Changing IP Address....
« on: January 22, 2011, 10:34:59 AM »
Does anyone know how to change there IP Address? The one designated by the ISP. Can one call Flow to have it changed? I thought disconnecting the modem and removing the battery for a few hours would have worked, but it doesn't. :(

technically takin out the battery and all that would work
except the lease time of flows I.Ps is in days and not hours.

If you want to be able to change your ip often, get dial up, lol.

IF you want to change your ip to avoid some region cap or region blocking

there are numerous threads here on the best procedures to get that done.

well, ummm, my IP got banned from a torrent site.  :ko: So that's why I want it changed.

I doubt VPN software would be useful here. Do ISPs usually change IPs automatically?

Like once a month or something?

Flow won't change your IP 'jus so'.  They give you a specific IP so they can keep tabs on you...and I'm very serious.  My current supervisor used to work at Flow, and confirmed this.

Now and again, your IP might change, but its totally up to Flow.

I don't think it will hurt to give em a call and ask.  Good luck with that though.
Their legendary customer service might have you on hold for a while.

lol aye aye
alyuh two haters step away from the flow comments
lol

no seriously, the lease time is a few days, checked it myself

so if you disconnect for a few days, and wait for the ip to go back in the pool and get reassigned, then you can get a new one

but you could try a proxy service, if its a good one, it should work.

So disconnecting for 5 days should be enough? Or not so much?

Use the MAC Address Clone option in your router if you have one

Use the MAC Address Clone option in your router if you have one

Flow assigns that address to the modem, so you might really have to disconnect for a 5 days and see if you get a different address.

...but if I know you, that'll be as easy as teaching a German Shepard german.  :laughing7:

When using p2p apps I suggest you use peerblock, that way you lessen the chance of being blacklisted for sharing.... 'content'

it's the majority of my movie collection on hard drives. 480p to 1080p rips. there's a plugin for xbmc that lists everything automatically online. over 300 of them not detecting though. only movies found on TMDB shows up unfortunately.

you have to manually change it  using flows dns server

do a ipconfig/all in command prompt and get the ip address u have and change the last digits of the IP address u can leave the default gatway as is

and use this dns servers
1.)dns preferred server: 200.1.104.35
2.)dns preferred server: 200.1.104.36

and note:- if u get a ip conflict keep changing it.  that happens when someone is already using that ip address

i don't think it works like that well unless you can do it at the router lvl i.e. a linux/unix based firmware with the ability to modify /etc/config/network with a static ip and i am not sure it will actually work as the ip chosen may already be registered. The easy way would be to use a proxy or vpn as that will become the initiator of contact between you and the server, but note that your bandwidth will be decreased significantly.
