The Official Sim Racing Thread
« on: September 29, 2009, 10:11:51 PM »
It has come to my attention that many of you are not very knowledgeable when it comes to the number of high quality simulation racers available for the PC. As a result, I have taken it upon myself to create a thread where one can share their experiences, post videos or give more information on available and forthcoming titles. I'll start off with some vids and review links......

.......Oh, and I just had to post some vids of ppl playing using a racing wheel. Best way to play these types of games.

Only now saw the thread... damn show latest thread button... that aside, where's the Dirt and others? This is a 'bad habit' i've developed where if a games doesn't immediately draw my attention visually I hardly notice it. The aforementioned games look... dare I say 2006 with very drab environements, flat backgrounsd and dull textures. Give me the eye candy!!!

well, fancy graphics aren't what makes a sim racer. it's all about the physics and handling of the vehicles and to a lesser extent, the accurate representations of the tracks said vehicles are being run on. so the graphics in the above titles aren't "state of the art", especially when compared to games like GRID and NFS Shift, but as far as sim accuracy goes, they outclass their competitors. plus, Dirt and GRID aren't even sims, so they don't belong in this thread anyways.

well if is graphics ur lookin for, there's.....

Race On

RACE On - WTCC 2008 Okayama

RACE On - Formula Master showcase

and STCC The Game

STCC - The Game (extended trailer)

Race On doesn't come out till next month or so though. Remember, these games have smaller, lesser financed developers working on them. Unlike EA and Codemasters. They have the papers to shell out on larger teams and for development of high-end game engines.

LOL @ 'testing'...  Exactly how much have you spent on actual games in the last 3 years?

I'll give this one a 'whirl'.  If it stacks up better than NFS:Shift then I wont bother to reinstall that.

Well let me tell you...'testing' has yielded some great results yo.
This game (Race On) is BADD-AZZ, but be warned, its not on the same graphical level
as GRiD or NFS Shift, but LAWD, the physics model is right up there in sim territory.

I guess it goes without saying that you need a VERY good controller (minimum) to even attempt to play this one.

Yeah boi. The game sweet too bad, but just as I got it, I decided to give NFS Shift another try. Been hooked ever since. lol. I'll wait till I get a racing wheel before playing Race On. Again, very, very good game.
