Ive never heard of them but I checked it out and it seems pretty solid. Not as available anymore as its an older unit.

You won't double ur benchmark score, but you will see linear increases in varying benchmark (there is not magic double CPU power == double Benchmark score unfortunately). Also I didn't find and reviews with the X3 vs. the X6 to show the difference (i've included toms just for a reference below). Basically i'd venture you'd see as much as 80% increase in performance depending on how well it's multithreaded. Seeing as it does outperform the X4 965 (even at a 200MHz defficit) i'd say it will be a NOTICEABLE increase in performance over an X3, also Turbo will help as it can clock up to 3.6GHz without u having to do a thing.

It's been a while... too long in fact... so due to some changes in space requirements I have moved on from Big and wide to short and wider (albeit ever so slightly). I have given up my HAF for a Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced - Mini-ITX and my full sized QUAD SLI/Xfire capable mobo for a single 16x PCIe3 Asrock B75M-ITX. Yes folks i've gone gaming HTPC  without further ado here's the build (special thanks to THG marathon builders system guide as alot of the parts are straight off of that  :happy0203:)

And my preliminary results (more to follow)

Very slick

I read those articles myself recently and was suitably impressed by the numbers an HTPC can push.

May warrant another stab at a gaming HTPC

Also on the plus side, it won't be in the price bracket to face off against Messiaah, fctt and those beasts lol

nice.

I was leaning towards an android based HTPC as my next project. For the miserly power draw and because when I had my gaming HTPC, it was never used for actual gaming.

Too much competition for the living room screen

I don't have a solution for that second point yet...so maybe I will need to stick with the android box. :(

Not bad at all.  I like it.

I've also been upgrading my HTPC bit by bit.
I'll post those details eventually.

Still contemplating on upgrading the video card though.

I have another HTPC (built before this one) that is built and waiting but still not in use cause the HDTV not in the bedroom so no need for it yet. That sporting a Athlon II X4 and mini ATX not ITX like my gaming rig here.

What a strange coincidence that I should come across this article just now... http://techreport.com/blog/25237/the-desktop-pc-needs-a-makeover

These three suggestions jumped out at me...

Quote
- Speaking of power, we could save users a lot of grief by simplifying power cabling.
Heck, we could build it right into the enclosure—connect the PSU to the case with a big, standardized connector,
and have strategically placed plugs and connectors sprout off where they're needed. All of the sudden,
you no longer need loads of space around the motherboard and behind the motherboard tray for cable routing.

 - In line with the above, we might as well integrate SATA data connectors into drive bays, too.
Just make every bay behave like a docking station and pre-route the cables.
I guess we'll also want an option to bypass or upgrade the integrated cables,
since high-end SATA Express SSDs are presumably just around the corner. Not all drives will need a 2GB/s interface, though.

 - Come up with a unified connector for front LEDs and buttons.
This is long, long overdue. Seriously, how hard could it be to call up major motherboard makers and make them all agree on a common pin-out?
Give it a snazzy marketing name, add it to the list of features along with your military-grade capacitors and auto-overclocking voodoo, and move on. Sheesh.

I believe those three will eliminate a TON of the headache associated with PC building...ESPECIALLY for small-form-factor builds.

Yeah, we could do that....and lets call it the Xbox One! lol

Take away those technicalities and it won't be a PC anymore. Just a console by another name. lol

It takes a certain level of sophistication and IT aristocracy to put together a machine. Remove that and the PC becomes as base as a PS3/xbox/etc...

TBH, is has already become worryingly simple since 95% of PC components are now integrated and/or require little or no configuration. (Network, Sound, Hard Drives, Memory, Video, etc..)

Was a time when you'd spend half a day just in the bios getting things right. Settting up HD paramets, cylinders heads, ram timings, cpu fsb etc.. Now, you need not even enter the bios...not even once.

Is there nothing sacred arcman??? Leave the bloody pins and power cables alone! lol

lololol, I agree with you both.
Ease of use and simplicity is always a good thing, but wyatt also has a point too lolol.

Regardless, I don't see the standards in PC Building changing anytime soon.
