The Official "Rate Last Game Completed" Thread
« on: December 03, 2012, 02:02:18 PM »
Today, with the launch of this, the Official "Rate Last Game Completed" thread, an endeavor is put forth to finish the fight. To run through as many of the titles owned in your steam inventory or otherwise (Origin, Amazon Digital, Battlenet, Apple Store, Android PlayStore, XBOX live, PSN, Nintendo's Network, etc.....)

Premise is simple.

Complete the game.

Post your rating here (Out of 10) with a few lines.

My gaming collection is huge. Humongous even. Conversely the list of games I've completed (especially of recent) is small.

Embarrassingly so.

For the burgeoning digital stockpile, I blame those epic Steam sales and Berserk's uncanny ability to keep us all abreast of same.

For the languishing completion list, I blame Dota 2.

That game single-handedly monopolized 99% of my gaming time.

No more!

Let me offer the first rating:

Halo 4

Rating 10/10

Absolute blast. Non stop action, epic storyline. Immersed myself in the Halo lore before starting this and it did not disappoint. The game was relatively short...about 6 - 8 hours to complete but what they lacked in longevity they made up for in quality. Amazing the kind of graphics the aging xbox 360 is still capable of.

Halo 4 doesn't stray too far from the winning formula of its predecessors and being a fan of them all....that's not a complaint. Played this through with a XIM Edge (keyboard & mouse adapter). Worked smooth and without a hitch. Can't wait for Halo 5 on the Xbox 720. Sold.

Last Game Completed - Call of Duty Black Ops 2

Rating 7.5/10

Starts off fairly mediocre, has some nifty new features like strike force missions, various ingame choices that have a pretty impressive effect on the endgame (5 fairly different endings according to how you play) And my word the ability to mod your guns and those delicious futuristic weapons yum!

Some parts felt bland and uninspired while others were sheer genius. Was definitely a fun ride, picked up particularly well halfway through, and it really is amazing how little things affected how things turned out.  (Only found out how my choices changed stuff via youtube mind you)

And those endings. Wow. You have to experience them. I must say I was satisfied with these endings. Work was put into this plot, and it shows.

One thing though, this game could feel like 'whack a mole' at some points, standard Cod fair. The new innovations helped it feel more than the standard generic fps, but the game engine needs an overhaul. Badly.

However after dabbling in Far Cry 3, this feels like a long distant memory, that won't resonate in the least. GG.

I'll bite.

Last completed was Mark of the Ninja. Have a fairly sizeable backlog to get through but I couldn't put this one among them. Thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish, my only problem was that I couldn't run it higher than my laptop's native 1366 X 768.

Beautifully executed marriage of art style and mechanics, I'm gonna wait till I am able to run it in all its max resolution glory to go through new game plus difficulty. Loved it so much I replayed a few levels just to get a no-kills/no-detection rating.

Bonus points for branched endings, though both somewhat predictable to the attentive player. (solved the good ending first try :D)

Would buy in a heartbeat if it came to PSN.

Edit: Sorry about forgetting the rating. Personal 10/10 for me.

lol, starting isn't the problem.

Is going the distance....finishing the games. That's the challenge.

:laughing6:  Oh, you...

Ah boy Metro 2033...one of the few games that really nailed the 'dark and creepy'.
That game will give you nightmares if you're prone to that sort of thing.

One of the better games I've finished.

A solid 9 out of 10, for a great story and atmosphere.

Can't wait for Metro: Last Light.

...and let me add Dead Space 2.
One of the finest action/survival-horror titles I've played.   Relentless action, and a solid expansion of the Dead Space franchise.

9 out of 10 for that too.

Eagerly awaiting Dead Space 3.

does a single DOTA 2 game count? XD

Splinter Cell Conviction was the last game i was able to sit down and play out. Both SP and MP. Was pretty good actually. Give it an overall 8/10. For $5 US, was worth it.

Didn't finish max payne 3 nor la noire yet tho... should work on that...

Lol. It is amazing the level of discipline required to complete a game with dota 2 competing for your time.

I feel your pain virtue. Really do.

Nice heads up on splinter cell. Will look out for it at that price. Can't go wrong for $5.00

Bulletstorm - 8.7/10 - pleasant surprise this one. Extremely enjoyable
God of war 3 - 9/10 - Action packed, nice addition to the franchise. Kratos always rocks.
Rage - 8/10 - (Would have been a 9 if the ending was better, but quite frankly it sucked egg)

Borderlands 2 - Beast out main, Beast our pirates DLC, Beasting out PT2, and going to beast out Torgue's DLC. When played in COOP, a solid 9.5/10.

Impressive list.

Totally agreed @ Borderlands 2 and God of War 3. 9 out of 10 easily.

Still need to work through my backlog before I can offer a view on the rest you listed.

