The End for BlackBerry?
« on: January 03, 2012, 07:52:35 PM »
It has been a hot topic in our various chat groups of recent.

Is this the end for BlackBerry?

The once unstoppable mobile platform is in some serious trouble.

Take a look at its stock. (see attached)

The Playbook sold dismally and the attack is coming on strong from Apple and Android in its many forms.

Now shareholders are calling for heads to roll:

http://www.smh.com.au/it-pro/business-it/rim-close-to-stripping-ceos-of-chairmanship-report-20120104-1pk6q.html

Things do not looking promising.

Can they make a comeback?

Now a MicroRimKia could be interesting.

A Captain Planet / Voltron Force attack on Android and Iphone.

By their powers combined......in a strange way, it actually makes sense.

If Corporate jumps ship to WP7, I might have one of these in the not too distant future

That would be interesting cause they're dropping market share like there's no tomorrow!!

Blackberry has just a couple things going for them.

1) Their enterprise management solution is the best i've come across so far

2) Masses of people are still hopelessly lovestruck with BBM, (though the number is dwindling quickly, thankfully)

They are hoping that BBX turns the ship around and as such most likely wont sell to anyone until after then. Sadly, it isnt due out until late 2012 at which point they would have lost too much market share to make a comeback.

Whoever buys them will cannibalise the operation and RIM/Blackberry would probably go down the same road that PALM did: shot once in the thigh and left in a lonely alley to (slowly) bleed to death.

I cant wait to format c: on our BES server and manage a REAL smartphone eco system.

LOL @ 'format c:'  :laughing7:

Now that my employers are so dependent on the BB ecosystem, I'll wonder how they'll adapt to a defunct RIM in the future?

Even money tells me they'll adopt WP7.  I guess its OK enough for a 'work' phone.

hard lol @ format C:

Palm was my first love and  I was sorry to see them go.

Must admit, that aside from the dismal web browsing experience, the BlackBerry Bold does everything I need in a phone. Strong emphasis on "need", not want.

As the world becomes more and more web centric, that poor internet experience will be a deal breaker for many.

From all accounts online you are right. They are counting on BlackBerry 10 to bring them back into the game. That will be a herculean task.

and with the share price as low as it is.....I don't know if they can last till late 2012. That release date should have been Q1.

BES bess, but more and more ppl rolling into companies with iphones and asking for it to be setup on exchange, Men rejecting company provided BBs and rolling iphone oui.

And BBM mite be huge in Trini / Caribbean, but in the US its gone to shit. So not even that saving them.

I juss want MS to buy BES tech, BBM and RIM network, integrate bes into exchange, integrate bbm into wp messaging hub, and leverage the rim network to get better roaming fees. Then is GG.

More nails being "pong" in RIM's coffin.

How long can the BlackBerry last against rampant industry speculation about their doom?

and the coffin flies open.

a fully animated walking dead zombie version of RIM emerges, wielding a winnner.

It is said to be only a concept

but if RIM delivers on this...along with BlackBerry 10....they are back in the game.

Hmm, I think your thoughts are premature! We have yet to see the new bb OS in action.

if they come through with that concept, it may help them stay relevant to the bb faithfuls, but if they want to gain dominance over Apple and the Android movement, i don't see how that's possible nah.

@w1ntry: hence the word "if"

Its no easy task, clawing back into the action after they've dug a whole this deep. Will take nothing short of a small miracle.

@philo, they may no longer have a shot at dominance...but relevance would be considered a win to keep their coffers flowing for some years to come.

The corporate market is nothing to sneeze at eh. $4k for a top tier blackberry bold and companies buy them by the hundreds.

lol wyatt is a bb faithfull allyuh.. dont believe what he says!!! lol

j/k

on a serious note doh... thing is with bb, when you put a sour taste in ppl mouth... it hard to get them back in favor with you... so this might actually be a harder battle than they thought, even if they do release a good device/os... alot of corporations already moved away from bb globally, remember things in trini does happen after time... so trini might still be strong on bb, but eventually we will follow suit.
