Epic have just released this amazing tech demo for the upcoming Gears of War 3. A lot of information is still in the air and we have no clue as to when the third game in the premium franchise will be released. At GDC, Epic showed various demonstrations of their updated Unreal Engine. One of those was the tech demo for Gears of War 3. The video is pretty short but it shows the level of detail that one can expect from a Gears of War game. The footage shows a Brumak roaring through a jungle.

Also as reported by Kotaku, Epic Games vice president Mark Rein, referring to a demo showing a blob of liquid metal, asked the audience at GDC: “Remember last year we had the meat cube? …This is the mercury cube”

Another demo showed what the updated Unreal Engine was really capable of. An Epic representative playing a demo, quickly zipped through a city, indicating how quickly the buidlings and the huge city can be easily rendered by the engine.

Mark Rein added: “One day we’ll show you what we’re doing with this. When you see what we’re doing with this, it’s going to blow your mind.”

It shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Gears of War 3 is in development at Epic Games. The first two games were tremendously successful and the story in Gears 2 (pictured above) was clearly set up for a third game. But until now, we had no idea when we could expect it to come. According to Edge, a "trusted US publishing source" has told them that Gears 3 is expected to be released in April 2011, with a debut trailer set to hit next month, on April 8. Edge also claims that we'll then see a full reveal of the game at this year's E3 in June. Epic VP Mark Rein confirmed at last week's Game Developers Conference that Epic wouldn't be releasing any games this year, which helps to corroborate what Edge's source is claiming.

The source explained Microsoft's reason for abandoning the traditional November release that the first two games followed: "Microsoft's keen to avoid a clash with Halo: Reach and wants Natal to own Christmas. That's why we won't be seeing Gears of War 3 until next year, but expect a major marketing push ahead of its release."

We've heard that the next Killzone game, Killzone 3, is scheduled for a release in the same time frame as Gears of War 3 next year, so it looks like the two heavy hitters will be going head-to-head in about a year from now. Last time around, Killzone 2's release trailed Gears 2's by about four months.

If the source pans out, we're only a few weeks away from our first look at Gears 3, and the full reveal at E3 would then be less than three months away.

Killzone on it's best day want nothing with Gears, i don't see how they going to be going "head to head"

For even a blind dead man he can see Killzone 2 was a rip off from Gears

plz go into details on why u think kz2 on its best day want nothing with Gears....i would love to hear it and gladly counter it.

kz2 online was almost perfect.
in game clan challenges and tournament support where u can wager points against other clans or set an entrance fee to enter a tourney and the top 3 teams get points according to how many teams in d tourney.

0 lag

only problem with kz2 was the assault class and the engineer class turrets

Killzone 2 a ripoff of Gears?? If you said Uncharted I could more understand as Uncharted is a cross between Gears and Tomb Raider, though I still wouldn't call it a ripoff. Look at Quantum Theory there is a ripoff. Don't know why they really saying KZ3 and GeOW3 going head to head since one is a PS3 exclusive and the other is a 360 exclusive.

There's rumor that Gears of War 3 will intoduce underwater battle scenes and mech suits. All that is fine and dandy panzy but I just wanna know what will be new with the multiplayer cause that's where the meat of this game is.

Cliffy B. was on Late Night, April 8th 2011 release on Gears of War 3!! They previewed the first trailer for Gears of War 3 and it looks KICK ASS!!! Entitled "Ashes to Ashes" we finally get a FEMALE character to blaze the locusts with...can't wait! WOOHOOO!!!!

Looks like a new enemy has emerged called the "Lament"? Hmm, I wonder if the Locust will decide to join forces...kinda reminds me of Halo and the Elites joining forces with Master Chief to take out the Flood...hmmmm....we'll see I guess...either way looks promising.
