In phoning in (literally) its 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference, Activision Blizzard announced new installments in a slew of franchises for 2010. While James Bond, Spider-Man, and Tony Hawk drew most of the attention at the time, the publisher also tipped its hand on a new Transformers game.
Today, Activision officially announced Transformers: War for Cybertron, saying the game will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS, and PC in 2010. The publisher's High Moon Studios has been tasked with development duties. The studio is best known for 2008's well-regarded Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy, as well as the original Xbox and PlayStation 2 title Darkwatch from 2005.
Activision is billing its latest Transformers game as an origins story and sees gamers journeying to the planet Cybertron as the Autobots and Decepticons engage in a gripping civil war. As the game is set prior to the war spreading to Earth, gamers will also see the robots transforming into their original Cybertronian forms. A teaser trailer for the game below shows an Optimus Prime that leans closer to aesthetic of the original cartoon and toy line than the recent films.
War for Cybertron will feature two original story arcs. The first sees gamers picking up with the heroic Autobots, who are severely outgunned in their effort to save the planet. The second campaign indulges gamers' destructive side as the megalomaniacal Decepticons. In addition to single-player action, War for Cybertron features online co-op play, as well as head-to-head multiplayer battling.

I remember watching a review of a transformers game on G4 once, the review was either 2 or 3 outta 5 (in an adam sessler voice) but it screamed to the geek in me cause they in the least got the SOUND and Transformations down CLEAN. Adam even made a comment towards that end. This LOOKS good so far but i'll wait till I get a real review, cause honestly I would LOVE a Transformers game, brings back childhood memories *W1nTry runs off to play with his headmaster Optimus Prime*

Cybertron isn't just the homeworld of the Transformers... it is a Transformer itself. It was the first Transformer. In War for Cybertron you get to explore the Civil War between the Autobots and the Decepticons as they blast their way across the planet. At GDC we were treated to a long demo of the game, and yes, it looks good.
The characters were given all-new designs, and some of them will in fact be made into toys. The game takes place before Optimus gains his "Prime" designation, and shows his early days of gaining the trust of the Autobots; we get to see just how he learned to be a leader on the battleground. On the flip side of things, the game explores how Megatron met Star Scream. "We also explore why Megatron keeps this guy, who is basically a back-stabber, around," we're told. This game is taking the Transformers lore back to basics, and filling in some serious holes.
Luckily the game play seems to back the story up. The action is fast, and the title of the game isn't trying to be clever; this is a war game. The battles are intense, and you're given the ability to transform at will. In one section we see Star Scream fly around a large room, shooting his adversaries, changing from his jet form back into robot form quickly and fluidly. It looks great, and the expected sound effects are there.
The game is co-op, with up to three players joining the fray. You choose from three characters every round, and players can jump in and out at will. The co-op will be online only—no split-screen. The reason? The levels are large, the game uses Unreal Engine 3, and no one wanted to compromise on the graphical fidelity.
There are many small details that show we're on the Transformers home world. When you grab a turret you actually transform into the machine, creating a weapon that is part gun and part... you. When you pick up a weapon it's incorporated into your color scheme, so guns will look different depending on who is carrying them. The consoles attach directly to the chests of the characters when you open and close doors.
"The scale of the game comes from the world," we're told. Doors are much larger than they need to be. On our world these characters are huge, but on Cybertron they're dwarfed by their surroundings. You'll also explore areas beneath the surface of the planet. "This is a place where no one has been," Ars is told. "So you get to explore it alongside the characters." You'll meet beings that may still be robotic, but they seem to have much more of a basis in biological design.

Over the course of the demo, we see part of a boss fight with Omega Supreme, a character that towers above everyone else. We are assured that it is impossible to make a Transformers game without the incomparable voice of Peter Cullen as Optimus. We're told that the team focused on the gameplay first, and then layered in the Transformers.
Some games demo very well, and this may be one of them. Still, it looked and sounded great. The tiny details that make the world of the Transformers so endearing are all there. The transition from robot to vehicle was done well, and the game allows you to use both at any time. Good things happen when games aren't tied into a franchise; look at how well last year's X-Men Origins: Wolverine turned out by moving away from the film.
Transformers: War for Cybertron is coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC; we're told to look for some big announcements when it comes to multiplayer before E3.

umm no its not because of the publisher it just lost interest in the whole Generation 1 story I moved on from that I mean I grew up with the series an all but I put that era to rest. I wish I could have seen a better Beast Wars game or maybe a sequel to Armada but they always go back to Generation 1.

it was successful and was well recieved by critics an fans alike i mean I dont have a PS2 but when i was working in the store my boss gave me the game since she knows i love Transformers.

Just tried the game. IT ROCKS!!!!!! Doesn't matter if you like Transformers or not, the game is very entertaining. The whole feel of the action is just addicting.
I promised myself not to newer titles as soon as they come out because of all the older games I still have to go through, but I can't help it. I will be running through
this one from 2nite!!!!

The game real bad, I like it, one i first fling it on and started playing, i was like wtf is this, but once you get out the ship at the starting, get yua bearings, get a hang of the controls the action start soon after, and is none stop
it will go sweet CO-Op and death match, unfortunately i was "Forced" to use the acquired version just for now cause it not available on Steam for My Region yet, only the US MoFos could get it at the moment

Well the CO-Op play is 3 Max so i taking it for sure, so that makes 2! one man missing for co-op to complete the circle to get rolling in the mean time whiles others jump onboard for the death match plays

just beat this. if this wasnt transformers I would not have bothered oui.
game was pretty much a generic 3rd person shooter, with decent set pieces, some ok boss battles,(that last boss was pretty epic though) good voice acting and overall production value was above average. but with paint by numbers gameplay.
all it amounted to at the end was 'pew pew pew' squared. (what kind of saved this was the flying sequences, these added some much needed but still lacking variety)
might not be a fair assessment since I haven't tried the multiplayer though.
it may be one of the best transformers games (if not the best) but that still isn't saying that much.
not bad, but very forgetable.
