Hardware, Tweaking & Networking / Pentium 4 overclocked to 6.3GHz
« on: November 09, 2004, 02:07:55 AM »
i guess obcession is one thing to it.

heres what the article said.

Quote
INTEL FAILED miserably to deliver a 4GHz Pentium 4 but overclockers just never say die. Probably because they don't have to spend $2 billion on a fab.

We got this nice link where you can see that if you are using home built compressors you can cock a microprocessor up just as much as you want Chap that calls himself Fugger manage to do this on DFI 875P-T motherboard using 3.6 GHz P4, Centon Advanced DDR TCCD, OCZ DDR Booster. [Didn't Charlie write this one last week, Fudo? Ed.]

He cooled this rug with Chilly1 three stage CPU cascade. Take a peak here

I guess that guys at DFI did a good job with their motherboard and this OCZ DDR booster has to be a nice thing since all of the serious overclockers are using it.

So even Intel stopped the megahertz chase there is a big community that hasn’t.

AMD accused of blatant Geode benchmark abuse

Via is the victim in unseemly row

By INQUIRER staff: Thursday 30 September 2004, 18:01

THE EDITOR OF the Microprocessor Report has lit out aginst AMD for using the Embedded Processor Rating System (EPRS) to downplay various Via C3 processors.
In an editorial heralding next week's Fall Processor Forum, Kevin Krewell, editor-in-chief of the MP, claimed that AMD's Geode marketing team used the EPRS to rationalise a processor number scheme to position its products against some Via C3 products.

Krewell said: "We believe AMD used the benchmarks as a blatant market positioning tool".

According to Krewell, AMD has argued that using frequency to compare Geodes with Via chips isn't valid, hence its use of EPRS. Benchmarking controversies, he said, may well be the result of marketing departments manipulating the market.

Some wags, he says, even call benchmarking benchmarketing.

He points out some chip architectures - he cites Intel's Netbust architecture - have "wildly exaggerated pipeline lengths" giving a 2GHz Pentium M a better SPECint2000_base score than a 3.6GHz Pentium 4.

The upshot of the editorial is that some supposedly rational people are going to argue the toss at a panel discussion at the Fall Processor forum on Wednesday - and that's likely to be pretty controversial.

Full details of the agenda for the forum, held in the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, Dullsville, California, can be found here. µ

Reviews, Previews & First Looks / Money drain or a Chapter update
« on: January 04, 2004, 01:54:10 AM »
well another year and a new Legacy of Kain game. Legacy of Kain: Defiance continues after the nail biting ending of soul reaver 2.  recap-- SR2 ended with raziel coming ful circle and fulfilling his destiny of killing his human self and being devoured by the soul reaver. it was at this moment that kain decides the break the circle stops the soul reaver from devouring raziel in the hope of mending his own role and destiny. the game ends with the phrase "History abhors a paradox"

in this outting we have a team up of the two heros Kain and Raziel for a new chapter of this series. ofcourse its all the hack and chop that you have become accustom to but it now focuses on the reaver of which there are 2 the physical reaver made to host raziel soul and taken as kain's right and the spirtual reaver which itself is raziels souls bound to himself.

my only question about this new series sis "isnt it about time the Kain saga come to an end?" i swear we''ll be playing legacy of kain  episodes till late in our 40s. i guess edios learnt a valuable lesson from killing off lara kroft. killing off good games mean reduced income.

i will spoil you fun for you by saying that THIS ISNT THE LAST OF THE SERIES and there is a new one planned for next year but story wise it is captivating and wil have you speel bound  never the less.
give it a touch.

Reviews, Previews & First Looks / Chrome ( and im not talking rims)
« on: September 28, 2003, 08:56:39 AM »
Chrome is a new beautiful game curtesy of the wonder Unreal2 engine. let me say this first "this bloody game looks mad". this is what unreal should have looked like and play like instead of that crap they game us. there is a demo and although a bit chunky id advise everyone to have a look. i must say that its a bit chunky and definately not one for the gFX deficient but dont be dishearten cause the gameplay is worth it. although the halo like interactivity has become kinda cliche in fps these days the ability to use planes, buggys and other equipment does add the joy of the game.
the demo stage greets you with a lush highly rendered open feild from where you start your mission. the kinda feild that would make you GFX card blush at the opportunity to perform (or shudder and cringe in pain). the kinda field that make you glad you did buy your g/f a birthday gift cause you were saving for that GFX card. the kinda feild bill gates probably saw when he was prattling on about XP. anyway you get the point.the actual demo itself is a bit cliche, with your typical raid the barn type mission but youll be too busy bussin caps to care and with rag doll physics that put ann and andy to shame you have even more fun.
chrome is A MUST GET. look, break your piggie bank, do your chores, pull out all your teeth so you can jack the tooth fairy but get this game  (but please dont download it unless its the demo).
