Title: DiRT 2
Post by: rassmatic on February 27, 2009, 06:44:42 PM
Quote
The original Dirt--a rally racing game carrying on the legacy of the Colin McRae series--won over fans and critics with its combination of gorgeous visuals, varied events, and an impressive damage modeling system. In other words, it was a hit across the board, which naturally means that Codemasters is hard at work on a sequel. Known quite simply as Dirt 2, this follow-up was unveiled by the English publisher at a press event last night in San Francisco.

If you're looking for a game that will fully take advantage of the latest hardware and software on the PC market, Codemasters has a racing game for you. Earlier today, Codemasters announced that the Games for Windows edition of DiRT 2, the fast paced sequel to the 2007 off-road racing game, will fully support DirectX 11 as well as Windows 7. Citing the release of DirectX 11 hardware in the second half of 2009 as well as the launch of Windows 7 (which will come with DirectX 11 on October 22, 2009), Codemasters stated that the game will intentionally take advantage of various DX11 features, such as Shader Model 5.0 for richer 3D, enhanced depth of field and other features.

"We expect Codemasters' early move to DirectX 11 to place them in a leadership position in developing the next generation of PC games and simulations," said Rick Bergman, senior vice president, AMD Products Group. "To aid in transitioning to DirectX 11, AMD is providing Codemasters with access to our software engineering expertise in DirectX 11 technologies such as tessellation and shader modeling. DirectX 11 has all of the ingredients needed to take PC gaming to a new level of realism by giving developers tools to effectively utilize the multi-CPU, multi-GPU systems now available to players."

To help Codemasters ensure that DiRT 2 takes advantage of everything that DX 11 has to offer, the company announced that the Games for Windows version of the game will ship this December, while the console and handheld versions of the game are still scheduled to ship this September.

"While the console editions of DiRT 2 will retain their September ship date, we believe that the DirectX 11 feature set is too compelling to ignore, especially considering how much more it can add to the visual experience for PC gamers," said Bryan Marshall, chief technical officer, Codemasters. "As a leader in digital racing entertainment, we are staying ahead of the pack by immediately taking advantage of key new technologies such as hardware tessellation, multi-threading and Shader Model 5.0 to deliver the most realistic, immersive and exhilarating racing experiences in the business. The fusion of DirectX 11 with Codemasters' EGO Engine will raise the technical bar considerably in the racing genre."

Personally i don't think it looks much different from part 1 (which is in no way an insult). But for all the talk of DX11 i expected more. Checkout the HD vid below

Men who don't have a 360 and 1080i/p setup to play games on it really ought not to make pokes at how good gaming looks AND plays on XBL :p

From it's first announcement I realy had hopes that this would be a true sequel to DIRT 1. But DIRT 2 is not a true rally game. There's not even a single tarmac event in this game. Codemasters has "Americanized" this version too much which in my opinion, is a shame. I guess that's where the money is.
Title: Re: DiRT 2
Post by: Arcmanov on September 09, 2009, 12:30:47 PM
Well, the 'tarmac' events are in Grid 2.  DiRT 2 is the off-road stuff.
Whats wrong with that?  ???

Nothing wrong with it. I'm just saying Rally purists will look elswhere.

http://hothardware.com/News/Dirt-2-PC-Demo-Released-DX11-vs-DX9-Tested/

The PC Demo for Codemaster's upcoming DirectX 11 racing title Dirt 2 has just hit the web and is available for download right here. If you're unfamiliar with Dirt 2, Codemaster's says this about the game, "DiRT 2 will feature a roster of contemporary off-road events, taking players to the most diverse and challenging real-world environments. This World Tour will have players competing in aggressive multi-car and intense solo races at extraordinary new locations, from canyon racing and jungle trails to city stadium-based events." To sum this up in gamer-speak, Dirt 2 is a highly anticipated racing sim, that happens to feature some incredible graphics.

Throughout the later part of its development, in both screenshots and in live demonstrations we have received of the game, Dirt 2 has impressed us with its visual quality, realism, and use of cutting edge graphics technology. In addition to a DirectX 9 code path, Dirt 2 also utilized a number of DirectX 11 features, like hardware tessellated dynamic water, animated crowd, and dynamic cloth in addition to DirectCompute 11 accelerated high definition ambient occlusion (HADO), full floating point high dynamic range (HDR) lighting, and full screen resolution post processing. Codemaster's has produced a video showing of the DirectX 11 effects in action, that you've got to check out to appreciate...

