Title: Windows 7 Activation Woe
Post by: TriniXaeno on September 28, 2009, 08:46:33 PM
Anyone else out there having issues activating Windows 7?

I'm getting this error code 0xC004C020

Something about the MAK having reached its limit.

Tried from two different IPs. One flow, one blink. Same issue.

Two different machines as well.

Even tried using the telephone activation and that won't accept the numeric audio codes.

It is like activation is down. Can anyone confirm?

Not seeing a wave of online chatter about it....so hoping I'm not the only one in this blackhole.

Full version?  RC?  RTM?

Starter?  Professional?  Enterprise?  Ultimate?

Which one is it?  That particular message may be related to the Enterprise version I think, as that one allows multiple users
from a single CD-key.

Have a read here (http://74.125.113.132/search?q=cache:PIDv_ioUNewJ:download.microsoft.com/download/6/9/5/695ba00d-c790-4c90-813a-f10539d97991/Volume_Activation_2.0_MAK_KMS_Key.doc+MAK+reached+limit&cd=5&hl=en&ct=clnk&lr=lang_en).

MAK is limited activations sir! If you need more, and can prove it's from a valid VL, they can add more activations/MAK keys.

Arcman's link is also very solid information

It's RC, not any enterprise or volume key. Just the regular one issued from the microsoft site.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/download.aspx (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/download.aspx)

They said it should work up till October 21st.

I'm still getting keys but when you try to activate. MAK error iymc. Go figure.

ah, them keys only good for 3 activations then, I think so...

but just initiate the download process again (you don't really have to dl it again) and you'll get a new Key

NoobGoneWild,

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 (http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5) . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assistance and feedback.

lol, personally, I'm impressed.

It shows the level of engagement Microsoft has with the users of their latest OS.

They're active on facebook and twitter as well (previously mentioned in another thread)

Kudos, definitely the right approach.

Thanks for the assist Jessica. My next step is generating a new keycode on a completely different machine with a different hotmail account. We have some pretty sharp techies here, but if that does not work, will try shouting out the folks on the microsoft forum.

did you get your issue resolved?  I have the same problem....dl'ed the rc and then had to reinstall twice due to corruption issues with the nvidia 260 graphic card etc....contacted windows support to be told they don't really have a live support for rc 2007.....they redirected me to a website, which didn't really have any solutions for windows 7...I have a new key, but cannot figure out how to overwrite the other one so that it will activate my windows....anybody?

@Steve
What's the exact problem, it's not Activating Online at all? Any error message?

Usually, when the activation process fails due to a bad key, it offers you the option of entering a new Product Key

nah, wasn't offering a chance to enter a new key, however on the technet site some dude showed me where to find the place to change it.  =)  thanks though!!!

But FYI, the error code was the same as the fellow above....because I had put the key on the same computer for a total of 4 times, the last time registered as too many already on that key.  BUT, if you run across anybody else that has the same problem, if you go to control panel, system and security, system...there is a place at the bottom that says "change windows activation key" and you can change it right there.  Funny the number of people on the tech site asking the same question without solution....on top of that, you'd think they'd have put it up somewhere in the "search" functions of control panel or their own website to find it!  hehe the REALLY funny part was that the tech support telephone number I called at MS (at the cost of about $50) wasn't much help either, but at least he got me on to the technet site.
