Serious bandwidth immc ! green dot!
« on: June 03, 2005, 11:01:00 PM »
Today  i was real pissed because green dot  internet access refused to connect , i kept bugging the people all day , they kept saying something about 'making some changes ' ...  i couldn't get online until a few hours ago.. and man i am happy with those changes they made ! Hopefully they finally got an optic fibre, i wouldn't know the pings because they re- blocked all my ports, but the bandwidth is T1 class !
I'm downloading from FTPS sites at 150 KILOBYTES ! not for just a few seconds , but for extended periods of time ! check the time on the first 2 screenshots ,  several minutes later i'm still blazing away .  the TSTT bandwidth test only gives me 356kbps , but the Cnet gives me over 900 !

69.71.151.212 someone  with DSL do me a favour and ping that ip,  and tell me what you get....

your not guarenteed to get that bandwidth , its probably just a fluke  for the time bieng , this morning the speed dropped to around 750 kpbs.....
But it does prove that green dot is capable of supplying T1 connections to those who want it, and its still blazing fast in the rain too  :p

lol

yeah, that is joke.

When we first signed on during the beta, we were getting 6mb+ and downloading at 300K+ (the limit of the servers we were downloading from. It was insane speed.

lol. There were probably just about 4 - 5 of us on the connection at that stage.

When they capped everyone, we dropped to 128K and got 16K+ download speeds :(

Haven't experienced that sort of performance since. You lucky bastard!

As for the pings:

C:\Documents and Settings\baego>ping 69.71.151.212

Pinging 69.71.151.212 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 69.71.151.212: bytes=32 time=721ms TTL=237
Reply from 69.71.151.212: bytes=32 time=653ms TTL=237
Reply from 69.71.151.212: bytes=32 time=664ms TTL=237
Reply from 69.71.151.212: bytes=32 time=657ms TTL=237

Still on Sat backbone it seems.

Fibre would have taken us down to 30 - 80ms

lol @ infinity kbps ,  the substance might be any number of things , i might have better reception than usual, maybe the combination of routers /  150 feet of  wire does something .
Green dot finally unlocked my ports, time to sign up for news server and  filez immc !

LOL @ infinite bandwidth, this is a good showing for them, maybe I should invigle them to set up a nice omnidirectional antaenna in my blk so that we can get broadband. Cause as it stands we're in a valley and TSTT sticking so there is NO broadband in Blk 5 Palmiste. And that is a area that should be high on the list of wants since alot of ppl would opt for the speed. I know that Caribel is already supplying to BLk7 GreenDot should act quick! that aside we'll need a antaenna since dem damn hills on the north and east of us... no line of sight!!!

I drop the service as of May 31...more fire oui...speeds just not anywhere near what I expected...guess I jes spoiled oui...too accustomed to the speeds in me office...I cyah live on some jokey 256k connection that does barely make it past 128k sometimes...not to mention they stickin big time in getting the gaming servers up...and that was a major selling point for me.

LMAO @ goldengrove... yuh could tell when a man from north, anything past the lighthouse is south. Well at least we have 1 man so far that does not seem to think the service is great, any other disappointed souls?

What green should do is set up towers in places that get good reception , and Wi-Fi the signal to the surrounding area  in places where many people want access  . They could easily get 1mbit off the dish at a good point and provide 4-5 people with 256k access or 8-9 people with 128k . Paying for installation of a dish is plenty for one man , but a several people can afford it and share access ( like what i'm doing right now to my neighbourhood, except with normal LAN cable ) .
I looking forward to hosting some neighbourhood sweats in the future , 3 men in house with router, 1 man in each house with network access .  Only problem is people in my clan have sh!t pcs   and only 2 pcs in the neighbourhood can actually play  the games  .

lol @ golden grove hook up

boy czar, I feel your pain. It has been a see saw ride and no game servers yet, which was the REAL selling point for me.

I'm almost at wits end. More recently, all ports except http and smtp were disabled, so you can only browse and send email.

Not fun at all. It is absolutely a "no contest" between my home DSL connection and the greendot wireless.

Oh well, one more month before I throw in the towel.

Rumour has it that TSTT DSL is going up from 256k to 512k in a week or two.

Adding more insult to numerous injuries.

To make matters even worse...if yuh have TSTT Smart Choice Gold package...DSL is discounted a nice 20%! That drops it to $320 + VAT...and for those of you short on the math skills....that's $368 total....even less than GreenDot's offering before VAT! They hadda come seriously better than that...as much as I hate TSTT...their offering is faster, more stable, has less issues with blocked ports, it cheaper (wit Smart Choice)....and it might possibly jump up to 512k?!? Ways...don't think I really need to draw the conclusion for you...

As baego would say....pressura for GreenDot!

...and yet, for where I live, Greendot may for a good while, be the only ppl I can go to for high speed net...

So there won't be much choice, and from how things looking, Greendot may be reaching where i am before tstt :S.
