FLUSHED BY its own success, Nintendo is to position its handheld DS unit as an information device, and not just for gaming, according to a report on nikkei.net.

The wire said that Nintendo has field tested the DS as a personal digital assistant at the Seattle Mariners baseball pitch, letting spectators access stats from previous games and order munchkins and drinks.

The wire also said that Dai Nippon Printing intends to create a DS Vision service to distribute comics, while hospitals are also trialling the device for rehabilitation.
