Title: ATI R420 chip
Post by: coldstorm on March 11, 2004, 04:41:35 PM
there be rumours that the r420 will not support shadder 3.0 which is codded in direct x 9.0 c. instead they said they would concentrate on shader 2.0 and make it faster. What are your views on this :P.

Been reading about this myself...think it would be a shame if they don't include the 3.0 shaders but it may turn out to be a strong point for them in the end if they can get the 2.0 shaders to run much faster and have really good image quality too. Much like their decision to implement 24bit precision as their high precision point as opposed to nVidia who followed the spec and went 32bit...time will tell.

i sure directx 9 spec said 24 bit percision .could be worng but ati & nvidia were working with Ms on it then nvidia pulled out that why nvidia got two different percision 16 bit and 32 bit

R420 will be AGP 8x'

R420 will use GDDRIII [ DDRII but faster]

R420 will come in a radeon ????? , a radeon ????XT and a radeon low end ??????XT and ??????

PCX will be the next series of cards, or the one after .

it kinda funny but who nvidia doing there pcix bridge thing going to kick ass faster than agp 8x more in line with agp 16x but how will it process early pic showing it have a big heat sink for it self

PCX supplies on 8-10% speed increase via double bus speed, the bulk of the speed will be up to the Vcard an drivers. Nvidia might do another AGP8x set because.........

THERE ARE NO PCX MOTHERBOARDS OUT YET AND IF THEY DID COME OUT THEY WOULD BE FRIGGIN EXPENSIVE

does anyone remember the AGP4x/8x debate.. AGP8x is only 3% FASTER!AT 1600X1200 WITH AA /ANISO ON.

3%?!?!?!?!?! Whoop De Doo

I think they might have basic shader 3.0 support but the 2.0 will be more perfected. I doubt you'll even notice the difference really since you hardly ever do with most cards that claim to have a great upgrade and when you actually see it you're questioning yourself, "where is it?". I won't get a new card until like 4-5 new video card models are released. They'll release new drivers for the current cards anyway, it won't be as fast but it won't be that bad either.
