Ok so i've finished my document for Midrange Intel System. Its an 8 page word document that gives the reader a general feel for the individual part and why it was chosen.

So where do we go from here?

excellent work

What if we follow the format of other top tech sites (tomshardware, anandtech, etc...) and put them in html Pages 1,2,3 style.

Should be easy enough to do with the cms.

lol, of course I read the first page crixx, I posted earlier on in this thread remember?

what I'm talkin about is regular html type pages instead of forum posts for the final document.

givin a lil more flexibility in say the positioning of images and performance charts in the middle of the article and referencing across pages (Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, Summary/Conclusion)

That's the format similarity to anandtech/firingsquad I was referring too.

makes sense? or too much work?

The forum post option is of course ridiculously easier and a no brainer but may not look as professional nor be as accessible to the public. A shame for such great work imho.

Ok then if we talking HTML that would mean uploading to a server and getting a website etc then....Lets talk about this nah I don't mind doing the work its a nice project.

Performance charts? lol yes that's a LOT more work because for each category you have to have data concerning performance for EACH part. I don't think that would make much sense for a guide. That would just make things more complicated than they have to be.

Just keep pitching the ideas and lets see what comes out.

Found a nice article here that speaks to the heart of this thread.
Its basically a list of parts catergorised as Dream System, High End, Mid Range, and Budget.  There is no separation between manufacturers here.

This is exactly the type of format we can adopt.  It can be updated regularly as prices and availability change.

Whilst like many initiatives that start off 'hot and sweaty' and seem to fizzle before they really get off the ground (I myself am quite guilty in that regard) I have however stumbled across something that not only fits this thread nicely but goes as far as to even DO THE WORK FOR US. It's from a respectable review site and is nothing short of brilliant imho. In FACT, it's SO user friendly that it EVEN provides links to a FULL CHECK OUT BASKET on newegg.com with ALL the components they suggest. They have 3 price ranges 500, 1000 and 1500USD and in EACH category they give a primary system and an alternative which effectively works out to the Intel offering as primary and the AMD offering as secondary. So without further ado feast you eyes:

http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/14225/7

Based on the fact that it's the February review I am led to believe they update it quarterly if not more frequently. Also it not only covers main components of the tower. It also covers the 'MONEY is NO PROBLEM' workstation or 'doublestuffed' rig and it also has OS options, peripheral options... its quite encompassing.

Hmm, this is pretty good too. Very nice format and simple. Kind of close to Arcs.

Both can do the job.

What are you suggesting? Abandoning the local effort and just using their recommendations carte blanche?

No, it isn't updated frequently enough for us to do that, and if we could get local pricing into our version, that would be MUCH more practical for our viewers. It is however a nice reference and gives some direction.
