PC Gaming / Re: Building a PC

Nice, I think that would completely blow his budget though.

Could you put figures together and see what total you come up with?

If he gets everything together in one, sure, but that's why at the end I said he could piece it. CPU + 1 video card + 1-2 screens and his case/RAM/etc. Then later on when he gets more money, get more screens/video card/3D kit/etc. But the foundation is key, he'd need to get a good strong basic video card/mobo/etc first, you understand.

That is a phenomenal budget.

You can put together a BEAST of a gaming rig for that.

Battlefield 4 will be in nirvana on a us$1500 - $2000 machine.

As a starting point, have a lot at this build from Toms Hardware.

Motherboard:   Gigabyte Z87X-OC, LGA 1150, Intel Z87 Express $200
Processor:   Intel Core i5-4670K: 3.4 GHz Base Clock Rate, 3.8 GHz Maximum Turbo Boost $240
Heat Sink:   Corsair H50 Liquid Cooling System $55
Memory:      Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3-1866 Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9R   $70
Graphics:      Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 2 GB 256-bit GDDR5 $400
System Drive:   Samsung 840 MZ-7TD120BW 2.5" 120 GB SATA 6Gb/s (SSD) $100
Storage Drive:   WD Blue WD10EZEX 1 TB, 7200 RPM, 64 MB Cache, SATA 6Gb/s $70
Optical:      Samsung SH-224DB/RSBS DVD Burner $22
Case:      Antec GX 700 ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $55
Power:      Corsair 650TX 650 W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Bronze Modular PSU $90
Total Cost $1302

After shipping, duty @ vat. This will land squarely within your budget. Around US$1600.00

A few recommendations would be to inch up to the i7 if you want to wtfpwn more men in our very popular 3Dmark leaderboard.

Also, bump that SSD up to a 256GB. They can be had for sub US$200 right now. So it won't break the bank. The additional room will be most welcome for a heavy gamer, especially with Steam sales incoming for the yuletide season.

Likewise, the storage drive could take a bump to 2TB if you're heavy into media or photography.

Lastly, double the ram to 16GB for a warm fuzzy feeling of overkill. Future proofed. You should be in the game (pun intended) for years to come.

Those changes will take you into the realm of US$1600.00 - $1700

After shipping and customs charges, you'll land around US$1999.95

1 - Don't buy an 840 or 840 Pro unless it's 256GB or larger. It has problems with smaller file sizes. If you want a better smaller SSD, a Plextor M5P is a better choice for it.
2 - If getting a 770, go for the 4GB version. If possible, grab a 780 or a 780Ti for best single card performance without going SLI. SLI isn't really a bad thing and can boost the hell out of a slightly struggling system, but it has tradeoffs that I would not recommend it be the FIRST thing you aim for, so best single card = win. IF you still want to get SLI, then I would quicker suggest two 780s over one 780Ti, but if you can get SLI 780Tis you can easily play your Crysis 3 at 1440p maxed out.
3 - I suggest going for 1080p 120Hz/144Hz screens instead of getting a single 1440p screen. If you have the super budget for it, expand to 4 screens with SLI and you can run a lot of games super widescreen 1080p with your SLI (the reason I say 4 screens is if you use SLI with 3 monitors it MUST be one large desktop, and the 4th screen acts as a "second monitor" basically). It's fine to get one or two screens now and expand upon it when you have a chance. The 120Hz is for extra smoothness with the sexy video cards you're gonna get, and later on I'll get you into some 3D gaming with it. Especially 3D surround. Yes. (And contrary to popular belief, nVidia 3D vision 2 glasses kit is VERY nice in the games that like it. It's like being in iMax for your game, especially with 3 monitors running it).
4 - I hear MANY bad things about corsair Hxx watercooling products; unless I think it's the H250? I really can't say. but I suggest an entirely different water cooling product for it.
5 - Again, if you can manage it, one of the Ivy Bridge E (i7-48xx, i7-49xx) CPUs would benefit you a lot in certain CPU-bound games (Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, possibly the upcoming Watch Dogs) but a 4670K is perfect for ALL OTHER KINDS OF GAMES OTHERWISE.

-------------------------------------------------------------

^ not trying to break he bank or anything, but when somebody say he have a $2000 budget or a little more, it feels like the best thing is to build a really GOOD default build (at least a 4GB 770 or a 780 or a 780Ti, and the 1080p 120Hz screen and maybe the mobo/6-core CPU if you want) and you could add screens and extra video cards etc later.

