I can play any game without a SERIOUS adlrenaline rush-but it helps though. I agree that rating onself is rather off, but it a way to asses your skills. To me, gaming is more of concentration and the ability to think clearly and quickly under a few seconds, solve problems and fizzle out distractions and yet: respond to an action just as quickly. Nice thread here Flippant-keep the brain food comming ^^

I just palyed a wide variety of games with my sis and this is how she rated me:

reaction time = 4
intuitive problem solving = 5 (from YEARS of zelda)
complex problem solving = 5 (Zelda again)
ability to keep track of multiple objects at once = 5 (stepmania thank u)
patience = 3 (jump in tooo much in fightin games)
curiousity = 4
concentration = 4
adrenaline threshhold = 2 (she says i have a stone face)

So i guess that makes me a cold blooded FPS killer. Okay.

Thanks Imperial, i hope my sister's analysis is accurate. It looks feasible as i do suck alot at console fighters, excel in FPS games, crash in sports games, LOVE RPG puzzlers and don't really get excited too much over games.

some good points about just wanting to enjoy the game:
due to some feedback i've received i am beginning to think that a number is deceptive as it belies RANGE. after some additional thinking, it may be better to express these things as ranges on 4 scales. so these would express what range of games you enjoy rather than trying to quanify your skill. where Y means presence and N means absence, and proximity has higher meaning

reaction-planning
intuitive problems - complex problems
calming-shocking
individual-social

so an ultra -gamer who loves ALL games would be:

Reac YYYYY Plan
Intu YYYYY Complex
Calm YYYYY Shock
Indi YYYYY Soci

and someone who only likes to play singleplayer Card Games would have
Reac NNNYY Plan
Intu YYNNN Complex
Calm YYNNN Shock
Indi YNNNN Soci

an average deathmatch FPS player woule be:
Reac YYNNN Plan
Intu YYNNN Complex
Calm NNNYY Shock
Indi NYYYN Soci

I suppose the type of game may depend on the person's personality, So what type of a gamer you are may simply explain what type of person that you may be.

So an Ultra Gamer may be an Extrovert who has an engaging personality and is well with people etc. And someone not so good May not necessarily be an extrovert, but rather someone who get's along okay in social relationships but either is not interested or doesn't get into the interactive levels that and extrovert/ultra gamer would.

This is my take on this. To me no person can really be an ULTRA gamer literally, you can't be perfect at everything ^^ But to add on to this-Not everyone likes the same thing-Different Strokes for different fokes, if you get my point...
