Arcmanov's rig evolves...
« on: June 25, 2007, 11:55:33 AM »
I present to you, for scrutiny, my current benchmark scores at 3.24 GHz.  All benchies were run at 1280 x 1024 screen resolution.
OC was achieved by adjusting the DRAM:FSB ratio to 1:1 and applying a slight increase to DDR and CPU vcore voltages.
Chipset voltages were kept at default.

Video-card OC was achieved using Rivatuner, and verified by running looping tests of 3DMark 06.

'Arcman - Advanced'  (aka A2)

Specs: Asus P5W-DH Deluxe motherboard
           Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (OC'ed to 3.24 GHz)
           2 x 1 GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 RAM (5-5-5-12)
           BFG 8800 GTS OC video-card (OC'ed to 630 MHz core/1900 MHz memory)

3DMark 06 scores:

Overall           = 10025

SM 2.0            = 4819
HDR/SM 3.0      = 4131
CPU                = 2523

I do believe this is the first rig on GATT to break the 10K mark in 3DMark06. Good job!

NEW benchies b1tches!!!   :happy0203:

abit IP35-Pro motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz

BFG 8800 GTS OC 320 MB (stock mem/core)
2 x 1GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 RAM (5-5-5-18)

3DMark05                  3DMark06

Interestingly, with all parameters at stock, the 3DMark06 result is just a few marks above that of the significantly OC'ed E6600 and GPU.
Of course I'll experiment with some OC'ing with this beast.  13K?  We shall see...

Well, this is the highest stable OC I can achieve with my current HSF.  I think I'm going to need (dare I say it)
a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme.

Anything higher and the PC will boot, and Windows will start, but anything CPU intensive causes the system to reboot.
Its not enough to retake the crown, but its a good indication of what the Core 2 Quad is capable of OC-wise.  Of course it is NO match
for the E4000 series, as demonstrated by the good Captain.

To Seecarr11, I'm VERY perplexed that I still can't beat that score with my CPU at 3.3 GHz and yours at 2.8 GHz, AND my GPU is OC'ed all to hell (and yours is at 'stock').

Good lord, check that CPU score. Indeed, im perplexed just as Arc is how his score isnt that much different from Seecarr's own, even at such a high OC. Leads me to think that the CPU is no longer the bottleneck, however the card has now taken its place in that position. I can't help but think that some higher mem/gpu clocks will push the score up.

Hmmm, I was thinking the exact same thing.  It seems that I've been pwnt by a superior graphics card.  Or, could it be that Nvidia
cards are that much more efficient on an Nvidia chipset than on an Intel one?  Unfortunately, I'm at my video card's max at 630/950.

Anyway, at 12027, I'm back at 2nd place.  :happy0203:

Hmmmm OC on the CPU but none on the card. Very nice. Try ramping up the card, should be able to pass 14k.

Arcman you buy new parts every 2 weeks?? Congrats on the score.

8800 GT not looking bad price wise and performance wise but I think i might wait for the 9800.

:laughing7:  Nah, my last major system upgrade is when I migrated to the Core 2 Duo platform in April 2007.
I usually upgrade every 10 months or so, but sometimes if I'm getting a deal on a part, I'll go for it.

As for the score, no congrats are necessary, thats what the GT was made for, so that result is expected.

With the OC settings a very respectable 30-35 fps at 1440 x 900 is what I've observed,
and thats with all settings on high, with 2 x AA.  With AA off, the frame rate jumps to
about 65 fps.  I guess its safe to say that this card, while not exactly 'wining up' on Crysis,
certainly does quite a respectable job performance-wise.

OK, check this out:

Board:     Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe
CPU:       AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 'Black Edition'     - OC'ed to 3 GHz
RAM:       2 x 1 GB Corsair XMS2 DDR-800                    - 5-5-5-12
GPU:       BFG 8800 GTS OC 320 MB                            - OC'ed to 630 Mhz core/1500 MHz shader/1900 MHz memory

This CPU is a real nice OC'er.  Highly recommended if upgrading.
OC was achieved by simply upping the BIOS multiplier, using a base
frequency of 200 MHz.

Of course the benefits of a CPU with an unlocked multiplier are immediately apparent.
There was no need to change the CPU voltage, which means that the corresponding
rise in heat is almost negated.  This translates into even more OC'ing headroom
than traditional FSB changes.  Even when instability becomes a factor a simple core
voltage change is needed to smooth things along.  I could have gone further to
3.2, or even 3.4 GHz, but the HSF may not permit it.
