Wow. No double click to open single file functionality? *raises eyebrow* Hell... WMP/ITUNES/WINAMP/FOOBAR do that...why would they not have that option?

what are you talking about??

double clicking a song WITHIN song bird to play it? of course you can do that
double clicking songs in the folders to launch the song in songbird, yeah if songbird is the associated player for those file types it will work that way.

Yes. The latter. Exactly. It is currently the associated type for my files...and it ain't doing that. Program opens and song is not played. I'm going to install again. Something clearly went wrong.

i was gonna make a new thread but as this already dealing with free software and it has had recent activity i just though i would stick it in here.

I had seen this app like ages ago but only today i tried it.

Windows SteadyState

Microsoft won an internets from me for this, for those in corporate environments you may have run across Faronics' Deep Freeze program.

K, well Windows SteadyState is like that on a diet and so easy to implement my sister could do it.

i was impressed enough by it to give it a heads up.

at first i was like...'ok so it just uninstall/stop installs/just monitor some folders to prevent malicious shit...woop the freakin' do..

oh no no no...

this thing is going right to the root. i deleted as much application and system files i could, NTDLR, messenger, Antivirus one setta thing from the windows folder, even the steady state application itself, on shut down it put a nice lil dialog asking if 'I man' wha save changes or not, i clicky the 'nah boss' one and restart and bam back to the last state.

Just outta curiosity i did the deletions again but this time just take it off no shut down, all it did was give the usually, choose a boot option (Last known good nuh) and back to state.

I recommend this to ppl who wanna use their PC and maybe perform changes, install software, install things of dubious natures, use software that insecure like whoa *cough*IE*cough* etc. that might have unpredictable results

gonna be a staple for me now.

if you know bout this already, all i have to ask is why yuh stick?

PS: Windows only - Desktop OS only (xp/vista)

lol @ won internets.

program sounds excellent. Used Faronics Deepfreeze before. That thing was industrial strength. Saved us many a time in the GLs.

If it's anything like that, definitely gets my vote. Bulletproof your PC.

lol @ no 64 bit. Serves you right for going 64 bit.

I asked this in another thread but what benefits have you gleaned by making the move to 64?

hmm song bird gets one more ++++ to their sword of 1k truths for this add on

seeqpod

allows you to search for tunes online from within the program i think its some sort of user hosted scenario and mostly you just stream the music
but you can also download, there are lots of live performances to songs available, so if you like those then yayz for you.

Even workz behind cor poor8 firewall so double ++ there

well ram idle le used to be particularly usefull for allowing you to dump poorly allocated memory to free up space for apps that needed it.

But with 8 gigs of ram thats no where near a problem for me.

Ram idle also gave a really nice breakdown of what is utilising your memory.

Unfortunately it doesnt seem to work in vista 64.

Currently my machine at home is using 5.3 gigs of ram, i dont mind, since iam hoping its going to my fah cores, i set some pretty steep ram usage parameters before but they never seemed to actually use up the ram i set aside for them, but now i think it is, i just wanna be sure.

so you looking for an app that gives more intimate knowledge of what your ram being used for?

out of curiosity the 8GB how well it working out?

im considering moving to 8GB but i am of 2 minds.

Would it be possible for you to gauge the percentage increase over 4GB? I mean how does it compare in your XP?

KillCopy also doesn't seem to like Vista64

Anyone got any alternatives available for 64-bit?

it honestly runs far more buttery than xp @ 4gb

with maximum eye candy engaged

and i can tab between dow2 mass effect music guildwars warcraft
and never worry about sticking. of course the quaddy plays a big part in that, but i never have to worry bout loading and unloading between tabs. Great stuff anddd i can run vms like a breaze same time.

8 -12 gigs or bust.

lol imagine that, i doh even turn off apps and games anymore. just leave dem minimized

also
perfmon is actually very usefull in vista, unlike xp.

its good, but not great
like ram idle... sigh

I have a new one to add, for those not wanting to purchase or 'acquire' MS Visio:

Quote
Dia is roughly inspired by the commercial Windows program ‘Visio’, though more geared towards informal diagrams for casual use. It can be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and many other diagrams. It is also possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG to draw the shape.

It can load and save diagrams to a custom XML format (gzipped by default, to save space), can export diagrams to a number of formats, including EPS, SVG, XFIG, WMF and PNG, and can print diagrams (including ones that span multiple pages).

Ok here is my 2cents i did not see it posted here but i think this is one of or if not the best zip/compression utility out there.

IZarc: totally free and supports all and i mean ALL compression formats out there, it does 7z, zip, rar and it even can open those pesky ISO and MDS files and even run the contents...no need for a virtual drive to execute small files in an ISO...mind you i said small files, large files like installers take to long.

But again check it out i'm sure you all will like it.