Wow first time I haven't bought a cod in years. Got BF4 instead. Seems I made the right choice.

Same thing I said in the pastebin too. DICE actually are fixing and working on it and informing us of updates, and they have separated the PC version's updates from the console. They get my vote, whether I like CoD as a game or Battlefield as a game. Despite the TERRIBLE release of BF4 on PC (which was arguably worse than CoD, because at least CoD is PLAYABLE without constant crashing of servers/losing hours of stats) DICE fixed, is fixing, and WILL fix it. So they have the right attitude. So kudos to them, and good luck to them for it.

Again, speaking STRICTLY in terms of PC version vs "PC version" *cough* Xbox 1 ver of Ghosts emulated on PC *cough*

Man, it's seeing his video that I decided I should make the longer list of reasons. Because it's just... it's not WORTH IT. I got it free, and I'm not even playing it. At least I played MW3 and stuff, and that was back with the old PC in my sig that I have yet to update to my new PC. But this... this is just terrible.
The SP is no better or worse than any MW3 really. I've played a little of it, but it's a basic, generic CoD campaign. Black Ops 2's SP was far better in quality, with unlocking weapons and doing challenges in each level and choosing your own loadout. It's a huge step backward in terms of playability; even though I like the idea of them not giving you 15 different waypoints just to cross a courtyard.

But as I said, this thread's SOLE purpose was to talk about the PC port in itself, and I leave NO mention of the gameplay or the game's mechanics otherwise. If you want to find out if it's a good multiplayer game or if the SP campaign is good, there are at least a hundred different review sites or you can go to metacritic or whatever, but an in-depth review of the PC port is a difficult thing to come by.

Hey. I like never post here, so you know this is something real special. Basically, after encountering the horrible, terrible, ungodly excuse that is a "PC version" of Call of Duty: Ghosts, I had to come and tell users about it. I don't want more people to waste money on such a disgusting version of a game. If you think you'll enjoy the game yourself, get it for Xbox 360. Or PS3. Or Xbox 1. Or PS4. I frankly don't care if you buy it multiple times either, but the PC version is so terrible, so bad, so awful, that I have made a pastebin of a LONG list of reasons as to why this is so. So if you guys were wondering (for some reason) "Should I get this game for PC?", then read this, and if you STILL don't think it's a bad idea, go forth with the knowledge you've gained.

Pastebin of reasons: http://pastebin.com/R0F2YkMy

It's my preference. Plus, I get ~2 hours or more on battery so I use it for class too, and play stuff inbetween classes at an ac outlet.

Also helps when I get gigs where they want me to run games off the machine, as I don't have to just carry a desktop. All in all, it works for me. Most likely won't work for most people, and half the people it WOULD work for wouldn't even try it XD

Yeah, that was with stock CPU for now, I'm gonna handle that later when I figure out the tool and the best way to do it. I've seen someone crack 16k, I think I can do 14. As for the machine, I got it from Mythlogic, and this was the base model I chose up from https://www.mythlogic.com/configure.php?id=149

Here what nah yes, let me leave this up here for now. I'll make that thing crack 14k when I actually work on OCing the CPU. Should be good enough for a top 10, yes?

Brace yourself. Might be looking at a top 30 by time you get that laptop.

Well it's shipped out; I should have it late this coming week or 1st week in october for the latest. Unless all of Trinidad upgrades to SLI 780s or something in the next two weeks XD

Not Alienware and not Razer. Razer is a medium range gaming machine at best. I don't suggest buying that for a primary gaming machine.

Don't worry, it's a secret ;). I shall simply come on one day and post the link XD.

*cracks knuckles* well I may be able to help if things are within range. Do you mind if people bring their own keyboards/mice for the PC testing portion? Also, what other testing outlets do you have in mind? And as well what would be the games played? Do we pick our own or are you testing a certain type of game (FPS, Racers, etc)?

36
Well I decided to not vote for the half-assedness or the bullshit this time. And most of what I played fell into that category. So my choices had to end up being MK9, KoF and LoL. Funny how they have some of the lowest votes yes.

Anybody from the West (diego martin side) goin up by that clearance sale? I need to get a new mouse; mine died on me last night. And taking taxi to/fro would end up costing about 1/3 of what I'd plan to pay for it.
