PSP Core is now $169 US
« on: April 07, 2007, 11:13:28 AM »
Effective this week, the PSP Core pack is now $169 US. The Core pack just has the system with AC adapter. This puts it just within a reasonable price range for anyone who was thinking about it before. Now the only question is if I should spring for a PSP or stick with my 360 for Lumines (one of the few games I want for PSP).

Well, my thing is that I want handheld games that are different from my console games. My DS fills that role perfectly. I play my DS mostly at home so for me the advantage of having a portable version of a console game is nullified. The only exceptions would be the re-releases of old console games that I may have missed the first time they were released (like SNES RPG's). Even this may not be needed when Live Arcade and Virtual Console beef up their library in the next few years.

This belongs in Handheld Gaming. *boot*

Yeah, I'm somewhat disappointed that the PSP's only redeeming titles are virtually all remakes of pre-existing titles. On top of that, waiting for a new title that's worth getting is like waiting for Colm Imbert to grow a brain.

Still, I'm quite happy with what titles I did manage to get (excluding Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, which is severely beaten down by the PSP's crappy controls.)
With that said:

- Yu-Gi-Oh GX Tag Force
- Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X
- Gradius Collection
- GTA: Liberty City and Vice City Stories
- Tekken: DR

...are probably the best the system has to offer. Haven't played Daxter and Lumines as yet, though, but I'm sure they're good also.

off-topic: NEO...at this point I really going to ask you to post a rant about Colm Imbert. You have SERIOUS issues with the guy!! Remind me of one maths teacher (who was damn good, but I'd deck him in a flash for his self-righteous arrogance) who claims when he and Imbert was in UWI, Imbert used to talk so much they had to keep telinghim "shut up!"

On topic: US$169 doh seem too bad for core handheld console....but is sony... too many bad rep for my liking now..
God is dead.

you really should get ALL your information before making comments like that.

PSP's are downgradable to version 1.5 which allows for booting of games on memory sticks via loaders, for post 2.71 firmware there are methods that allow this also.  Not because it doesn't use a mod chip or a physical device means it can't be modded.

I'm tempted into getting one of these now, if only for castlevania rondo of blood.

well in order to get acquired games to work , you have to downgrade. Post 2.71 if try to downgrade on certain boards it kills the board sort of. Theres a downgrade involving the 1st edition GTA LCS but to downgrade you need the game. Later versions of the same game will not work.  The 1st unpatched edition of LCS goes for like a couple hundred US on ebay.
