Hmmm I have a feeling the pirate bay won't be for torrents in the future :(
http://torrentfreak.com/the-pirate-bay-sold-to-software-company-goes-legal-090630/ (http://torrentfreak.com/the-pirate-bay-sold-to-software-company-goes-legal-090630/)
According to gaming company Global Gaming Factory X, it is in the the process of acquiring The Pirate Bay for $7.8m (SEK 60 million). The acquisition is scheduled to be completed by August and will see the site launch new business models to compensate content providers and copyright owners.
Software company Global Gaming Factory X (GGF) says it is in the process of acquiring The Pirate Bay and file-sharing technology company Peerialism. GGF claims to have the biggest network of internet cafés and gaming centers in the world.
The changeover of ownership is scheduled for August 2009, whereby GGF will take over the operation of the site.
The company says that after it has completed the acquisition it will launch new business models so that copyright owners get paid, which is clearly a huge diversion from TPB’s previous modus operandi.
-
No matter what they say about the new owners wont change it because people will stop coming on the site, there is bound to be some change...dare I say some SIGNIFICANT change that will cause the site to totally suck. Either they severly limit the content or they make users pay for registration or whatever. Thank internets there are enough aquisition sites around that if tpb is to be lost, the blow will be thoroughly cushioned.
-
The worldwide filesharing community has survived the downfall of Napster, Kazaa, and SuprNova,
which were all bigger than Pirate Bay. I certainly won't miss em too much.
All this does is add a few more clicks to my content searches.

wtf is that a haiku...EPIC.
that is the most profound shit i heard from a file sharer yet.
-
ok...?
-
I like TPB as it has alot of feedback from downloaders....makes it easier to filter out any fakes/virus crap...but yeah torrents not gonna to disappear that is for sure

if you not on demonoid, hit me up i will hit you an invite, you just mentioned the reason I use demon pretty much exclusively.
-
Ah...Demonoid has been my torrent hoss for the longest while now. I don't have the ability to give invites yet though. :(
-
I don't use them so it bothers me not.
-
No need for piratebay when you got mininova, torrentbox, isohunt and most importantly for me torrentleech
PS reading through comments to find out if something was real truely sucked on the piratebay. Too much damn fakers. Was always a last resort site for me.
-
Mininova for real. But the ultimate torrent search engine is google. Just putting torrent after whatever you searching, as long as it exists, you bound to find it.
-
Yeah this is what happens when you get too large, and in any case it seems when one closes 10 more come in to fill its place...
I doh really download that many torrents again, anyone still use isohunt.com ?
-
Torrent searching happens in stages for me, It goes something like this
Mininova .... No? :shakehead:
Isohunt (They list torrentbox torrents) .... No? :shakehead:
Torrentleech .... No? :shakehead:
ThePirateBay .... Most Likely but No? :shakehead:
Demonoid(After piratebay to preserve ratio) .... No? :shakehead:
Google .... Bunch of fake and pay crap so .... No? :shakehead: :protest:
Screw that yes warez site + rapidshare, megaupload, netload or megashares I bound to find it. :happy0203:
-
Yeah but those sites (like rapidshare) you does hadda deal with waiting queues, limited ip downloads etc... meh
-
I use demonoid, very little i've NOT found there. No upload/download limits per say.
-
Yeah but those sites you does hadda deal with waiting queues, limited ip downloads etc... meh
Not me, premium on all. Believe me well worth the money. I does kinda get fed up of waiting for a torrent to eventually finish since my torrent of choice is 1080p Movies 8 - 15 gigs. With any of those you are almost guaranteed full download speed. And seeing how games getting bigger and bigger, sometimes i just can't afford to sit and way 2 days - 3 days for something to finish you know. Not to mention those things kill your ratio on both torrentleech and demonoid which are the only 2 trackers you get respectful speeds on (Specifically torrentleech, the fastest torrents in the world there almost guaranteed full speed).
-
Funfile for getting stuff fast at an average of 250k downloads speeds easy, can go higher too. Once it's recent it's there(games,tv shows etc) and you get it FAST!! Yea they have seeding rules etc but that's my get stuff quick torrent site. You need to get an invite to join though.
Demonoid for any and everything
Those two sites alone are more than enough for me, piratebay won't really be missed by me...

Wow. We REALLy have to hope COTT dont make a touchdown on this thread eh?

For real eh. They probably tracking allyuh IP all now.
We really reach when men complaining that it taking '2 - 3 days' to PIRATE something.
Trinis eh...
-
Yeah though if you hear man knocking at your door in the middle of the night yelling COTT open up.....yeah you get where I going with this lol...... (COTT = bandits most likely)
-
If by chance what we do ever becomes illegal and punishable by law in T&T, the first man they comin for is me