I played the demo last night...and I dunno if its my system, or the game itself, because in
some instances it would run great, at a smooth 60 fps, but then other times it would just run
like molasses...as in 13 fps.

I'm chalking that up to hit-or-miss optimization perhaps?  After all, this one seems like another console port.

The PC reqs (http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2009/11/13/dirt-2-system-specs-released/1) kinda beefy though.
For the first time in loooong while my main gaming PC cannot surpass the recommended spec for a game.  * sob? *

pfffft, whatever.....I'm sure the ACS Arcman-Advanced (http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/6692/capture10102009121847am.jpg) will chew up the full version. :)

hmm maybe cause i on xp.

and try the *FULL* version.. might be bugs, its smooth and fps on max is excellent here.

Oh SWEET vid Cap.  Just goes to show how beautiful the game looks, even on a YouTube vid.

Someone needs to do a small tutorial for video-editing n00bs like myself.

...and don't worry Messiaah, just poking some harmless fun at Smilie... :)

but the second link looks like it cover everything :S...

what i usually do.. is tune for acceleration because it hardly have long stretches... and men does real crash yuh... so mus improve that accel to get back in the fray quickly...

and ... @ last nite... i couldnt get 1 min to race people was only harassin me... lock door tonite ftw!!!

NO, FULL, DAMAGE!

ppl need time to learn d game, learn how to drive. with full damage on, if i drive off ah cliff i out d game, if i flip up over ah hump, i out d game, dat takes away all d fun from d game for me. i can speak for smilielicious and problemsolver as well not wanting full damage on.

some ppl does have ah hard enough time as it is makin it to d finihs line (smilie), time full damage on, she will be hardly getin to play anything atal.

We was swetin dirt 2 all d time with full damage off, and it was mad crazy fun, and everybody enjoying deyself and freeing up.

When asked to fight d bajans in dirt 2 u said u bought dis game for fun not to fight nobody. Dies what i buy it for too , fuh fun, and right now full damage is no fun. When men learn d game dem hard options will get fling on, full damage, pro series cars, etc etc. We was swetin good all d time, yuh now join in d swets, do not jumbie it with dat full damage talk. Full damage will come when man ready fuh it.

So, relax yuhself, and enjoy d game how we runnin it all d time.

Yea well you take time and learn the game with training wheels on but most of us prefer more of a challenge.

You dont like to total when u bounce. THAT is "barty man" ting.

And as though u hadda have your own way all the time. Host yuh own game for yuh peeps in that case

When you ready for some serious and challenging sweat, the rest ah we right here.

*yawns* notnice specificaly post askin for dmaage, and if i not mistaken, every single dirt 2 player except 2 of alyuh say NO DAMAGE. so why alyuh runin down d damage talk for :S who is d most of alyuh ? 2 ppl? *yawns*

and if it were just me, i would have played d damage, but i have my wife runnin d game too, and she cannot play with damage on, and i standing by dat. Alyuh could be bamsees and adamant about damage, or behave alyuh lil chidlren mentality, and run d swet. Up to alyuh.
Title: Re: DiRT 2
Post by: Spazosaurus on May 12, 2010, 12:27:43 AM
How allyuh expect to learn how to play properly if u can bounce into a tree at 200km/h and drive away? That is the simple question I ask. We trying to show that you all can BETTER your game by running with damage on.

And there is absolutely no reason to resort to name calling, it just reflects the kind of person you are.

I dont mind playing with damage off now and again but allyuh just want to ride with training wheels right through. Ohhh if I dont have my training wheels on ill fall off my bike. At some point they have to come off so you can learn.

So when allyuh ready to learn to play, I (regardless of who from GATT willing to join me, I dont care) will be going out online racing to up my game with THOUSANDS of other men who trying to do the same. I will run yall when yuh serious. Up to allyuh.

Good fight, good night.

trainin wheels is to do what? not learn? :S

I said damaage WILL come, juss not now, we only start d game 1 week now, and some men dont have d time to dedicate to d game like others. Add to dat, no grid background etc etc. it is not time for d trianin wheels to come off yet, why alyuh rushing d thing.

Lord have mercy.

If alyuh cannot play with damage off atal, den fix alyuh mix :S
D rest of we will free up and enjoy d swet reguardles, dies all.
I buy dirt 2 to swet with ppl, enjoy myself, and free up, not to race competitively. Crashing into ah tree 200mph and driving away, is FUN!

