The Official Game Of Thrones Thread
« on: June 14, 2012, 08:02:07 AM »
I looked around but did not see a dedicated thread for this awesome series. Check out this interesting piece from  Season 1, George Bush head on a stake lol.....

http://www.deadline.com/2012/06/george-w-bushs-severed-head-spotted-in-game-of-thrones/

In a classic case of “What were they thinking?!,” scenes from the first season of HBO’s fantasy series Game Of Thrones featured the decapitated head of former President George W. Bush. The inappropriate prop use would’ve likely gone unnoticed if not for the series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss who drew attention to it on the Game Of Thrones Season One DVD boxed set when commenting on a scene from Episode 10 where the Bush head in a filthy long wig and covered with mud is one of many positioned on spikes when King Joffrey (Jack Gleason) takes Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) to show her the severed head of her father. “The last head on the left is George Bush,” the two say. “George Bush’s head appears in a couple of beheading scenes. It’s not a choice, it’s not a political statement. We just had to use whatever heads we had lying around.”

Read the article this morning lol.

I watched the 2 seasons but can't wait to find out what happened. Started the first book and half way through.

The are subtle differences between book and tv series but nothing major so far

Currently watching out Season 2 while reading book 2 Clash of Kings.

The first season was a truly remarkable translation of the first book,  the second season, not so much, but no less entertaining.

This is definitely a series I'm sticking with. Btw Tyrion is pretty imba.

Read an article the other day with some people questioning wether or not HBO can keep up with the production costs, hopefully they will.

awesome series. Its been mentioned in the TV Series thread but I agree, it is deserving of its very own.

Pity the thread was started after the season finished. lol

Won't have much to talk about for many months to come.

If anything will sink this series it's going to be production costs. I imagine they spent half their damn budget on the Blackwater, knowing the content of the next 3 books I can't imagine they can keep this up for long.
Rome was a fantastic show that had to be canceled because they couldn't keep the costs going, despite the show being partially subsidized.

Of course Martin could very well die before he finishes, regardless of what happens to the tv series I think the best odds are on this.

They could do like Walking Dead and film an entire season in a house by a farm to cut costs.

dan, that bush head thing was so much bollocks.. u really have nothing to fucking do to pick that out of the heads on the wall.
However, it does worry me that they keep cutting scenes purely for economy . the blackwater scene was COMPLETELY different in the book. like.. obscenely so..
It still looked awesome, but u cant keep half-assing such a brilliant book..
Peter dinklage can only carry it so far...

That's unavoidable. The sheer scale of blackwater is such that HBO could never afford to do it. In a perfect world that episode would look like the siege in Kingdom of Heaven but spending tens of millions of a proper recreation isn't just out of HBO's reach, it's out of any TV network's reach.

Yeah, they may have to save that sort of budget for a movie trilogy adaptation like Lord of The Rings