Become your own PirateBay
Download their index today, before the RIAA and IFPI does
By Rob Kerr
Monday, 17 August 2009, 17:28 EVER WANTED to run The Pirate Bay from your OWN computer? Well now you can as some bright spark as created a downloadable 21.3GB index file of the site which has already seen over 1600 downloads.
It's not all the files the website has access to, just the main index which provides access to those 873,671 torrent files.
The afore-mentioned bright spark, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Torrentfreak he was disappointed with the sale of the Pirate Bay and wanted to create a backup.
After leeching this file you can be your own torrent site, but it also means the likes of the RIAA and IFPI can also download it and possibly gain access to the IP addresses of those who used the site.
The legal actions resulting from that would keep the lawyers in Gucci for a year or two.
If you feel throwing caution into the wind, get the torrent from here today. µ

I still lookin for a decent torrent site with lots of commenters so I know what is good and what isn't...
-
tried demonoid?
-
i was afraid to talk in this thread... but real pirates have cojones!
I actually use demonoid, i love it. For speed i used funfile and pretome... private, and restricted once you start leeching like a mc but the speed is so addictive!!! I do want to get a link to a 0day ftp dump though, oh how i would love to find one!
Hands down, for torrents, public, Demonoid, can't go wrong there. Also check out ilovetorrents, seeding requirements but good speed and no fake files.
btw anyone thought about getting a gatt ftp? so we can share stuff, can be anything from trailers to mp3 clips whatever..
-

These days with rampant piracy online and the tons of sites serving audio and video ah doh think a ftp server that necessary, especially with sites likes mediafire etc.

Some are more resourceful than others woodyear-san. I really don't know how file-sharing would work out in the clean cut forums that are gatt. But if by some miracle it ever comes to be, I'll definitely contribute. And you're right about serving sites like mf etc.
-
@ woodyear... well was thinking about keeping things private and gatt centric, not really for piracy. mediafire is a decent site, but what if the site vanishes and all the data goes. well it was just a thought... say wa..

phil, how would you define gatt-centric?
-
hmm well could just be any data related to gatt, whether it be benchmarking data, tournament photos, videos, or even for the clans here in the community, private storage for their gaming data etc... something along those lines. stuff may be considered insignificant for the want of a ftp server, but it was just a thought.

FEARING THAT potential new owners Global Gaming Factory (GGF) will turn The Pirate Bay into a legitimate download portal, one enterprising user has backed up the site's entire 900,000 file database into a single 21GB torrent file which is, as we write, being shared or downloaded by close to 1,500 peer to peer users.
It is now a very real possibility that hundreds of Pirate Bay clones will pop up all over the Internet, making a mockery of the amount of time and effort taken by the music and film cartels to put an end to the torrent search and tracking site's nefarious activities.
According to Torrentfreak, the first working copy of the clone is already up and running, and we're sure it won't be long before it is joined by many more.
The anonymous user who copied the database said that he wanted to have assurances that the deal struck by GGF would not be disappointing, and that if it didn't meet expectations, TPB could be up and running on another server within hours.
Swedish Internet Cafe outfit GGF is trying to buy The Pirate Bay for £4.72 million, and is proposing a new business model for the formerly freebooting service whereby copyright owners would be reimbursed for downloads, paid for by monthly subscriptions.
The four original owners of the torrent tracker were convicted in a Swedish court of breaking copyright laws, so they probably need the cash to pay their legal bills.
Copyright cops have complained that the new model would not be enough to satisfy entertainment industry insiders as it placed the onus on them to request the removal of torrent links to copyrighted material.
The database has since been uploaded, but the search function is currently disa[/quotebled due to bandwidth problems. µ

Seems like the RIAA is shooting itself in the foot with every turn eh? Try to stifle one site, hundreds more spring up. When will they learn?

Found this list useful....
http://torrentfreak.com/25-great-pirate-bay-alternatives-090822/
Full Pirate Bay Alternatives
The only full Pirate Bay alternatives are sites that index torrent files, are open to everyone and also have a working tracker. Unfortunately, there are only a few sites out there that offer this full package -there are four of them below. We decided to include Demonoid here because it tracks many public torrents.
1. Torrentbox
2. 1337x
3. H33t
4. Demonoid (semi-private)
Torrent Indexers
Torrent indexers are sites that have a searchable directory of torrent files, but don’t host a (public) tracker of their own. Mininova has a tracker, but they only allow ‘featured’ torrents uploaded through their content distribution service. The most used torrent indexers are:
5. Mininova
6. isoHunt
7. Torrentreactor
8. BTjunkie
Torrent Meta-Seach Engines
BitTorrent meta-search engines are yet another brand of torrent sites. They don’t have a tracker and don’t host any torrent files on their servers. Instead they search for and link to torrents hosted on third party sites.
9. Torrentz
10. Nowtorrents
11. Qtorrents
12. Torrent-Finder
Private Trackers (open signup)
Most of the larger private trackers require an invite to join, but there are always a few that allow new members. Below are four of these (open) private trackers and more can be found on Btracs.
13. RTN
14. BiteMyTorrent
15. BitShock
16. TorrentIt
Standalone BitTorrent Trackers
Torrent indexers and meta-search engines can be used to find torrents, but none of them will be of much use without a stable BitTorrent tracker. Standalone BitTorrent trackers are much needed, they handle the communication between downloaders but don’t index any torrents themselves.
17. OpenBitTorrent
18. PublicBitTorrent
19. The Hidden Tracker
20. Denis.Stalker
DIY Pirate Bay Alternatives
The last category of Pirate Bay alternatives are the do-it-yourself projects. By using the three ingredients below The Pirate Bay can be easily rebuilt. It might take a few hours, but then the path to world domination is clear.
21. Pirate Bay Torrents Clone
22. Pirate Bay HTML Clone
23. Torrage: Torrent API
24. Tracker Software
Last but not Least
Google, the mother of all search engines has a filetype:torrent search command that allows you to find torrent files scattered across the Internet. Also, Google’s custom search allows everyone to create their own torrent search engine. Don’t tell the MPAA and RIAA.
25. Google

you know, i was lookin for somethin like this yesterday.... actually gone to torrentfreak to see if they had anything, but got distracted lol

