I thought it would have been a lot more expensive because lets face it, that's one AWESOME time waster.

Though you have to factor in the cost of a ipod touch/iphone if you dont already have one as a means of control so thats another 200us there one time.

well I guess so I see they mentioned Iphone and plans for Android.

But picture this, you out in the Savannah ready for some chopper fun. You really feeling like lugging a laptop around? After about 15 minutes that laptop is going to feel like like a grocery bag with 2 Bescrete foundation blocks.

a netbook then?

Nah boy, still very awkward to walk around with imo.

Just surfing around I came up on some of the many alternatives to the AR Drone.

http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/blade-msr.html (http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/blade-msr.html)

More conventional looking (and controlled) and just as fun to fly.

yes, helicopters fascinate me. Definitely getting one of these asap.

hmm not bad, want to get some of these for myself and pops. Just haven't found affordable ones yet lol but you making me want to buy that one or the other more expensive Blade Msr
Title: Re: RC Helicopters
Post by: Spazosaurus on June 28, 2010, 07:21:56 PM
Well red, the Blade MSR is a more advanced unit, requiring more skill to fly. The s107 on the other hand has the built in gyro and additional rotor which stabilizes it and makes it much easier to fly.

Is that a pro, is that a con, I dont know. What I do know is that they are both roughly the same size and the ready to fly MSR costs $100us more.

Maybe after I get accustomed to these I will graduate to the msr or whatever comes out thats better.
Title: Re: RC Helicopters
Post by: Redfish on June 28, 2010, 07:29:26 PM
yea, the tiny ones are the best bet. don't want 100us to literally crash into pieces one me lol

I does watch the fellas with the Nitro copters over here but I aint have that kinda money to spend on dat death trap. They say you have to spend hours on a flight sim before even thinking about trying it for real so I will stick with the small less expensive types.
Title: Re: RC Helicopters

For real @ simulator. They even have simulators for the MSR.

This could be the beginning of a new hobby. Only time will tell how far im willing to take it cuz u KNOW I eh have problems stepping up the game big time.

Title: Re: RC Helicopters
Post by: Spazosaurus on July 17, 2010, 07:05:47 PM
LOLLL @ tote fish.

Arc, ah have the Chinook and it badbadbad. I think its actually powerful enough to lift a significant weight. If you too heavy on the throttle it literally pelts up into the air.
Title: Re: RC Helicopters

Title: Re: RC Helicopters
Post by: Arcmanov on September 20, 2010, 12:58:24 PM
Very nice.  My Syma S107 still going strong, although it suffered a little 'battle damage'
it still flies perfectly.  30 US well spent.  I'll eventually get another, and use the current one for spare parts.
Title: Re: RC Helicopters
Post by: Spazosaurus on September 20, 2010, 01:34:08 PM
The tail decoration broke off my red s107. Had a yellow one in hand so the red one have yellow spots lol. Other than that, perfect flying from all birds.
Title: Re: RC Helicopters
Post by: Arcmanov on September 21, 2010, 07:24:11 PM
Got that Chinook, and put it through its paces just now...

OH GORM IT BADDDDDD!!!

...and good LORD, its sooo BIG.  18 inches of raw Chinook-ness.  :laughing7:

Talk about downdraft.  Once you get it trimmed out, its a real blast to fly, but its only for
outside, or very large indoor spaces, like a gymnasium.  This thing really kicks up a serious breeze
when its in flight.

Two 'issues' I noticed right off the bat...

There's a tendency for the X-mitter to lose connection with the heli at times.  Not cool
when in a controlled hover.

Also, mine seems to have a serious problem with the front rotor at max throttle.  I noticed
that the entire shaft has a pretty significant wobble.  It doesn't affect the lifting ability, but
I hope it doesn't translate into some other problem.

Other than that...this heli gets a solid F@#K YEAH!!!  :awesome:
Title: Re: RC Helicopters
Post by: Spazosaurus on September 23, 2010, 03:33:39 PM
I found that after about 30 flights my chinook developed some serious rotor vibration. I simply tightened the screws that secure the shaft to the body of the chopper and the problem was significantly reduced.
Title: Re: RC Helicopters

Got my blue S107 today...

