I'm thinking this new 'Metal gear' announcement could possibly be a remake of the original title on the NES. As for the new Zelda, i am expecting a trailer..

I was thinking the same thing too as the images released so far include big boss and possibly gray fox.
Title: MGS: Rising (360) - Multiplatform?
Post by: TheApprentice on June 01, 2009, 12:12:41 PM
Kojima has had a teaser site with a countdown running for a while.
It has been flashing random letters and numbers:
R S P S 3 E F 5 N 0 6 C @

Some basic analysis gives you:
5 @ 360 PRESS CONF

And just a while ago Microsoft has changes its start time for its conference to 5 minutes earlier.
In recent memory the only game that gets a 5 minute trailer or anywhere that length has been the Metal Gear Series or Final Fantasy.
So all signs point to Metal Gear Solid finally coming to 360.
360 fanboys rejoice, Microsoft has possibly won another PS3 exclusive.  :crybaby2: lol

I call shenanigans until any official announcement is made.

Just saw the live gameplay demo of Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox 360.

WOW!!!

Took place in the snow level seen in the trailer, at an Arctic airbase.  Main highlight here was the snowmobile gameplay.

KICKAZZ!!!

Needless to say.  This game will be EPIC!!!

I just saw this OMG. Come on Sony please have something as cool as this tomorrow lol.

I wonder if that Natal demo they showed with the little boy works that well. It seemed really polished and wow no controllers for real. Makes you wonder why no one thought of that before eh...
Damn I was expecting some xbox live vision camera addon with green screen and wires, not full blown controllerless face identification and minority report style controls.

This might just convince me to replace my RROD xbox yet again....damn I wish they sorted out rrod first.

Im sure it was thought of, but implementation must have been an issue, R@D must have been burning for some years oui...

it will be interesting to see how this tech will be implemented in first person shooters, rpgs etc.

I still like having a controller or a keyboard, but I wont know till I  try i guess...

if anything 360's will definitely be selling like whoa now...

Here's the l4d 2 info

Quote
Valve Announces Left 4 Dead 2

Sequel to Best-Selling Co-op Thriller Coming This Holiday

June 1, 2009 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2), the sequel to the best-selling and critically-acclaimed co-operative multiplayer thriller.

Coming exclusively to Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 promises to set a new benchmark for co-operative action games and become one of 2009's marquee titles.

"A large part of how Left 4 Dead became 2008's top-selling new IP on Xbox 360 and the PC was the custom-tailored gameplay made possible by the AI Director," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "With the knowledge gained from creating the original, new technology, and a passionate team, L4D2 will set a new benchmark for cooperative action games."

Set for release on November 17, the title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and more.

Introducing the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

Featuring new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original with more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, and maps for Survival mode available at launch.

Supported by a $10+ million marketing campaign, Left 4 Dead has sold over 2.5 million retail copies since it was released in November of 2008. Left 4 Dead 2 is targeted for release on Xbox 360 and the PC on November 17, 2009, and will be launched worldwide with a multi-million dollar marketing campaign across TV, Outdoor, and Online.

"Left 4 Dead was backed by our most aggressive advertising campaign to date, and resulted in a top 5 showing on two platforms during holiday 2008," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "Left 4 Dead 2 is a larger game and will be supported with even more consumer and retail advertising programs than the original."

Left 4 Dead 2 will be featured as the cover story on PC Gamer and Official Xbox Magazines this month.

See the typo you made right there lol, first thing I thought of when watching it was "nintendo wii"
That lil tech demo they showed is testament to the potential. Their tech is a step ahead of nintendo ie. no controller. Perhaps Nintendo is working on a new console or whatever but I see this as a win for the casual gamer, no need for a controller means more natural gameplay....

Some more lovin for Xbox 360:

Umm…Yeah. Modern Warfare 2 looks about as insane as I hoped (I’m still cheering in my head from seeing my squad mate icepick a guy in the chest off of his snowmobile!) And it looks like Xbox users will be getting a little map pack exclusivity to get excited about as well.

