Mobile Phones & Gadgets / Re: Everything Android
« on: June 07, 2011, 03:52:56 PM »
Sorry if I'm just a little bit skittish about posting this stuff online.
Anyway, it won't be a new provider. Current providers have it in the works. New providers would take quite a while to get a network up and running, not just due to the regulatory requirements (which would also announce their arrival) but moreso from having to deploy the network. It's difficult now even for bmobile and Digicel to find a few new cell sites, for a new player to build scores is a different story.

Anyway, I don't know anything about a south american mobile company. Claro was in Jamaica, and that's America Movil which is Mexican. The rumours I've heard don't point to our potential third provider being south american, course those may just be one of many rumours.

As for the technology, Digicel uses Ericsson almost exclusively and have launched HSPA+ in Bermuda so if you assume a pattern for Digicel anyway it's not that big a mystery.

I won't say who'll be first to market but you can be sure that both sides have a fair idea what the other is doing and so even if one gets there first, the other won't lag that far behind, even from scratch you could rush a whole 3G overlay out in 6months or so.

I did get a PM asking about 4G. While HSPA+ does give "4G speeds" I doubt very much that anyone will be seeing LTE (which is true 4G) for at least a few years. Current 3G tech means that LTE can be swapped in with nothing but a software upgrade but I wouldn't hold my breath for it happening too soon.

Well that's downright cryptic there Exar. Is it that someone locally is close to deploying true mobile broadband directly to phones/tablets?

Pretty much.
Yeah I know I'm holding back details but I can't chance breaking my nondisclosure agreements by saying or implying too much.

I'm not really at liberty to go too much into detail, but believe me when I say that won't be happening this time.

I'd be wary of getting locked into a 2 year contract with this.
If someone comes along with legit 3G you'll be looking quite the fool walking around with this.

...but instead of forcing these 4g devices on people, why not give existing smartphone owners 'proper' 3g/4g services on their handsets, eh TSTT?

Well basically they can provide this device using their current WiMAX infrastructure. It basically works the same as blink on the go turbo technologically.
Phones generally don't use WiMAX though, so they can't provide the speed directly to the phone, hence the go between.

WiMAX is a 4G technology though, so their boast isn't inaccurate or anything by calling it 4G, certainly it's less of an exaggeration than the claims AT&T/Tmobile etc make in their ads now.

Providing actual 3G/4G requires major network upgrades, basically this is what they can do for people at the moment.

46
Have to say guy, I'm OVERWHELMED at the quantity of evidence you've provided to back up your claims.
I'm not too concerned with what you believe but I figured that maybe it'd be nice to post some actual evidence.

And anyone who takes creatine to get "pumped fast" probably isn't too bright. Their danger to themselves might be more the fact that they think crap like that than any inherent problem with the supplements.

47
If there is one thing I know about 'bodybuilding' and changing the way you look. You CAN use those creatine supplements and shit BUT none of those things are evaluated by the FDA..
They are VERY hard on your liver and eating a reasonably balanced diet
can give you ALL the stuff your body needs to create and maintain the look you want.

Pls go.
There are literally dozens of studies on creatine, it's safe as hell. The way some people talk about creatine you'd think it was some kind of PH.
Whole foods are better than any supplement, but it isn't even close to practical to get enough creatine from food as from a supplement (y helo thar 5lbs of meat per day). You'd also end up eating a hell of a lot of food to be getting the proper protein intake, which would probably put you over your calorie requirements anyway.

In conclusion, take no nutritional advice from this gentleman.

48
There is some wisdom to a crowd. (and these peeps are a pretty hard core crowd, lol)

Not necessarily. There's quite a lot of crap that's popular on bb.com
Syntha 6 is good stuff for making regular protein shakes for any particular time. It has a good taste and everything. If you want to sub it for something else try Optimum Nitrocore 24.
If you go all out and subscribe to serious post workout nutrition then syntha 6 is less than optimal and you'd probably be better off with a straight whey protein. ON Gold Standard is good but it doesn't taste all that good, Myofusion is a good substitute for it if that bothers you.

its the same thing they did with carwin
they should have stopped it earlier but let him take lixs hoping he would recover
but he get done out quick fass
of course Fedor would have been wearing his beard for him.

