EVERYTHING Xbox 360
« on: April 22, 2005, 09:33:43 AM »
Ok so I put a slightly misleading topic heading... actually I didn't I did say Behind the scene. In case you are confused and living under a rock. The Xenon or Xbox 2 or X box 360 or whatever is going to be run on a PowerPC (aka IBM aka apple CPU) derivative and on an ATI gpu. So when u think about it... what u really have is a suped up G5 in a smaller case perhaps? The pics show the Xbox development kits that were sent out to game deveopers notice its a (glares in SHOCK... bah) G5 with MS stickers all over it... go figure. Take a look:

If u understand german (I think its german) the site is here:

The Cell processor in the PS3,that will make the Xenon look like a 286SX, is also a derivative of IBM's G5 chipset.

this thing looks sexy enough to be designed by apple. looks genuine, considering apparently it was "leaked" from ourcolony.net

You can have how much cell chip and processors you WANT.  And the PS2 is living proof of this, power doesnt make a system successful

If it looks like it could have been designed by apple then maybe it was :p rem the development kits were G5's... maybe MS realized that apple has what it needs to make sexy looking products that sell...

LOL @ Shinkuus last post. Well I agree with the PC having all the power and enough titles to keep me here for a lil while longer... however with the onset of the Next gen consoles.... it'll become INCREASINGLY difficult to port these games to the PC... so for all we know the PC market may start to suffer... (just thought that up as I was posting...). To back the point I just made, look at how long it takes a game to be ported to a MAC. Consider now that the Xbox2 and Next Nintentdo system are basically G5 tech and the Cell well thats even more of a stretch games on the whole for consoles will be greatly different than a PC. So it may take a whole year or MORE (i'd count on more) to port games now, IF they even bother to pay to overhead to make the port... ah well.. time to get a console it would seem.

Of course i know many of you guys watched the unveiling of the X360 last night. My 2 cents. I have to see more to be very certain. I am impressed with the glitzy intro, no doubt MTV is reknowned for that. THats why i dont watch the d#mn station anymore :P

I think the system has nice features. The most noticeable thing i saw was wireless controlers. Something very cool.  I dont think the power and a/v system is wireless, doubt it. But the controls have been redesigned, for the better. The black and white buttons are now like the L2 and R3 buttons on the PS2 controler. There is a main menu button on the controler as well

Yes its got power, its got ability and all that. All that stuff is very nice. i like it. But to be honest look at this gens systems. p!ssing and moaning over resolution and capability is now pretty pointless. Its just done for the sake of argument. But to put something on the table www.gametrailers.com has quite a few vids of the XBOX games to be released. I tell you this much, the graphics mimic that of the TOP OF THE LINE PC games today. You are seing details on weapons, details ont he characters, lighting and effects like PC games today. The SOUND is amazing, AI looks fantastic in a couple of the launch games.

And mind you, this is LAUNCH games. This is BASELINE graphical capability of the system. Very interesting to see what happens next. Yes I belive i am going to have to dedicate an entire day to waiting in line at E3 to play the Perfect Dark demo (if there is one) and the Half Life 2 demo for the regular XBOX. Very psyched for this E3. Think its gonna be a great rival fest.

Impressed with the intro? Its a game release, not a concert! But yea the 360 has potential, but, so far, it nothing special to me. I hope that it turns out better, but in the mean while, I still have my fingers crossed for the ps3.