Microsoft has confirmed that the game’s first two map packs will be a timed exclusive for Xbox 360 when it’s released on November 10.

A great trailer does not automatically equal great gameplay.

Case in point...ALL Final Fantasy games.

Kickass trailer, yes.  The fact that's ITS A MMO, not so kickass. (for me at least)

Fully expected to see a whole LOT more on Crysis 2.  What was done there by Cevat Yerli could have been done
via an online press release.  Disappointing at best.

As for all other EA announcements during that event, not impressed.

Well raiden's character is more melee based...sword action... so this will be really nice.

and yea the all lines of voice Eroo... thats insane..

*sigh*

Blu_Vice...Mr Kojima himself said that its a NEW metal Gear franchise, so what does 'it wont b a true mgs if its a fast paced game with more emphasis on action dan stealth'  mean?  So all of a sudden, any new MGS game MUST have emphasis on ONE particular type of gameplay, lest it be deemed not a 'true MGS'?

What utter bollocks.

I fully applaud the direction that the CREATOR has decided to take the franchise.  Hats off to you Mr. Kojima.  I for one WILL
be buying it, regardless of whether its stealth based or action based.  Personally, I prefer action anyway.

I fully expected comments like this 'not the real MGS' to start flooding the internets, such is the mentality of the Sony fanboi.

Microsoft is busy announcing a slew of upgrades to Xbox Live, and the biggest news so far is relaunch of the video service, now Zune-branded with 1080p instant-on streaming content in 18 countries. XBL is also now integrated with Facebook -- your Facebook account can be linked to your Gamertag, and games will support Facebook Connect for sharing content online. That's pretty huge -- but if that wasn't enough, you're also getting Twitter and Last.fm in the deal. Want more? Netflix users will now be able to browse the entire catalog instead of simply loading their queue, and Microsoft has also gotten its Party Watch system in order, so you'll be able to heckle videos with your online friends. Last but not least, there's now live TV streaming for UK and Ireland gamers, who'll get Premier League soccer live from Sky. All in all, a solid set of updates for XBL -- but we'll wait and see how that "1080p" video looks before we pronouce Blu-ray dead. PR blurb after the break.

Today from the E3 stage in Los Angeles, Microsoft announced plans to dramatically improve their HD video offering through a new technology that enables instant on 1080p streaming with 5.1 audio with Zune video on Xbox 360.

This implementation is as close to a "disc in the drive" experience as possible over the Internet. At a high-level, here is how it works:

    * Video startup is nearly instantaneous because of the back-end proprietary Microsoft technology developed by Zune that seamlessly transitions between many different bitrates and resolutions of video.
    * Video playback will start at a low bitrate for fast download time and then ramp up to a higher bitrate and quality, up to 1080p with 5.1 audio.
    * Features such as smooth fast forward and rewind that users have only seen before with local physical media.

It doesn't stop there. Other news coming out of E3 for Xbox LIVE Video Marketplace:

    * Social: We unveiled Movie Party, a feature where you can go to the movies with your friends whether you are sitting on the same couch or in living rooms across the country. Starting this year, you can share a virtual theater, see your Avatars (a virtual you) on the screen – all while you listen to each other laugh and cry together at the movie through voice chat on Xbox LIVE.
    * New Regional Partners: Now, for the first time Xbox LIVE members in the UK and Ireland can watch live or on-demand TV with BSkyB on Xbox. Never miss a moment of your favorite live TV shows, sports, movies and family-friendly entertainment – even share your favorites with up to seven friends in an Xbox LIVE Party.
    * Global Expansion: The 1080p streaming HD Zune video experience on Xbox LIVE marketplace is expanding to 10 new regions this year, making movies and TV shows available in 18 total countries including US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Australia, and New Zealand. (Note: content and partners vary by region)

---------
Microsoft's E3 keynote was so jam-packed the company decided to wait until afterwards to announce what might be the biggest new feature of them all: on-demand access to full retail games. The service will launch in August with 30 titles to start, and new games will be added weekly, with pricing to match retail. The best part? Purchases can be made directly with a credit card, no pesky Xbox points required. More pics of the system after the break.

