will be eligible for the Xbox 360 Game of the Year if it receives more nominations than an exclusive title.

Happy nominating!

Ole Talk / GATT ~ Looking back on 2010
« on: December 09, 2010, 07:00:26 PM »
2010 has been a tough one for the world. Lots of large-scale events that make you value your life and your family's lives that much more.
This thread is where we reflect and discuss things that have occurred in our personal lives over the past year as well as events that have occurred locally and globally that are etched into memory for life.

Flashback '09

  • A quick flashback for me brings forth one of the worst disasters on the planet.
The Haiti quake. 2010 had barely started and on January 12th, near 1/4 Million lives  were lost when God shook the earth.

Trinidad elected a new Government just this year that has been suject to heavy criticisms as the year progressed.
450+ murders in Trinidad so far.

The volcanic ash cloud that disrupted air traffic over Europe.

The Euro-zone economy in crisis with Greece, Ireland totally collapsing.

Most recently the Asian tension with North Korea, South Korea and China. The wikileaks "leak" doesn't help either with documents citing the words coming from high ranked individuals in the US and Asia alike.

Personally, I completed by Bsc. Business Computing @ SAM's. Relieved to get out of that school as many of you can imagine from me and many other's rants in threads that discussed SAM's this year. Additionally some family issues that plague most all family's on the planet with tension and past memories being brought to play when you simply could not take it.

    The Good Stuff:
GATT having a memorable epic appearance at "Flow's world". Lot's of fun for all that took part.

2010 Fifa World Cup ~ Spain winning for the first time.

NASA discovering a new lifeform comprising of "arsenic" that broadens the scale of the human search for extra-terrestrial life

    Inception..nuff said

God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Call of Duty-Black Ops

This is all I can throw out there at this time. Looking forward to the discussion that follows.

Sony PlayStation / Gran Turismo 5 ~ The Official Thread
« on: November 22, 2010, 09:53:15 PM »

I think it's safe to say that most gamers locally have at some point in their life played a Gran Turismo game. Pretty much anyone with a PS2 modified or legit has played the awesome that is Gran Turismo 3 and its sequel.

On Wednesday (24th), Gran Turismo 5 will be hitting storeshelves after being revealed 4 years ago. The game has over 1000 cars some with fully modeled interiors, nascar, a track editor, car damage (a first for the series), 16 player multiplayer support, splitscreen, custom soundtracks, psp and pspgo integration, gran turismo TV (streaming car shows etc.), full career mode, car customisation, 3D support, Move Support etc..etc..etc..

When you think about the best racing games of all time, you think Mario Kart, Need For Speed, Burnout and Forza. There remains one series that is the prestige of the genre, it is without a doubt the definitive Gran Turismo.
Fellow GATTER's, race you soon in GT5!

Mobile Phones & Gadgets / WTK: Unlock Nokia C3
« on: November 11, 2010, 03:49:46 AM »
http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_c3-3269.php

Parents picked up this "pay as you go" gsm phone in Canada under "Roger's Wireless" to use while they were visiting and to bring back for my sister to use.

I tried this website: http://www.unlockallcellular.com/
They had the Nokia C3 listed as well as Roger's under phone networks.
They charged $14USD to "generate" the unlock code. A day after my order they said they couldn't generate the code and refunded the $14.

Anyone have suggestions on where, or how to get this unlocked to work on bmobile or digicel?

Hardware, Tweaking & Networking / Blink Broadband - Status Thread

Noticed some people have blink problems, and some having no problems, just like with Flow :P.
Here is the official thread for anything Blink problems, praises and discussions.
Those with great service could begin by posting some speedtests and pingtests.

Handheld Gaming / God of War: Ghost of Sparta (PSP)
« on: November 02, 2010, 07:18:28 PM »

Surprised there hasn't been a thread for this one :).
This game came out today and the universal acclaim in reviews has been astounding, with some reviewers
comparing it to God of War 3 and saying that the experience is equivalent, if not better o_O.

This trailer just about sums it up:
http://www.viddler.com/explore/sceablog/videos/1374/

Definitely getting this one!

Handheld Gaming / WTK PSP 3000 Repairs?
« on: September 09, 2010, 06:56:40 PM »
A few months ago someone stole my PSP 3000 -.-.
We found out who stole it, eventually got it back but apparently they dropped the damn thing. (I probably never dropped it, so that is a REL wtf.)
Since then it won't start. When you try to power it on the green power light stays on for a few seconds, screen stays blank and the green light goes off.

I was planning to get a new psp eventually but I'm missing out on the new Ace Combat game and God of War game coming out.
Are there any trustworthy, effective local PSP repair options that maybe able to repair this? See what part is damaged and replace for a fairly good price?

Thanks!

PC Gaming / Guild Wars 2: The Official Thread
« on: August 10, 2010, 03:48:06 PM »

I did a search of Guild Wars and saw that many of you on here have played this game and loved it. I know Crixx was/is a big fan himself.
Don't know if all of you guys have been following the trickles of information being released by Arenanet over the past few months, but they taking it to very exciting levels these weeks.

Some big news that happened was the removal of the "healing class", yea no monks and no more "GLF Monks!" spamming every town.
They haven't been "too clear" meaning there still might be a class that could be only for team support, but to compensate for the "monk removal" every class has a dedicated healing skill.

Other big news is the increase to LEVEL 80 from LEVEL 20 in Guild Wars 1.
But don't get pissed off yet. Arenanet is going really bold in wanting to change standard MMO design.
This level 80 is not a grindfest like World Of Warcraft. The experience gap between each level is the SAME, meaning that you get to level 80 from level 79 in the same time you took to get from level 1 to level 2.

There will be no "dying" in guild wars 2, but a "downed" state in which a player can revive you from that downed state.
http://guildwars2.com/en/the-game/combat/healing-death/

On top of all of this the game will feature dynamic in-game events:
http://guildwars2.com/en/the-game/dynamic-events/

Crafting your personal story:
http://guildwars2.com/en/the-game/personal-stories/

Guild Wars 2: Design Manifesto

All you guild wars fans make sure to go and read this:
http://www.arena.net/blog/guild-wars-2-design-manifesto

Yes, a MANIFESTO for a game, not a very common thing and a bold move by Arenanet.

Professions

Also so far in the trickle of news information, 3 professions have been revealed that we all know and love:
http://guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/elementalist/
http://guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/warrior/
http://guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/ranger/

You can see some gameplay from each profession at the above pages.

Guild Wars: Ghosts of Ascalon

Additionally Guild Wars: Ghosts of Ascalon (Book) for all those that like reading.
The book ties in the events of Eye of the North and "WAR IN KRYTA" (War in Kryta is an ingame event (mini campaign) that started a few months ago and can be done on any character that beat prophecies of eye of the north) and leads up to the events of Guild Wars 2.
Arenanet plans to release 3 books, so part 1 (Ghosts of Ascalon) just came out and the second is planned for December 2010 I believe.

http://www.amazon.com/Guild-Wars-2-Ghosts-Ascalon/dp/1416589473/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1281469173&sr=8-1

Gameplay is set to be revealed at Gamescom in 2 weeks time.

Also the manifesto video has been released today, see it at:
http://guildwars2.com/en/

So all you guys pitch in what you think, and well with respect to Guild Wars 1, I highly recommend ya'll revisit PVE and take part in the "War In Kryta". Good Stuff. New end-game weapons to earn, new enemies, bosses, daily bounties etc.

O and if any of ya'll need a guild if returning to Guild Wars 1 PVE, I've got one up, 4 trini's in it so far along with some international peeps and the guild group intends to shift to Guild Wars 2.