Hmm so we going through this year eh

1. Fear 3, played in Co op with reaper, one of the rare PC games with a campaign built for co op. real fun, decent scares, 8/10

2. Gears of War 3, beat in Co op with Warone. really can't say anything negative about this game aside of the fact that it on xbox 360 only. it lose a point for that. 9/10

3. Uncharted 3, honestly was disappointed by the sloppy last quarter of this. felt lazy. otherwise was a very solid game. 8/10

4. LA Noire, original, extremely high production values, in regards to voice acting, and visuals, and exceptional story. It tried some experiments in game design, with the interrogations and the investigating the crime scene. Decent enough for the sheer originality, but it loses points for repetition. 7.5/10

5. Alan Wake. Man o man did i enjoy this. Although it had repetition, i just loved the atmosphere, the visuals and the easy to jump into but challenging where necessary kinda gameplay. The Dlc is a requirement to finish off the story. solid 9/10

6. Mass Effect 3 story was well done, good action, epic scale, high production values. Everyone knows I wasn't a fan of the endings, but Im content with Bioware's resolution of that scenario. Only thing is the game didn't feel revolutionary. kinda forgettable once I finished with it. 8/10

7. Grand Theft Auto Librerty City. Lost and the dammed was boooring. Gay Tony was epic. package gets 8/10

8. Transformers Fall of Cybertron. This was a love letter to Transformers fans pure and simple. attention to source material, great visuals, enhanced gameplay and a serviceable multi rounded out a pretty solid package. At first I hated the lack of a Co op campaign, but the way the story flowed showed me that that wasn't a necessity, the tales told required a single player experience. Game was epic and a really fun ride from beginning to end. GG 8/10

9. Max Payne 3 - Im a massive max payne fan so I might be biased. But the action in this was really well done.Story was engaging, never boring, kept the max payne flavor, while bringing it into a whole new environment. Impressive visuals really rounded off a really enjoyable (and VIOLENT) gaming experience. n.b play this on a PC. 9/10

10. Sleeping Dogs. One of my favs for the year. Personally love Kung fu, so seeing a fight system so well done, while combining it with an engaging story, solid visuals, epic epic soundtrack, and open sandbox world, made this my personal favorite for the year. (so far)Hell I want the dlc for this, and im someone who hardly if ever plays dlc. 9.5/10

11. Borderlands 2 - Perfect Co op, decent visuals, far better story than original. improved upon original in every conceivable way. Only issue is once you done, you really not feelin to play it over. Have yet to touch the DLC. Co op is a requirement for enjoyment of this (imo) 8.5/10

12. Diablo 3 - bugs bugs bugs marred my experience of this, was heavily enjoying it at first, but it became stale after awhile, and that real money action house chased me very far away. (uninstalled and not reinstalling anytime soon)

Might have been others, but this is all I could remember for the last year and change.

Currently playing through Assassins Creed 3, Torchlight 2 and Far Cry 3, so I guess Ill update when completed.

Just completed TorchLight II

http://store.steampowered.com/app/200710/

An absolute riotous Diablo clone (and that is a good thing)

This dungeon crawler did what Diablo 3 couldn't....made me buy the game after playing the beta.....and what's more....completed it.

Rating: 9/10

1 point deducted for the anti climatic cut scenes. This is where Blizzard really shines. At the bargain basement price TorchLight 2 is selling for, they couldn't afford to include gorgeous CG videos to do the storytelling. Instead, we are treated to cartoons. Gets the job done but takes away from the experience.

The graphics are also cartoony but serviceable. The game really shines in the gameplay department. The mechanics are smart and fun. Very tight control scheme that keeps you slaughtering mob after mob of enemies with aplomb.

Took around 20 hours to finish.

Just Completed Saints Row: The Third.

After not loving the GTA franchise due to sheer frustration this was a great 'stress free' pickup and play game. Not recommended for kids. But as a working man, it was great to jump on, spend 20 mins creating havoc and enjoy the wild unpredictability and ludicrousness that is Saints Row.

Rating 8/10

It was just fun, didn't care much about the story line, I just had fun running and gunning. Perfect for what I wanted it for.
And for $6.00 US in a humble Bundle i eh vex at ALLL.

I'm surprised you finished it so quickly. Didn't you just start playing that the other day?

Going to add it to my play list as well. Probably going to take a crack @ Far Cry 3 next though. Been hearing too many good things.

*edit*

On second thought, I'll wait for that to go on sale yes. Hopefully there will be one for Christmas. That US$59.99 will burn a hole in my pocket. Spent sooo much $$ on games for the year already.

Assassins Creed 3 complete.

10/10

yea you read that right. Aside of the fact that the protagonists quest, drew some pretty interesting parallels to my favorite sci fi franchise (Star Wars ftw), the soundtrack, the visuals, and the fact that the world and the setting felt more alive than most other open world games just made this an absolutely fantastic and memorable game.
Funny thing is half way through this I would have given this a 7/10, but then I decided to start exploring the side missions, those add INCREDIBLE value to this game, rounding out a very very meaty package (those naval missions could be an entire game all its own) I just can't give this game anything lower than a 10.

And then that ending. (these guys really really did their homework with the story for this franchise)For anyone who has played the entire series and followed the story, well it was not what I was expecting. (and thats a good thing.)

And oh yea, did I mention the multiplayer is original and fun? and there is also co op?

Marble Saga

Rating: 9/10

Platform: Android

Move over Temple Run and Angry Birds. This has been my "go to" time waster on droid. 108 levels of frenetic marble madness.

Nice, polished graphics. Simple accessible gameplay. Low time commitment requirements per round. Throw in a few power ups (bomb, flame thrower, etc...) to appeal to the action gamer inside my soul and you've got a winner.

Got me through a lot of bank lines and barber shop ques. Completing this game was a bitter sweet victory.

Shank 2
8/10
A fun indie game, side scrolling hack n slash, good fun, hilarious storyline. Frustratingly hard at some places but overall a great challenging game (about 4 hours of playtime, more if you're an achievement junkie.)

I had a great time playing it. gratuitous violence in cartoon form