No, Brock was intelligently defending himself against Carwin. Cain on the other hand was carefully picking his shots whereas Carwin was just teeing off like an idiot, not landing many of his shots properly and just tiring himself out.
Brock's issue is that he can't take a hit without panicking. The man has a chin made of iron but he goes into panic mode when someone tags him. Anyone Brock can take down and keep down is in serious trouble. But if he can't take them down he wilts under the pressure of a good stand up fighter.

Dos Santos gets the next shot. I'm not too interested in him or Cain tbh. I want Alistair to get back in there. He's the man that should truly take Fedor's crown and then rampage the UFC HW division.

If you've never seen the online documentaries on Alistair they're an excellent watch. Man is beast, best striker at HW bar none.

Anime / Re: THE NARUTO SHIPPUUDEN THREAD OMG!!!
« on: July 20, 2010, 08:09:45 PM »
I just recently got caught up with the anime.
WTF at episode 167. Filler yeah, but wtf at that filler. I was like O_o the whole time.
Also they seemed to have brought out the B-team to do the art and animation that episode.

Beyond that, the fight definitely turned out great. Can't wait to see how they animate the upcoming fights from the manga.

51
As much as it may pain Frank to admit it, that was a rookie mistake Brock is unlikely to repeat.

As for Fedor, blasphemy it may be, but I have no idea which way that could go. It seems to me the strategy he used against Mir in the second fight would work on Fedor. I've always assumed Fedor would simply light him up on the feet before that but nothing seems to put Brock down properly. I dunno if even Fedor's overhand right can do it, there's no way Fedor matches Carwin for power.

52
Yeah Brock doesn't like getting hit, and Mir was beating him in the stand up, but he was nowhere close to finishing him. Brock took a solid knee from Mir and didn't flinch, he took those hammering hands of Carwin and it didn't faze him. Sure he's getting outpointed on the feet, but who's going to last to a decision with him?

As for subs, idk who can sub him. His wrestling pedigree is first rate and I don't think any bjj player can best his brute force at wrestling. A talented wrestler might be able to deal with him on the ground but a pure jitz guy will get manhandled.
Cain is again likely going to light him up on the feet, but then he blitzed on the ground. Couture showed that a top flight wrestler can deal with him on the ground but I don't think Cain is on that level. Barnett maybe.

53
Carwin says his body seized up, that his cardio was fine. idk about that.

What I do know is that I don't know (heh) what the archetype is to beat Lesnar. That chin, calling it granite is an understatement. Everyone said Lesnar's elementary standup would leave him dead against a good striker. Well he took the hits. I just don't know. Could even Overeem drop him?

54
Very nicely done by Brock surviving that first round. I ain't mad at him this time around, he was very humble in victory and looks every bit the deserving champion.

55
Well keep in mind that Werdum is one of the best jiu jitsu players in MMA. He took the HW division at ADCC this year and was a former champion as well. Plus he was world BJJ champion.

56
This SCREWS Strikeforce now though. Fedor has one fight left on his contract. Who will he fight? Werdum has earned the shot against Overeem, Overeem can't fight Fedor coming off a loss for the title. There's no one for Fedor to take on. Unless it's a rematch.

Truly Fedor gave Werdum's bjj no respect. Understandable given how he tooled Nogueira but without a doubt Werdum was always on another level, best grappler at HW. If only Fedor had kept it standing I don't think there'd have been any doubt.

57
OMG...my head is spinning...Fedor subbed in less than a minute?!

I always like Netherlands, but if there's ever been a side that chokes...

England, despite the many players I like on the team, I'm always happy to see them lose. They're the very definition of a paper side. Plus the way the english press and public seem to think they're some kind of invincible behemoth makes it always fun to see them bawl and cry.

I think this is Argentina's year though. I've never been a supporter, but I really think this is their year. Only Maradonna can mess them up imo.
