Title: MSI Eclipse preview...
Post by: Arcmanov on October 06, 2008, 12:26:52 PM

Sweet preview (http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=6&id=2714) of MSI's enthusiast X58-chipset motherboard for the new Intel Corei7 CPUs.

I am liking it VERY much.  Probably wont upgrade to that till well into 2009.  You KNOW what the prices
of these boards and i7 CPUs will be.  Not to mention DDR3 RAM prices as well.

Interestingly enough, preliminary tests show that this platform is only 10% faster than Intel's current flagship X48 platform.
Of course, once the chipset 'matures' that will be a different story...

Nah...doh say dat.  According to this (http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=9235&Itemid=1), the 2.66 GHz version should be rather 'affordable'.  The other two at $562 US and $999 US could stay right dey.
The mobo prices might START at $250 US.

Oook then I shall stick to being a few steps behind and stay with getting a Q6600 sometime next year with my mobo upgrade..

sweetness of silicone.. hmm.. those prices not really that bad.. with that technology, the 2.6ghz is quite suffice. If GOD spare my life and my wallet, depending on how next year swings, this might be my upgrade.

Remember its mobo, CPU and RAM eh...you lookin at about 600-800 US there in total (assuming you keeping everything else).

what is the consensus on this 3ripple channel ddr3 thing...
and with such a vibrant push to 64bit(finnaly) are manus gonna start focusing on making good 64 bit drivers for the things we cant do without ?

Well what did you expect for new tech? Plus with the way things are going economy-wise, this is kinda what I would expect for a prerelease pricing scheme....that's why I giving it at least till June before considering an upgrade to the i7 platform...

Once DDR3 starts to become more available, and widely used, the price will come down.
It may only go up if there is intense demand and crippling supply.
