YMCA Networking Charity
« on: April 20, 2005, 04:01:48 PM »
Guys,

The YMCA on Wrightson Road is in need of some technical assistance with their network.

12 PCs and an internet server.

BG has volunteered some of our IT staff to the cause. Got this heads up from Vernisha, our Service Delivery manager.

Many hands make light work, so any tech gurus from GATT who are willing to help with this worthy cause, let us know.

You'll get free lunch and drinks  for your efforts not to mention a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

The works are carded for this Sunday, 24th April 2005.

suhuweat!!!!! (granted, we can get the network working, lol)

Guys,

Sunday was a success! Pleased to report that the Y is now running like Castrol GTX 20W50 Synthetic lubricant (aka oil)

Problems Pwned.

The network was a mixed affair. 1 win95, 2 win98 and the rest, win2k.
Machine specs varied wildly (as did their look). Some sporting ISA cards, oh the horror!

That did not stop us though. A total purge of spyware and viruses idmc. Also, a defective cat5 cable was causing much grief and reducing the network/dsl speed to a crawl. Had to recrimp and rerun that through the roof. One stubborn machine refused to let us in. Hack password ihmc. We would not be denied! lol

Work finished 6PM sharp.

Nuff food and drinks iwmc, KFC Fiesta to craw. A good experience.

Some follow up action is on the cards. First of which is getting those win98 boxes up to win2k/winxp. The win95 box could find a home in the labasse. Serious dinosaur. lol

Lessons learnt,

Jade Falcon clan members can't jump but don't give them many chances from the 3 point line.

As we say, good charity, charity  buss, good charity