Seeing somebody make 3 full rotations airborn, and end up in ah tree, is FUN! Laughing at men car driving mash up after finishing d race, is FUN!

Making ah mistake and running off d road, and have to sit and wait 3 laps whiles everybody finish race, is not fun :s Alyuh men taking dis game WAYYY tooo seriously. Relax alyuh self. But at this point, i doh think it have anything else i coudl say to alyuh nah, fix up. *follows redfish out the door*

I ask form the damage after she left when it was 5 of we left 2 say no so me and awesome left because we want to run the damage.

Messiaah the name calling was not need on mumble/this topic.

That is all i asked (but it back fired)

Bottom line was i just ask who want damage say I that was all i ask.+alyuh was about to leave self we i ask so put everything behind us before every one fall out making no body play dirt 2 again.

Those who want damage can make there own game same goes for the no damage players that's all.

Good lord...I miss all this commess? :laughing7:

I could play reasonably well, but I have to side with MessiaaH here.  'Full damage' on can be frustrating at times,
especially when you wipe out in the 1st lap and have to sit out the rest of the race.

That said though, I can still ress down the 'training wheels' when the time comes.

Hear what...we can still have the best of both worlds:  we leave damage off when the 8-man bonanza is running,
and after that is done, the hardcore peeps can continue with it on, so those who want/need to step up, can.

How does that sound?  :)

Can we all be friends again?  :3some:

agreed at arc...

i never see a man now get a bike and in 1 week taking of the training wheels... he must be some kinda hero to do that...

Try and remember capt and notnice... we now get the game last week... how fast u expect us to take of training wheels... not to mention it eh some game like nfs where u can just jump in and drive... you need to learn the game as its a half sim

I'm all for progression but because allyuh had the game before, allyuh rushing things man...

Notnice and Warone get the game long after everyone else and they dont mind. Dont say they used to play grid before because the gameplay is worlds different.

But sorry to rush allyuh. Take alll the time u need.

One more thing. It is at this juncture that I ask notnice to create another dirt2 channel in mumble so that men can call we any amount of names they want as long as I dont hear them and they sweat going on.

No need for the second channel and thing man how that go look?, not necessary, let we kill all the name calling nah man,

Arcman had the best post/idea so far, that should make all happy. i personally don’t mind playing with damage as it ups my skill and in a game with men capable of doing it cool, but when the game full where half the people cant drive as they new to this type of game all together it becomes real tedious at best.

So we can sweat to everybody level when the game full with new players, then we can run more pro level games after for men that up to it if anything

My 2 cents.

Took my first races with it last night and boy o boy is this thig dfficult to play with. D force feedback is insane, in so muchthat it is too much. it makes it too real and ths u have to literally fight with d wheel to conol d car at high speeds. i lowered it from d default of 100 to 20. lol.

hahhaha at men trying to get a fella called "NotNice" to be "Nice".

This issue easy to solve. Increase the numbers, save the world.

If it have 20 men fighting to play dirt, there will be more than enough to have two sweats concurrently. One with damage and one without.

Recruitment time.

Who could do up a banner for the site? A lil promo poster that we could push on the facebook group, etc....?

(willing to do anything to keep notnice and awesome in the dirt2 sweat, lol)

Yea Wyatt that sound good. Your assignment tonight, say between 7 and 12am is to make a nice banner for use on this site, facebook etc and see how many people u can recruit for the sweat. Feel free to take all the time u need, we want a good banner so it may take say, 4 or 5 days.

On a real, as it is we have more people that can fit in one session as it is so the idea of 2 channels is not a bad one as it turns out.

First Impressions of Logitech Driving Force GT.

out of the box, the wheel is easy to setup, mounting onto desk takes all but a minute. Padels remains inplace on d floor, wheel rest to side of desk when not in use.

Performance:

The forcefeedback in this thing is insane as i've mentioned before, and i've since lowers the feedback strenht from 100-20, and the evironment effects from 50-20. wheel weight remains at 50.

The forcefeedback adds an extra layer of information received from the game that you can learn to love. The wheel emulates weightlessness, so when u stunt on a hump, the wheel goes dead and looose, and as the car hits the ground, the wheel shakes , then firms up as u mash out on the gas. Same applies for corners, the wheels locks up and firms up whiles breaking into the corner, loosens up mid turn, and tights up as u mash out of the corner.

