hahaha. A lot of good people putting energy into this, sponsors have really out done themselves.

My hats off to them.

I confess to actually being confused by this. WHy are they putting so much effort into a 32 man tourney with small prizes? At that size, those slots were likely going to fill up even without promotion. I would think that the cost of the commercial(!) alone would be at least 10 times the cost of the prizes. Are they planning on shilling for TVs and furniture while players are there or something? :p

I can't believe there was a TV commercial for this! No SF tournament in the US has ever gotten a TV commercial, not even Evo! How did they manage to pull that off?

As I suspected, all 32 slots filled up quickly. I would have liked to have signed up, but I'm Old™ and Retired™ and my heart just isn't into competing like it used to be. Plus I'm terrible now (last time I played AE was last year August). Christ, where was this 5 years ago?

None of those games deserves GOTY. That belongs to the (sadly, only in Europe at the moment) Xenoblade Chronicles. I guess it'll have to win GOTY 2012 when it comes out next year in the US, finally.

Wait: Who is this person who has stolen my name? >:| :p

re: tournament

If this was 5 years ago, I'd be on this in a heartbeat. Sadly (?), I not only have a wife, but a near 3 year old daughter who is going to start school in two weeks and a soon-to-be 4 month old son, so I don't even get to play games any more (I've played AE a grand total of 45 minutes). I'm old and washed up. :|

Yeah. Though I'm no expert with Gief, I would have expected more [EX] Banishing Flats and Lariats to keep 'Rog honest. He gave him way too much room to work with there. Gief is supposed to have the advantage in this match.

BTW, with the possible exception of Wong vs. Daigo, all Rog matches are boring. So are most (all?) matches with Sagat, Blanka, Chun-li, Bison ( :crybaby2:), Honda. At last half the cast actually.

So did this thing ever come off? is it still happening? What gives?

Add me to the list. I only play Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter HD (and I guess MvC2 when that comes out if it holsd up).

PSN ID: ShinUltima

*appears* Was this site down yesterday? I couldn't access it at all.

ANyway, I'm still around, but Real Life™ prevents me (baby daughter, CCNA classes) from playing much. But I try to scrounge up some time every now and then to play online. I'm on PSN, user ID: ShinUltima. I play SFIV and SFHDR at the moment, will get MvC2 when it comes out (this will actually be the first time I will own MvC2! I never owned it before! Though I'll still be bad at it, though maybe I might be able to pulll combos more consistently with my TE stick). Pretty bad at all, but eh. Small 'ting. I only play Bison in both.

If I had my TE stick, I *might* have considered attending this. As it is, Real Life™ is still kicking my ass (CCNA, 3 month old daughter, work) pretty hard, so going in at only 50% strength is a waste of time. :/

I is on Flow.

That reminds me. I need to find some of you bastards on PSN...

Just letting you guys know, my wife gave birth to our daughter last Saturday. I'm more or less done with MvC2 (have been for years, actually; playing you guys merely reactivated these old hands temporarily, but even reaching my old peak is a fleeting fancy, far less surpassing it), so even though you haven't really seen me in a while, you really won't be seeing me for a while now. :p

However, I'll be looking to pick up SFIV and SFHD when I get my PS3 (hopefully in January). I already have the TV setup for it: A Sharp AQUOS 42" 1080p I got from Courts!

So I hear whiplash/NEO are having a MvC2 tournament this December. I heard it from Alan, one of the guys who frequents St. James arcade. IF this thing goes through, since this would be about the second or third time I've heard NEO trying to organize such a thing since last year, I will definitely NOT be attending, because this December my wife and I will be expecting our first child. If it's at the very end of the month I might be able to make a quick appearance, but other than that, no. I'll be waaaaaay too busy. Just though I'd give you guys a heads up in case you cared.

Also, Alan told me whiplash/NEO had some sort of preview tournament a couple months ago, won my NEO. Alan told me that NEO changed teams after every match. IF this is true, since it's possible he may been mistaken, I would like to point out that's a no no. The rules are winner must keep his character/team, and only the loser may switch. Just FYI.

