Title: Can't login to PSN
Post by: dwayne on December 20, 2009, 08:58:33 AM
Can anyone help me!!
I am using BLINK Basic package with a BELKIN G router. I can surf the web on my PS3 but I can't login to the PlayStation Network.
Do I need to change my ISP or upgrade to a different package, is the problem the router brand or type, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes i have an account and i can logon to the site you directed me to but when i login it tells me:

     malycolm3

You have not completed setting up your PlayStation profile. To setup your Avatar and About Me information, please log in to PlayStation Network account management on your PS3

From my PS3 i cant find account management, i should also mention that when i try to log in it says that the system timeout

OK, 1st off, you asked this question in the wrong forum, but you're new, so no biggie.

Now, the mere idea that you can browse the net means that your PS3 can 'see' the internet,
at least with the browser.  You -shouldn't- have to do anything to your router, but just in case
see here (http://www.richxone.com/ports/) for a bit more info on the ports used for PSN, but I'm guessing that you may not know what 'port forwarding' is.

You might also want to follow the instructions here (http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/connecttest.html).

You can only access 'Account Management' when you have actually signed in.  It will be in the 'PlayStation Network' section of the XMB.

we use the word forum broadly here.

You used the right forum (carigamers) but the wrong board.

Think of a forum as a collection of boards (basically, categories) to keep discussions around a particular topic in one place. So one board for console gaming, one board for pc gaming, another board for movies....etc...etc...

It's nothing major as the mods can move it in the correct category.

You'll get the hang of it soon enough. No sweat.

Good luck with your psn issue, I'm sure a psn veteran will guide you (like arc)

Still not working eh...

I think you may have to resort to port-forwarding...but you have TWO
devices to deal with: your Belkin router, and TSTT's Blink router.

What model of Belkin router is it?

Your browser works, so that means port 80 is 'open'.

Can you describe, in as much detail as possible, how your home network is setup?

Draw a diagram in Paint if you have to.

Attached is a sketch of my home network setup. The modem is a Blink Paradigm modem

I haven't forgotten you with this eh...but your current setup means that you will have to actually set up that
Belkin router for port forwarding, which cannot be easily done via online tutorial.  I'm afraid someone will have to visit
you to set this up properly.  Some NAT config changes may be necessary on the Blink modem as well.

An easy way around this is to purchase a nice little 8-port switch.  You can normally get one in any PC parts store for about 75-120 TT.

What you do, is to connect your Blink modem, Belkin router, PC and PS3 directly to the switch.  You will have to turn off DHCP
on the router and make the Blink modem the only device on the network that gives out IP addresses.  You can make the range
very small, say, 192.168.1.5-20.  Essentially, what you're doing here is turning your Belkin into an access point, but any device that
joins wirelessly will still get an IP address from the Blink modem.

After you've done all this, you can simply go into the PS3 network settings, and have it get an automatic address, and hopefully,
that should allow you to login.  If not, it means that some further NAT configuration on the Blink modem is necessary.

If all this seems like latin to you , then some on-site help is necessary.

Where are you located by the way?

Added a simple diagram showing how your network should look like if you decide to purchase the switch.

I live in Belmont, should I post my phone number or my email address?

Hey isn't the Belkin a wireless "router" ??

If yes, then you can get by without buying a switch.

Just turn off DHCP on the Belkin, and plug the Blink router into one of the 4 switch ports on the back of the Belkin router

You follow?

* slaps head *

Thank you Netizen1, I completely overlooked that one yes.
If its a 'router', it -should- have at least 5 ethernet ports (including a 'WAN' port) on it.

There should be no need to use the WAN port in this setup, and that might actually negate the need to
configure port-forwarding on the router itself.

Exactly what model of Belkin router is it anyway?

OK fellas! problem solved!!

the problem was what I originally thought. it seems that you cannot connect to the PSN with Blink Basic (256KB down 64KB up), all I did was upgrade to Blink Basic Plus (1MB down 256KB up), and viola,  I am connecting to the PSN.

as I mention in a previous post i did notice is if i put in the wrong password the system said wrong id or password which to me means that it is connecting to psn so it could not be any port forwarding problems. Then when I put in the correct password it timed out.

I got the idea from another post where they where debating which Blink package to use, ah cant quote that forum as ah writing this, but it was one of GATT forums.

So I am know connected, PS3 - wired and PSP - wireless

Ah boy, good to hear.

Funny how that package won't work now, as some of us playing online since 2004, and we were using the then 128 MB ADSL package, which was eventually 'upgraded' to 256 MB by the time XBL and PSN came around.  It worked then.

Well, that's the first problem right there.  TSTT's firewall will prevent traffic on the TCP and UDP
ports required by PSN for proper connection.  To connect properly to PSN and play against other
players online, that's the first thing you need to do.  Just send a very polite email to billing@tstt.net.tt
asking them to take down their firewall, and you need to mention that you will employ your own firewall,
like Comodo, or Zone Alarm.