This use of forcefeedback once learned can really improve the driving expereince. The feedback is so acurate that it makes the initial startup rush a bit more bareable, as i can feel every little touch the other cars givin me, and turn d wheel acordingly to keep from spinning out.

Quirks: the wheel reacts as if its real, which means, if u spin out, not only ur car, but the wheel itself spins out of control. if ah man ram u from d side, and u were not prepared, the wheel itself will lock to the left/right, and send ur car spiraling to its doom. Something to get used to i guess.

Plus: The wheel also acurately relays to ur hands what type of surface u driving on, if gravel, the wheel will be rocking slightly left-right, if grass, the wheel will be inbetween firm and loose, dirt, pitch etc etc all have varrying feedback effects that makes the expereince really cool and makes adapting ur control per road conditions better.

All them words, juss speaking on feedback alone. i eh even touch d other stuff yet, but ill pace mehself....

Fellas...I just had to leave that last sweat. No offense, but I just couldn't take the poor excuse for what you guys call 'driving'.  :angry3:

Its rather frustrating when someone tries to overtake, and willfully fishtails you into a wall.  I REALLY hate that shit,
because I don't EVER do it.  Its either you can overtake properly, or you can't.

If that is how we playing it, then leave the damage off.

That same swet was my first debut with damage on, there ah pros and cons. The pros is, it forcing u to take yuh time when racing. d cons is, when men playing stink, it is a PAIN! as arcman realised d hard way. if men racing properly, damage could work, but if men racing whiles sittin on d gear stick, den nah it eh go wok.

Hard luck arcman for ur departure, swet woulda be bad if u had remained, but if u only getin blindside, i can understand, we ultimately kicked d nasty drivers for what its worth.

That setup is sick! but I find the angled at which he is being banked exagerated... what is he driving in the game? a TRUCK? A Rally car would not go through SUCH a LARGE change in level unless is was the road. He was driving on a tarmac track not a dirt course. So I question the authenticity of the experience.

allyuh have to remember... they trying to reproduce d effects of the car @ those speeds...
it may look exaggerated from here but sittin in it you will have a different opinion
Title: Re: DiRT 2
Post by: W1nTry on June 11, 2010, 04:51:36 PM
Even at high speeds it should not be ANYWHERE near that exaggerated. Vehicle built to go at high speeds have FAR superior suspensions to anything we're accustomed to and anyone who's watched the fastest cars on earth F1, you see how they are designed wide and very low and tilt like we saw in that video would be as a result of a poorly designed suspension and would lead to sliding and loss of grip and subsequent off roading XD. Also you'll notice that in the video he goes over 'rough' patches of land and this is not reflected in the motions. It's a good effort, but far from realistic imho.
Title: Re: DiRT 2
Post by: phoenix31tt on June 11, 2010, 05:15:45 PM
sigh... wintry.. what i'm saying is... to reproduce the forces.. they have to exaggerate the motion...

cuz they cant get that chair up to 100mph and then apply breaks on it right...

so to make u feel d effects they have to exaggerate movement.. because they dont have the speed assist...
Title: Re: DiRT 2
Post by: Spazosaurus on June 11, 2010, 05:30:37 PM
I have to agree with Phoenix. A car going 200mph has a whole lot of momentum that will throw you forward when slowing down and the speeds they accelerate with will do the opposite. As that contraption isnt actually going anywhere, logic tells me that one will have to do the movements in such a way that it may LOOK overdone to a casual observer but may very well be delivering an authentic experience to the user.

The going over rough patch simulation, might really be off win, who knows.

I can only imagine what a setup like that cost to build both financially and in engineering expertese. If I had the bank, id probably go for one of those but what's more likely is me visiting the nearest Subaru dealer and ordering a WRX.

Messiaah doh worry bout that fellah the medical term for what he is experiencing is TRAUMA, and a very serious case at that.  That is what happens when you only see my car for the first few seconds of a race, by the time I finish he is still racing so obviously to deal with all that cut ass, he has to cope in some manner.  Dont worry I am here for you when I get back my Dirt 2 skills maybe the shock of getting your ass wash again will make all those memories come flooding back.

Or alternatively for now, we can use a public mumble server until ours is fixed.

In mumble when u go on Intenet, North America, USA, look for Virginia Free Mumble Trial Server

*Edit* Didnt realise it was a mumble server.

Fall eeeen
