You should, the game is B-utiful :)
But if you want all the bells and whistles on "Very High"...I hope you got a beastly machine...cos damn....it can suck you dry...
I did the Auto Detect and it put me on 1024x768 with "Medium" settings for the most part and "Very High" for the water effects (guess they wanted to show off their absolutely breathtaking water effects...I shudder to think of what it looks like on their "Ultra High" setting :shock: ). Now, being the doubter in Auto Detect settings that I am, I decided...no way I'm playing this on "Medium"...2600+, 1GB RAM, 128MB 9700 Pro...she can take a licking... :) So I turned up everything to "Very High", bumped the res to 1152x864, threw on the AA to 8x and the AF to 4x and hit the Save button...
At first, no problem, you're inside some kinda sewer/cave so no biggie, walls all around to stop the view distance from maxing out the hardware etc...but as soon as you step outside...and all the grass and trees and plants swayin in the breeze and the water doin its thing down near the shore...you suddenly realise that maybe, just maybe, turning up all those options just wasn't the brightest idea...the view is absolutely sweet, you instantly wish this were an actual tropical island somewhere in the world that you could visit, because it is just a sight to behold. But alas, the stutterin just is not acceptable...so I figure, turn down a couple items, leave the rest as is...worked for a bit...till you get down into the thick of things...trees all around, plants here, there and everywhere, grass all over...stress! And das jus in d bush by yuhself! Eventually met some mercenaries and learnt why bullet time in real life jes doh work :D Was stickin like mad...so fine, go wit d blasted auto-detect settings, except my 1152x864, I gotta keep something :) So now, runs smooth, but no more grass all over and stuff like that, but it still looks great. Even let me keep the water on Very High :)
I suggest to everyone that they turn everything up on the highest just to see what paradise truly looks like, breathtaking I tell ya, then turn it down so you can actually move around freely :D

get nu CAT 4.3 drivers. get latest patch for game, lots of games come off the shelf early playing laggy and get patches to increase perf.
try turning AA/aniso off [ BIG perf increase] grass is purely CPU and ram intensive, it is nothing more than lots of 2d pic clumped together randomly , the swaying of it sucks cpu power.

I'm already running the Catalyst 4.3 drivers...I tend to upgrade as soon as they bring out new ones...I refuse to turn off AA & AF, I don't need to see everything on Very High, the game looks great even with the Medium settings...throw in some AA & AF and everything else is just icing :)

I think that the PC's of thoday just failing to keep up with the software. Remember when it was possibe to run Quake 4X on one machine? ahhhb those were the good old days.....in the times when 8mb AGPs were all that was needed and 64mb ones were available. But soon we will need super PC's to run games like Half Life 2 etc

Double negatives are extremely confusing...what exactly are you trying to say? That no PC currently available is able to play HL2 at even half capacity? If so, then that would be one of the biggest mistakes ever. Something like that would hurt Valve more than anything since people would be downright annoyed with the game's performance after having to sit through so many delays...I *seriously* doubt that that is true.

Best of both worlds. The multiplayer is joke compared to the Single Player, that's the only thing.

don't forget technique Baego......there are some missions in the single player where u actually have difficulty choosin which approach is best *when the game is on hard of course*

I think that the PC's of thoday just failing to keep up with the software.
This is what pisses me off about this game, and why I'm not rushing to install it. I've had it here for a while now.
I buy a flickin FX5900 a few months ago. Third best card on the market at the time. Still in the top 5 or 6. Flickin card buss mih bank. Put me through all kinda stress. That should stand for something in the long term.
All that to bounce up a flickin game that requires more RAM and more CPU speed from me to run with everything on.
I hate playing games without everything on and set to max details...HATE it.
It flickin frustratin dread...is like yuh just can't keep up with these developers.
I know it's good for competition and good for the gamer in general. No need to explain that to me.
But sometimes it would be so good to just know that you can enjoy top-notch games for a few consecutive months on PC without upgrading yuh damn machine.
Far Cry will take a backseat until I can deal with it the way I want to. Same goes for HL2 and Doom 3.

When the game is patched the multiplayer is far better...

I beg to differ ,
Doom3 and HL2 are games that will push the envelope.
Some games need to come out compatibility settings for low end machines so that they "can sell", D3 and HL2 are the kind of games that will come out and make people upgrade to play them ..
I did actually hear that the developers of doom3 planned on going down this route ..

dis game real dred...doh let scorp get the roke launcher...but the prob is the lag...no matter wat pc we put the server on there was lag afta 5 mins....and the dedicated server thing needs commands....does ne1 know the commands btw?

When u type, do you read the words created by your hands hitting the keyboard? I hope you don't, because then u would know that the above statemen is utter crap.
1) SOF isn't the best FPS out, just the most popular due to the fact that it doesn't take much skill to play, therefore alot of ppl can play it. The more ppl playing it means the more likely ppl will be sweating it when u go into a GL, u just join their game. No need to look for a squad and organize a game. With SOF u just fall into the crowd. That's why its sooo popular, no hassle.
2) While it is true that fire in the hole gaming cannot take place in COD, due to a players tactical needs, the same does not extend to Farcry. When i look at the gameplay in enclosed environments and factor in the weapon variations and abilities, i find myself viewing FarCry as a prettier, faster, more realistic SOF. That's just my opinion, it may not be true.

to me the best thing in this game is the swimming and the vehicles...
in the team-objective u and u'r buddy can drive a jeep through the forest and kill at the same time.
while swimmin you might not see fishies but you cud chase someone with your cutlash.
i think that this game is the baddest of it's kind.

Just because you watched Malcom X and realized that it's kinda kool to get up one day and learn of the dictionary to dazzle those younger than you with pretty words doesn't make you smarter than a can of beans.
How can you seriously look in the eyes of man strike him over the head with a piece of metal three times and he doesn't die?
Why do I catch my rear end to move out of harms way and my opponent as well to pick up a rocket launcher which when detonated at close range doesn't kill me and my opponent with the real life 'splash' effect?
When I first played this game I put SOF2 out of my mind to give this game a chance to prove it's 5out of 5 on X-Play unfortunately with slow responsive dingys and a guy shooting a gattling gun at over 60 rounds a second on such a big stage
WHAT THE HELL DO YOU EXPECT FROM ME?
All FarCry did was made SOF2 pretty the movement STINKS
The characters look a bit too much like tourists THEY STINK
The weaponry was well desinged but their actual effects STINK
Far Cry is kool but can you really imagine someone walking up to me and saying
ay bAnDiT wanna play me a one on one in FARCRY
NO
And do you know why?
Because the game is based too much on teamwork which becomes tiring after having to always pick up for that ONE lazy or should I say INSUFFICIENT player

it plays better on radeon cards than the nvidia cards currently out .
