Well if you want to drink that and lose an eye or a nut feel free to do so... generally drinking methanol or anything close to its % isn't good idea though...

Uh... it's not methanol it's actually propan-2-ol. (3 carbons with an oh stuck to the middle instead of 1 carbon). It's not really anywhere near as toxic as methanol, it probably won't make you go blind unless you get drunk and stab yourslef in the eye, but it'll mess you up good. Turns into acetone in the liver, screws up the cells, messes with other organs and can kill you. On the up side, it gives you nice fruity smelling breath...

I'd use it, but it simply does not clean as effectively (and quickly!) as level H2O flowing from a stand pipe....

I know its not methanol, but was too lazy to give the actual composition. And what I am really reffering to is >90% isopropyl alcohol and not the lower % such as mentholated spirits.... also certain car cleaners could be used... cyah rem which ones at the moment. Check up on artic silver's installation instructions for say AC5 on ur heatsink etc for what I mean. They advise no car cleaners though :p

Uhh. I realised that, but higher percent isopropyl alcohol is still propan-2-ol. Lower % just means it has more water in it. Methanol in any percentage is far more dangerous than an equal percentage of isopropyl.

Methylated spirits is usually made up of mainly ethanol but has toxic stuff added to it (anything from methanol to isopropanol to a bunch of others that just plain taste nasty) in the hopes that idiots can see the "TOXIC DONT DRINK" sticker and leave it alone. It's not made up of pure ethanol because then it falls into a different tax/duty category and is by comparison will become VERY expensive. Pure ethanol would probably be about as good a cleaner as isopropyl of a similar concentration, but it would be a slightly better acid, I think. I dont think that difference in acidity would be an issue.

The reason they come in 70% and >90% dilutions is, as far as I'm aware, for antiseptic properties. 70% is typically really effective at killing germs, 90% is even more so, I believe. Rum is closer to 40% unless it's overproof rum (really made for export) like puncheon. Angostura bitters is probably the stongest thing you'll find in someone's house other than puncheon.

I've personally had as close to 100% alcohol as you get. During a class trip to caroni 1975 ltd they took us to the room near the top of the distillation tower. In that room there's a tap and there just happens to be a glass nearby. What comes out is raw, pure, undiluted alcohol. The guy filled a glass for us and we passed it around. It is warm and burns like hell going down, but it won't kill you. You can also see the blasted thing evaporating right in front of you.

The best part is that they gave each maxi-load of us a bottle of white, a bunch of cups and a bottle of red to use as a chaser. Needless to say the rest of the field trip (to see the rice production side of caroni) was pretty much useless for some of us.

So long as it's ethanol >90% is perfectly safe. Well no, not perfectly safe, because you might get patacks real fast off of it and do something stupid like try blowing out a candle with a mouthful of close to 100% alcohol.

This is even more amazing when you have actually played Guitar Hero II and know the songs. It is an 8 year old kid playing the songs on Expert. Talk about jaw-dropping. The second song, Free Bird, is one of the hardest but is a bit slow until 5 minutes into the song (then it really picks up). The last song, Jordan, is the hardest song in the game. I have real respect for this kid.
