M3 Ds Flash Drive ( aka rom loader :D )
« on: March 04, 2007, 04:22:30 AM »
Ok first thing i must say is that u cannot download roms unless u own the original ds game...........Anyway lets get to business M3 is definitly a worthy buy its called the m3 simply why because its simply awesome and the installation is so easy it should be called Paris Hilton *crowd aplauds* ( X-play joke :D ).

ok simple facts on what it does now, it loads roms that u download onto it ( if u dont know what a rom is then google it ) the m3 does not work for itself u do need the apropriate memory stick ( sold separatly unless u buy as a package ).

installation - u do not need to install any program onto the pc itself as the memory stick is treated as a storage device like them flash memory things. But u do need to install something onto the memory stick which is as simple as copying and pasting the apropriate files into the memory stick.

How it works - i dont know i didnt design it....

Does it work well - it works just as well as the original games and yes u can play online as your friend codes are determined by your DS and the game so all will be different.

Final Review

The good

Ds are easy to aquire
games play perfectly
games play online
all your games are on one ds card so no need to change it :D

The bad

The memory sticks are tiny as hell and hard to hold
Their is a DS virus Yes! there is a ds virus that stops your ds from working and there is no way to fix ever!It is quite simple to avoid getting the ds virus though download all games from this site http://www.nintendo-ds-roms.com/

http://www.nintendo-ds-roms.com/ downloads via emule clients and unless u can get a good working emule client it will take long to download (if anyone can help me get rid of low id on emule i apreciate it) i use shareaza to download it as it downloads fast but does not connect to all games.

Final Score 10/10 !

i know what u thinkin it has bad points so it cant get perfect right? wrong the bad points really dont affect u much becuz once u download roms it works without any problems and although downloading a game might take a while the games work forever! :P

EDIT: i cant remember where i bought it sorry but buy the m3 perfect simply it is awesome

i bought my r4ds from www.modchipstore.com without any microsd card. it cost $45 us and they charged $24 us to ship it to trinidad. the package came with 2 flash cards (yes i said 2) a software cd to drag and drop to your sd card and a connector to transfer files to a microsd card via usb port.
this thing is great cause it gives your ds psp functionality (without the subpar games). the only thing i regret was not buying the optional microsd card as buying a 2gb card there would hv cost me the same as buyin a 1gb in trinidad.
by the way where can one get affordable microsd cards in trinidad?

Ok if u got the one with 2 flash cards and you mean the one for ds slot and the one for gba slot thats the slot 2 flash drive it requires the gba cartridge to save games and uses the ds cartridge as a passme card. If that is the one you got sorry to say u are vulnarable to all 3 ds viruses that are out if u get the m3 u are only vulnerable to 1 as 2 of them affect only the slot 2 flash cards.

sorry made an error in my last post. just bought some memory today and i realized that i only got one r4 and the other is actually a replacement cover that comes in black in case you want your r4 ro have a black exterior. didnt see this on the site and i only realized it was hollow after i pushed in the micro sd card ^_^. works great by the way. movies look good and it takes 1hr to convert a full length movie. and also it really works with any type of microsd as i got a brand called s3+ and i have had no problems all day. i recommend it to anyone who can cop it. by the way the m3 and r4 are made by the same people and have exactly the same functionality

To be quite honest, the viruses are a joke...you'd have to be semi-retarded to get infected. A non-issue in my mind.

I've got the original M3 Perfect (a Slot-2 solution), and I absolutely love it...allows me to play both DS and GBA games. And yes, I do play GBA games...playin Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance right now actually.

I recently picked up an M3 Simply for my sister, and I must say, I'm impressed with how simple it actually is to use, because she doesn't need any assistance from me whatsoever to get it going...kudos to M3 for making it so simple. Upgrading the firmware on the card is as simple as copying on the new firmware file to the memory card...thas it...no actual flashing involved.

The R4 and M3 Simply are indeed made by the same peeps...not sure why they didn't just keep it as one product, but funtionally, they're the same product. In fact, the early models of these products could have been modded to be the other product (Simply -> R4 and R4 -> Simply) by a little soldering.

I made both my purchases at http://www.kicktrading.com , but Divineo is a well respected site too and I know quite a few guys at school who got theirs through that site, so they legit.

I have the r4ds - it uses the same chipset as the m3 ds simply - and apparently theres a converter so they can use each other's firmware.

Picked up a 2GB micro sd card - still got more than half the space ;)

MUST HAVE HOMEBREW!!!

1. Quake DS - it's the new help world. NB : /id1 dir MUST be in root dir, place wad in there. Some slowdowns, but remains playable.
2. DSOrganize - A PDA in your pocket. Browser is text based so it does not need the extra RAM that the slot 2 carts (the gba slot) can add. Includes an IRC client, as well.
3. Dscent - Descent, controlled via touchscreen. Takes some work to get working, if you have the dos version like i did, that will not work. there's a win95 version (i swiped it of emule) floating around coming with descent 1 and 2. THOSE files work.
4. Warcraft tower defence - maybe the most awesome homebrew game i've tried. Map editor, FEELS like warcraft 3. Beautifully done. /maps must be in root of sd card though.
5. Comic book DS - can batch convert your .cbr and .cbz files to cbds format it uses automatically, and is a very polished app. touch screen moves the viewport around, and you see what you're looking at on the top. dynamic zoom. Highly recommended.
6. DS Linux - Linux on the DS!!! There really isnt a whole lot of apps for it yet, but some key ones such as a text editor are there.
7. ds aim easy to use and working just fine with aim! nicely done app.

Extra info :
1. you need a commercial rom to setup wifi. The app dswifi is neat, but just didn't work as well as say, mariokart. wardriving option is kinda nice though.
2. roms you get MAY need to be patched with DLDI. Ok, here's the deal. Lotta games out there used different types of flash, with different chips. The way these roms read and wrote to chips were all different. DLDI is a library that can be used for roms to read and write using standard FAT on flash.
3. Slot 1 is the DS slot. Slot 2 is the GBA slot. While the DS slot will run stuff in ds mode, The gba slot can be used for other purposes - e.g. Opera browser uses the slot to expand memory (think of it as a DIMM!). Also, certain chips are just too big for the ds carts. e.g. the Play yan will run on the gb advance, but not on the ds. It will play back mp4 files quite nicely. Something the 3/66mhz arm procs in the ds cannot do, because it contains an mpeg4 decoder chip in the cart.
4. snes emulation so far for me has been pretty poor, but don't lose hope ;) nintendo is fine, genesis should be ok too.

And please - if you like a game, buy it. You're already getting the big portability advantage. I'd like to see good creators getting fund to make another good game ;)

couple other links for use
not just a compaability list, but a good list of what's there.
http://wiki.scorpei.com/index.php/R4_compatibility_list

and here http://nintendo-ds.dcemu.co.uk/ you need to dig a little - scroll down looking at the right menus till you get to applications for the ds.

Get your homebrew from the site that made it, and try it in an emulator first.

I have no problem buying the original games for the DS. But for traveling purposes its MUCH easier to coast with everything on one card and not have to swap out anything. I cant find a damn case that can hold all the DS games i have..lame :(