Update: Don't get your hopes up, MS tells us that the point system isn't going anywhere, it's just being supplemented with credit card purchases. Also, game rentals aren't happening yet, but they said it "sounds great for the future."

lol @ sony fanboy
obviously u know NOTHIN of me arc, u are speakin to da same person who has been bashin d ps3 community for some months now soo plz get ur facts str8 wen coming wit d "fanboy" remarks

I fully expected comments like this 'not the real MGS' to start flooding the internets, such is the mentality of the Sony fanboi.

das like sayin splinter cell not based on stealth no more an gonna b all out action
so ur comment my friend failed

PS do ur self a favor an read this b4 u come wit dem fanboy remarks, i actually WANTED it multiplatform , peace

Failed you say...
What you said there just reinforces my argument.  Isn't it ironic that the new Splinter Cell: Conviction features a LOT more action? :laughing7:
Its still Splinter Cell, isn't it?  I don't hear anyone crying '...oh, its got more ACTION in it.  Oh the HORRORZ!!!  This aint the true Splinter Cell!!!',
which is essentially what you're saying about MGS: Rising.

Ah well.  To each his own I guess.  Giwwe action brudda.

To each his own is right........if i want action i hav loads of shit for that kz2, R2, cod 4, infamous...dont need an action focused MGS wit little emphasis on stealth dat made d series whic is wat made d series popular.........if i want an action MGS i play MGO (which i hopin wud ditch da dotish id system konami hav)

Lol the original activator was very lame tho, basically an infrared controller. This technology MS is using seems to be able to scan objects, faces etc, could make gaming very interesting in new titles. I not writing it off just yet especially since it looks more powerful than the wii in terms of interactivity.

It definitely seems more powerful than the Wii however I have my doubts about how good the object scanning and face scanning will be. I doubt it will be as simple or work as well as was shown in the video.

Also seems Metal Gear Solid Rising coming to PC and PS3 as well.

but will the microsoft user base respond in the same manner as the Nintendo base to this innovation? personally i doh really care for natal, but that is just me.

AS for Metal Gear Solid Rising, it's a brand new series in the same old franchise, I'm in regardless of which platform it heads to. For those who were not too keen on the stealth use, MGS4 can be played using minimal stealth and more gung-ho action tactics.

I don't think they are targeting their current user base, looks like a growth strategy to bring in the casual user and capture some of the wii crowd. They could possibly introduce a bundle for $200 that includes that new camera addon. If the wii did not fall in price then it would be a cheaper console. The risks they face though are proper implementation, games support and alienation of its current base. They seem to want to do many things at once on the console however that may be possible since they added functionality slowly instead of one massive update...

I agree that nintendo's showing was not as strong as the others.

http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/nintendo-the-loser-as-big-three-rock-e3-604990 (http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/nintendo-the-loser-as-big-three-rock-e3-604990)

"Let's put this in perspective, Mario will always reign supreme – but Nintendo has been back to that particular well many, many times now and judging by the disappointing sales of Super Mario Galaxy, fondness is not translating to market share in quite the same way now that the Wii is about lifestyle more than core gamers.

Nintendo tried hard to insist that those core gamers could play alongside its new family market, but in constantly repeating that message it perhaps missed out on a great opportunity to bring the WOW that its rivals managed.

There will be much talk about Sony and Microsoft's keynotes – and which was better, I don't think many people will be arguing that Nintendo's had the same impact. "

Just watched the vid of the Sony motion control.  Dildo or not, that tech is head and shoulders above the Wii-mote,
and Natal (in my opinion).  Its actually doing REAL TIME motion sensing/tracking in all three axes, and is rather aaccurate.

Check it out if you haven't already seen it:  http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-09-playstation-3/50276 (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-09-playstation-3/50276)

Wonderful stuff.  The possiblities here are truly endless.  I guess the long awaited Lightsaber game can now be done properly.