Hehe no probs, remember when Suprnova(org) shutdown a few years back, the bittorrent universe seems just fine :)

guys i suggest deleting this thread ...... is like a shit load of evidence ....lol

It seems Pirate Bay is going to bury themselves in the ground... literally...
Pirate Bay has a bunker mentality
Nuke this RIAA
By Nick Farrell
Wednesday, 7 October 2009, 11:08
P2P SEARCH WEBSITE Pirate Bay has moved its operations to a former Cold War bunker in The Netherlands.
According to Torrent Freak, the idea is that the music and film industries will have a devil of a job killing off the filesharing tracker if it is literally underground.
Pirate Bay executives who are currently appealing jail sentences and stiff fines in the Swedish Courts must be hoping that the bunker is a symbol of defence. However it could also be taken as a symbol of being surrounded by rival armies, playing with a handgun and cyanide pills with your girlfriend.
The CyberBunker is a Dutch ISP that can provide Pirate Bay with a facility that can resist a nuclear attack as well as electromagnetic pulse bombs.
The facility was built by NATO in the 1950s to survive a nuclear war, but after the nuclear threat diminished it was sold to its current owners. The bunker is now used as a webhosting data centre.
The bunker is equipped with Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) shielding and Nuclear/Biological/Chemical (NBC) air filtration to guarantee that the servers it hosts stay up no matter what happens.
We are not sure if this would protect against court orders, as they have a habit of seeping through the cracks and destroying things when nuclear missiles can't. µ

I was going to post this but at the bottom I saw "Whether The Pirate Bay is actually located in one of the server racks at the bunker or another hideout was not confirmed."

http://torrentfreak.com/the-pirate-bay-tracker-shuts-down-for-good-091117/ (http://torrentfreak.com/the-pirate-bay-tracker-shuts-down-for-good-091117/)
Today marks the end of an era, as The Pirate Bay team announces that the world’s largest BitTorrent tracker is shutting down for good. Although the site will remain operational for now, millions of BitTorrent users will lose the use of its tracker and will instead have to rely on DHT and alternative trackers to continue downloading.
tpbIn the fall of 2003, a group of friends from Sweden decided to launch a BitTorrent tracker named ‘The Pirate Bay’. It soon became one of the largest BitTorrent trackers on the Internet, coordinating the downloads of more than 25 million peers at its height.
Despite this success, The Pirate Bay operators today decided to pull the plug and close down the tracker permanently. The evolution of the BitTorrent protocol has made trackers redundant they say, as BitTorrent downloads work well with trackerless solutions such as DHT and PEX.
“Now that the decentralized system for finding peers is so well developed, TPB has decided that there is no need to run a tracker anymore, so it will remain down! It’s the end of an era, but the era is no longer up2date. We have put a server in a museum already, and now the tracking can be put there as well,” the Pirate Bay crew write on their blog.
Aside from this shutdown, there is also another major development quietly under discussion.
TorrentFreak has learned that behind the scenes the Pirate Bay operators are talking to other BitTorrent site owners to encourage them to follow suit and completely ditch torrents in the future. BitTorrent has reached a point where trackers and torrents are no longer needed to download files successfully. Supported by all of the major BitTorrent clients, DHT and PEX can handle the transfers and Magnet links can easily replace traditional torrent files.
“We’re talking to the other torrent admins on doing magnet links and DHT+PEX for all sites. Moving away from torrents and trackers totally – like pick a date and all agree ‘from this date, we’ll not support torrents anymore’,” a Pirate Bay insider told TorrentFreak.
Switching to trackerless and torrentless downloading on public BitTorrent sites does indeed seem to be an option. Previously, many people thought that BitTorrent would collapse if a dominant tracker like the Pirate Bay went down, but this doomsday scenario never unfolded. In fact, the recent downtime of the tracker did not slow down or stop many transfers, as DHT and PEX seamlessly took over.
Those BitTorrent users who don’t want to go trackerless just yet can of course still use OpenBitTorrent and PublicBitTorrent, or indeed one of the many other alternative trackers currently available.
Whether or not The Pirate Bay and others will move away from torrent files in the future, the closure of the world’s largest BitTorrent tracker is nevertheless a milestone in the history of the Internet. Starting today, the Pirate Bay has changed its tagline from “The world’s largest BitTorrent tracker” to “The world’s most resilient (magnetic) BitTorrent site.”
