honestly, looking at the speed, stock and overclocked, i can't say i'm impressed personally at the performance of the card. Especially the fact that it's a dual PCB.. man.. nvidia needs to buy ah new drawing board and start to work again. Knowing it's not really a "next gen" offering from nvidia, but still, the current G92's i.e the 8800gt and the 8800gts are honestly the best buys from the green camp... i will still give ATi the crown basically because of the price of the 3870x2. The price of the 9800gx2 aint gonna be pretty.. so i hope nvidia knows what they are doing, but not everything has to be perfect at first try.. only time can tell...

That's the thing eh.. we'll hopefully have 5200 series cards that don't suck, a 5800 series card that's NOT a vacuum cleaner or we could have a X1600 that kicks @$$... it's gonna be weird... I studying what about those poor ppl that mix it up...
*guy walks into bestbuy* baka: "I'd like to get an X800 please" Clerk: "Would that be Nvidia or AMD?" baka: "Wait.. their two?" Clerk: "Yes sir" baka: "Who's the original manu?" Clerk: "AMD sir" baka: "I'll have the AMD X800 then!" Clerk: "Certainly sir, excellent choice" ... O_o
Later that night.. baka: WTF crysis won't even run on this crap...

ok thanks w1ntry.. so it seems that ATi's stream processors work the way microsoft intended the technology to operate but nvidia just decided to do their own thing. Pfft, well i guess if every company did the same thing in the pc world, it would have been a bit boring...
hmm just noticing that this topic has turned into something quite informative.. learn something new in alot of the threads i read here..

hmmm, i'm waiting to see that 9800gx2 as well. I'm seeing the 8800gtx's prices drop to 409usd on newegg, so that can mean one thing. The 3870x2 is a massive card yo, but what totally confuses me is the stream processors. ATi's gpus have more than Nvidia's hands down, yet in all the benchmarks i see, the nvidia gpus seem to have better performance. I know that the ati drivers not perfect but does that say nvidia's drivers are? I sorta believe that nvidia's SP'S are faster than ATi's but still, 320 vs. 112.. somebody explain that to me nah.. my head kinda hard right now..lol

hmm interesting.. next thing we will see stream processing chips replacing our normal cpu's the way this is goin..
Well Larabee if that's what it was called (I can't rememberm there's so many projects) is Intel's graphics chip that's being developed and it'll take the small multi-core approach since GPUs are already massively parallel. Also intel has its' own mini core project running already where they demoed 80 mini cores on 1 CPU package running windows XP. So in a sense that is already in the works my good man.
o ok cool.. i'll look that up. Kinda like the idea of the way stream processors behave. So having a cpu like that is gonna maximise overall performance and efficiency on computing tasks, especially that protein folding project.

hmm i am actually glad to see ATi is taking a stand on making bang for buck solutions their main focus, kinda good news for a bang for buck pc man like me. I do hope they work on their drivers so that they can get justified performance from their hardware. Their architecture is there, but the drivers seem to be struggling and holding back performance. Hope to see something special from these cards when they release, so that ATi can sit on the throne again for at least a quarter or two..