I wanna see how tony gonna pass off 10 people as industry people especially since you have to produce documents from a recognised parent company and there's still no guarantee that they'll be accepted. Most likely I'll be there next year not with him though.

We are getting closer but i dont think it can ever truly be accomplished until we have some sort of force feedback motion controller.

Project Natal video hands-on, impressions, and further details

http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/03/project-natal-video-hands-on-impressions-and-further-details/ (http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/03/project-natal-video-hands-on-impressions-and-further-details/)

We had a chance to go one-on-one with Project Natal -- as well as its steward, Kudo Tsunoda -- and we wanted to give you a little insight on Microsoft's next big play. Plus, how could we pass up an opportunity to show off a video of us essentially flailing around like teenagers on a coffee high?

The first thing to note is that Microsoft is very protective of the actual technology right now, so they weren't letting us film or photograph any of the box itself, though what they had was an extremely rough version of what the device will look like (not at all like the press shot above). It consisted of a small, black box aimed out into the room -- about the size of a Roku Player -- with sensors along the front. It almost looked a bit like a mid-size (between pico and full size) projector.

The first demo that we played was a 3D breakout game, where the player is trying to bat a red ball (or in the case of this version, sometimes 10 red balls) toward a line of bricks at the end of a long (virtual) space. The body tracking is truly impressive -- according to Kudo, it's picking up 48 joint points on the human body. As soon as we stepped into line in front of the box, the avatar immediately took on our stance and movements. And we mean really took them on -- little gestures with our arms, the posture we had, front and back movements -- it tracked with complete accuracy. We did notice a bit of stutter during some finer movements, but overall the effect was impressive (and more than a little eerie).

The second demo was actually just a hack of Burnout Paradise, and in some ways was more interesting than the ball swatting. Kudo and his team retrofitted the racing game to take advantage of the Natal, implementing a virtual wheel for steering, and a foot forward or back as the gas pedal. The effect was nothing short of amazing -- the first time we stepped in to play it was immediately natural (save for the part about having to imagine a wheel in your hands). Sure, we wrecked the hell out of a few cars, but it was striking how easy it was to pick up the feel for it. Kudo insinuated that it would be easy for developers to incorporate this tech into pre-existing games, and we have to say, the possibilities are exciting.

After our meeting, we actually had a chance to speak with another source who was able to show us the software guts behind the Natal, so that we could understand the method by which tracking is done. The box uses two sensors for input: a video camera, and an infrared camera (that light you see in the press photo is either power, or some part of the IR setup). The infrared data is used to gauge depth and the video camera movement, but it's the software Microsoft has developed which is really doing the magic. We were shown an example of the raw output of the system, which melds the two sources and then breaks them down into a wireframe of objects, a heatmap (for depth), and a point-map (which is akin to one of those hand imprint needle toys). The software merges all of this together to create a picture of movement in the room, allowing for some pretty crazy detail of what is going on. We watched a chair being dragged into the middle of the playing field, and the software was able to continue to track the human movement, as well as that person sitting down -- it didn't break a sweat. The accuracy is far better than you would imagine it could be; it's very impressive stuff.

Obviously, Microsoft is still working out kinks and perfecting this thing, but what we saw at our demo (and super-secret demo) was mighty convincing. The demo that Sony showed of its new motion controller was interesting, but the fact that Natal is forgoing physical controls of any kind sets your mind reeling. For the other two competitors in this space, Natal could make a very, very strong rival. Ultimately it's up to developers to find truly compelling ways of using this stuff -- though they'd be fools to waste an opportunity like this.

Miyamoto teases new Zelda Wii title, dishes on Natal

His thoughts on Microsoft's motion-sensing technology? At Nintendo they like to tweak the technology and make sure it works in the game and come up with the gameplay ideas... and then show it. He looks down and smiles mischievously as the crowd chuckles softly at this answer. "Implementing technology in a way that feels good and feels natural—we've done that with the MotionPlus," he says. That somewhat contradicts the reveal from the press conference earlier today, and someone asks about how he would use the Vitality Sensor. "I think it's a very unique device that I've been interested in for quite a while."