On a somewhat unrelated note, did anyone know there's a Tekken 5:Dark Resurrection unit in Gulf City? I went there last Friday for work and saw it there.

They also have HF (of course), MvC2, 3S (2P joystick not working properly), XSF, MSF, MvC1, CvS1 (UGH!), Soul Calibur III, SFEX2 (I think), and probably a few others I forget. This was in just one arcade. I don't know if they still have the second one; I didn't get a chance to check.

$2.50 a coin though. >:|

You'll forgive me for being extremely skeptical about this. I really don't see how this is supposed to work, or (more importantly) how it's supposed to make money. :|

15
Yeah. When I talk about these things, I'm really talking about the highest levels, not necessarily our little random giggle fests. And the thing is NEO, to compete at the highest levels, Mega Man and Beat Plane simply don't cut it. Mine is not rubbish thinking, it's reality thinking.

As I told you, you're not even the third best MM I've ever seen or faced, and those guys got crushed by Strider/GWM/WM/Red Venom (Wolverine is actually the worst of the top tier, at least in the arcade). I've done some of that crushing myself, but I was really just kinda average at the highest levels. And that was 9 years ago.

Don't take the roughly even (might have been slightly in your favour) wins against me as indicative of anything other than than you're fighting someone way past his prime, and who wasn't even that great (compared to the other really good players at the game) in the first place. And JD's DWM barely counts as a DWM team since his WM is barely being used at his potential (if you can't do Unfly infinite with WM, you're not using him right). The best players in the world couldn't stop a good DWM with anyone that didn't include Strider or a WM when the game was at its peak, far less now, barring perhaps keyboard Wolverine (certain Wolvie infinites become possible only on keyboard with macros) or HUGE gaps in skill.

BTW, you're right that GWM/WM aren't MvC2 Big Four - they're worse. At least the Big FOur in MvC2 are balanced against each other and there is no single best team. That doesn't apply to MvC1, where 1 team singlehandedly destroys all other teams, save for itself and, to a lesser extent, a team with Strider and a WM. If I hadn't seen this all first hand, perhaps I wouldn't believe it either. But I have, so I do.

Whip:

There wouldn't be much of a point to a grudematch since I'm not good enough personally to prove all the things I say (e.g. I can't do WM Unfly Infinite, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, nor does it mean that a good WM won't likely kill you off of one knee dive), nor do I give enough of a rat's ass to try. The last time I got beat by Megaman, it took six months of heavy duty training to overcome (a former roommate of mine, perhaps the second best MM and definitely the best Cap A I've ever seen; I stole my Cap A from him), but once I did so, I never looked back. That was ten years ago and I no longer have the time or the will to do something like that. Maybe if I still liked MvC1 to any extent, but otherwise, no. I'll take my losses from children just fine, cause it proves nothing.

16
Hmmm. I'll head up around 4:30 PM then. Probably get some food if I don't see anybody there.

17
So, uh.... Trincity this Saturday then? What time?

GAH. $2.50 a coin.. CHRIST.

Also, LOL at Jd saying GWM is "his" when nearly every bitch and their brother (at least away) plays him, and many have been doing so since at least late 1998.

18
As noted in other thread, been extremely busy of late, and also got a Wii and Brawl. Free time is at a premium. I'll try and make this thing on Saturday 21st June at least. Though don't expect anything great; the last time I played MvC1 was last year... October I think? And it's unlikely I'll be getting any practice before that date. In fact, I'm trying to remember what it is I had "planned" for NEo and JD in the first place! Missed Combos ahoy!

As for the New game, no I wasn't talking about DC vs. MK (more garbage). I was talking about the sequel to MvC2.

19
Just letting you'll know that I have been extremely busy of late. It's getting ridiculous now.

I also now have a Wii and Smash Bros Brawl. What little free time I have has just been cut into considerably. If you want me for anything, you need to give me two weeks advance now. ^_^

20
What time is this going to be? Late afternoon really isn't good for me, but I'll see.

(So who's following up on the NEW Vs. game just announced? Holy left field Batman!)
