Nvidia GTX 5xx

Nobody will be too shocked to hear NVIDIA expects its next flagship GPU to be the fastest that’s ever been, but few will have guessed it’d also be one of the company’s coolest and quietest. In the first public teasing of its next-gen graphics card (which is almost certain to bear the GeForce GTX 580 name tag), NVIDIA has revealed a new vapor chamber cooling system, which reminds us of Shuttle‘s ICE CPU cooler — basically, water sealed within the chamber gets boiled by the hot elements (a copper plate in NVIDIA’s case), which forces it to transfer heat away to the bits that are being cooled by the fan, where it chills out and recycles itself back to the boiling plate.

Sadly, that indicates that it will run HOT to begin with to need an exotic cooling solution... *sighs*

I was looking to see what the power draw and idle/load temps were  for this GTX 580 but that bastards disabled the card from idling in furmark......well so Tom says.

He did some comparisons to give an idea of the power consumption (of course it's higher than a Gtx 480) but hopefully some real figures come to light.

These things seem to be beastly in Sli.....but oh the horror of all the lights in your house dimming when you start up your pc......

Is it me or are they getting ridiculous with these cards i.e. power draw + heat  :shakehead:

Here's the somewhat of a review, minus definite temps and power consumption

Looking at the benchmarks in that review they.
I not impressed with d 580.
2 6850 going for 400$ on amazon right now.

And outperforming d 580, @ less power draw and less heat, and less noise, for less money :S

muchless fuh d 6870, den 6970 , den 6990.

Well we all know amd is always cooler and more power efficient than nvidia. I for one will be sticking to one card with bang for buck....

Yes two amd cards usually outperform one nvidia card quite efficiently(power+heatwise). Please note I am ALWAYS focusing on ONE card here lol.

The hit and miss with amd drivers keeping me on the green team for now. I still love them as there won't be any price wars if either went belly up. Gotta love competition.

Oh and found a lil better review here http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2010/11/09/nvidia-geforce-gtx-580-review/1

Engadget have ah host of reviews from differnet sites:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/09/nvidia-geforce-gtx-580-reviewed-what-the-gtx-480-should-have-b/

so have your fill. But few directly comparing the 580 against d 6000 series, which is what i most interested in.

I saw them, the 580 aint go be able to handle the 6 series, cause we only seeing the 6850 and 6970's but I hadda give Nvidia an A for effort :P

These fricking cards still drawin too much pissin power though.....jeez man

Yea, that review u sent there, i now check it out.

D 580 getin it ass, jus to beat my 1 year old 5970.
And stil drawing more power? nah man, dat not right.

6970 and 6990 go wax dat ass.

A for effort in deed, much better job dan d 480.
But, like one review said, its what d 480 SHOULD have been.
Little too late, AMD done have ah running head start.

Yea compition is always good.
When i read the headline "580, what the 480 should have been", i get excited, i have no problems jumpin ship to d green team, no loyaltees, but when i get down into d nitty gritt of things, i realise, it was ah waste of time. Unfortunately given Nvidia's track record pass couple years, they dont have nothing to pull out dey ass, dat 580 is d best dey could do, until dis time next year.

Have to agree with Philo here.  I too expected somewhat of a whitewash of the competition, but here you have the 580 being outperformed by two 6870s and even two 460s, which cost much, much less.  The value proposition just aint there.

Still, I have to give Nvidia kudos for successfully improving and refining Fermi
to this point, but it seems like they still playing catch-up.  AMD must be rubbing their hands in anticipation of their upcoming Cayman release.  That one might very well be the 'bitch-slap' that Philo was looking for here.  :laughing7:

Men playing so much cod they eh notice the GTX580 actually release and is actually available!

What all the naysayers have to say now? I still say at that price, 2 460's or 6870's are much better value for performance...at over $100us less!!

Check a review. So who getting one...or two?