Purrty aint' it?  :sassy:

...and best of all, I can use the other transmitter from the 1st one.
So now I have a fleet of 2 S107s, 1 S022, 1 S027 and 1 S012. :)

Great fliers, all of em, although the S027 and the S012 seem to require a LOT more trimming
than the others.

I was wondering if this thread should be the R/C Hobby thread, as I thnk it won't make sense starting a R/C Planes, Boats, Cars/Trucks, Motorcycle thread...etc.

I recently purchased an Electric R/C Plane, a Hobbico FlyZone Cessna 182. I don't have it as yet but it landed last night (get it, it landed XD ok ok nvm)

Here's a pic of it

Website link http://www.hobbico.com/airplanes/hcaa2505.html (http://www.hobbico.com/airplanes/hcaa2505.html)

I'm afraid of the helis so got this instead.....guess it's my Christmas gift to myself lol.

Doesn't seem to need a whole lot of space to take off/land so will see how that plays out.

I also plan to eventually get an electric R/C Boat, this one The Traxxas Spartan

And of course a video of it in action, now tell me isn't this boat kewl or what!!

Traxxas - Spartan Brushless Race Boat - Intro Video - #5708 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFVr0jyaYKI#ws)

Here's the link to the website with an overview etc http://www.traxxas.com/products/models/marine/5708spartan (http://www.traxxas.com/products/models/marine/5708spartan)
Really feeling like a kid again  :yay:

LLLAAAAWWDDDD...Ah want one.  Wanted one ever since I saw someone racing a yellow 3ft long catamaran from off their boat in Buccoo lagoon some years ago.  I remember standing on the beach, transfixed at this miniature craft blazing across the water.  It was a really calm day too...no chop, so the driver really had a time with it.

Try to make some vids of the Cessna in action eh...you making me want one too.  :)
Title: Re: The Official Remote Control Hobby Thread
Post by: Redfish on November 18, 2010, 03:24:25 PM
Boy, if what I do have in mind IF I get that boat, becomes a reality. I think it'll really boost the the R/C thing over here in Tobago. I love the boats too, it's just that all I thought you could get were nitro(gas) ones.

The salt water can be a real pain although they're sealed, so fresh water gonna be the real deal. I hate how much cleaning etc has to go in to caring for a nitro car/boat/plane after use to prevent corrosion and blockage so after seeing that boat and the rooster tails it's kicking up!! I instantly wanted to get it lol.

The UPS guy delivered to plane home today so when I head home will take some shots and surely will post up vids of flight. I CANNOT WAIT TO GO HOME RIGHT NOW!!!

Man now I know how ppl get a plane, then a helicopter, then another plane and another helicopter......... jeez it's like you're a kid and want the whole store but now you can somewhat afford it lol.

Apart from the plane and boat I also want a truck, the RUSTLER is the one I'm leaning towards out of the three in this video. Theyare electric btw...

...but seriously, that Spycopter 3 look like 'de real flick' as we trinis would say.

Helis lookin sweet Arc.

I now realise I didn't put an update to my previous post about the plane.

Well........first two attempts at flight resulted in crashes lol. Front landing gear got owned and thought I had killed the motor but with some good old crazy glue and patience it's as good as new.

Been trying ever since to have the right weather conditions (very little or no wind) to try again but the weather has been sucky ever since.

Think my gf have the vids of the horrific crashes lol on her phone but I'll couple those with achieved flight whenever that occurs.....

Since then pops bought a Hovercraft, yea a fricking Hovercraft.......lol

Meet the latest addition to 'Viper Squadron'.  :laughing7:

This review (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1774555&highlight=helizon+lightn+bird) does more justice to this than I ever could.

I had to forget all my co-axial experience and learn to fly all over again.
Out of the box, it was set to the much more nimble 'Mode 2' (aka 'expert') setting.
Several alarming crashes later, I decided to change the pushrod links to the much gentler Mode 1 position.  Heavy doses of win commenced.  :happy0203:

I quickly realised that my apartment is way too small to fly this properly.  Even on Mode 1, this little firecracker still operates like a hummingbird on acid.

I need a gymnasium.  :laughing7:

Of course, when I master this little bad boy...I'll be moving up to it's bigger brother (http://www.amazon.com/WLtoys-Single-Remote-Control-Helicopter/dp/B00BK8VQ04/ref=pd_rhf_gw_p_t_1_Y6AW).  :)
I just hope the price drops below $100 US by the time I'm ready for it.
