The TL;DR version?
It's a persistent-world, MMOFPS.
There's class-based level progression, and factions.
Basically looks/sounds like a more fancy, polished Planetside 2.
...oh and it's for consoles only...so, there's that.
I am...disappoint. :(
Not a fan of MMOs in general, so there goes what little interest I had in this 'franchise'.

We know what we like yes, but what we like isn't always what sells. Persistent online (think Day-Z) or straight MMO...or just online on the whole (Facebook and social) are selling.....Selling HARD. Men eh making what eh selling, and I could attest to that first hand :(
Then again. This isn't all to be shown. Respawn Studios keeping VERY quiet, Steam has not revealed what they are up to next (Ignore that Piston thing, dat eh no Valve, its a patent). But they are all moving in this direction
We shall see how it pans out. I think it's an exciting direction. It's hopefully one of many future steps of online games. Of course the "good 'ol" games are still going to be coming out. I think you will see more of them appearing from indie developers.

Maybe it will be compelling enough to change my mind when it launches, but the 'hook' would have to be something completely unconventional and awesome.

I think people are just not grasping the epic that this can become. A persistent FPS online game? Not that shit feedback Planetside 2, not Dust 514 for only 3 people playing. You talking (possible) cross platform, on 4 devices and potentially PC. You dont even know ppl.

Well if they are making the game for 4 platforms they should cut 2 platforms off, obviously the xbox 360 and ps3 so they can make the PC version instead. I am sure they will make more profit and save money that way and come on the game is being released in 2014 I can't see why they will want the game on an older platform.

but when you think about it most of the people that own ps3 and xbox 360 owns a gaming machine. The price difference might be a bit less in the beginning if they make it for pc but eventually more and more people will get better machines, not older consoles which means big money in due time

There's still commerce in PS3/360 for another how many years. Gamers of all people HATE being forced to make a choice, so telling them they MUST get it for next gen (or current gen) would just cause a shitstorm on a new IP that is not needed. The truth is developers WANT to move on, its a strategy to make the gamer THINK they made the choice...rather than it being decided years before for them.

I guarantee Halo 5 will not be on Xbox 360. It is THE reason to buy an Xbox One next fall. Halo and Xbox are like peanut butter and jelly, everyone I know who play Halo either already have their Xbox One, or will definitely be getting one before Halo drops next year.
Same goes if Epic decides to drop a Gears game our way on Xbox One. I wouldn't doubt, since the Gears Universe is big enough, don't mind that the fight against the locusts and lambent was done in GOW 3, the one thing with games and Halo is the perfect example is that you can always find another form of enemy to fight against. Next Gen gaming just started, we have alot to look forward to...

Sony exclusive to Destiny... kinda sucks after owning not just every Halo game but also PRE-console era games such as Marathon on Mac. That being said baring a real backlash from the xbox community over this I would say #titanfallthatisall should tide ppl over until it's actual release.

Fall is usually when the big boys drop
summer is usually fasting period to get ppl thirsty for the fall hype games
TF releasing when it did was smart on their part, Destiny isnt exclusive TF is so to maximize sales drop it during a barren time where anyone would buy anything as there isnt much to choose from.
KZ usually releases around late Feb as well but Sony had to have a good exclusive out at launch so it was either Driveclub gets rushed to meet launch or KZ gets rushed to meet launched. KZ was the fall guy.
OT hoping Destiny doesnt suck.....gonna be streaming, YTing this alot if it doesnt so fingers crossed

played this with Arcman, and firekyler last night
just to start, this game was NOWHERE on my radar before. Now my mind is sufficiently blown.
First off, the visuals are very impressive, no jaggies, great lighting, textures rich. This looks how it would on a souped up PC.
The SCALE of this game, you could literally go as far as the eye could see, and could literally explore almost every nook and crany, and this was just ONE world, in the ALPHA.
The upgrade system with special abilities, gun mods, armour etc. Similar to Borderlands but feels more like an mmo, but much more accessible.
the Guns feel GREAT. had a plasma rifle that was destroying fools. geezan so sweet. :awesome:

my only issue is i got booted, a couple times,and game was giving me issues to stream but I loaded back up in seconds. Again, this is an ALPHA.
Competitive multiplayer seems same old, not bad, but nothing incredible, but only played it twice. domination game mode. no lag though, great performance. Special ammo and abilities, very important.
Destiny.. you have my attention.

Exotic "Sunbreaker" gauntlets im wearing and chest piece is Legendary i bought from gaining reputation rank 2 with the Dead Orbit faction. Using a gold/Yellow shader i got on it so it can match the sun gauntlets
@ Arc yea dred 12 was easy honestly that day could of gone for 24 straight playin only reason i went to bed was so i could wake up next day for another similar shift
Now that PvE story out the way for the most part been doin Crucible and still loving it
Some of the map designs tho are plain bad for Control
too much of a clusterf$%k on B flags on some maps
just doesnt flow well on some map *lookin at u 3 mars maps*
3v3 salvage by far the best game mode
3v3 skirmish is really good too
the 6v6 tdm and control not too much of a fan of
get annoyed quick with random players and a bunch of other lil nuisances that dont be so spammy in 3v3

Honestly recommend this game for anyone
if u got a PS4 or XB1 and have active friends/clan/etc then get it. Game would honestly be painful goin through those strikes and some of those stories solo or having to rely on 2 randoms via matchmaking. Been playin for like 8-12 hrs a day of destiny this past week as im home and lovin it.

From what I've read and seen, the game only looks and "feels" good. It's an MMO regardless of what Bungie wants to refer to it as. The cornerstone of any MMO is dynamic content. There seems to be no captivating story progression. The fights are repetitive. People are reaching the max level in a matter of days. PVP isn't balanced.
If there's no depth and balance to the game then it won't last. But if you're in it for the point and shoot I guess it'll hold you for a bit.

so far im enjoying the heck out of it, even after the story. The strikes are tons of fun,upgrading stats past 20 is fairly challenging and the multiplayer is pretty meaty.
not to mention there is substantial content coming very soon.
it clearly isn't for everyone, but if this getting pong why plenty other triple a games didn't? how the hell cod ghosts beat this in scores? I really can't take reviews too seriously anymore. Only Adam and well he gone.

I judge games I'm interested in on the strength of demos, alphas and betas now. (The one recent exception is Watch_Dogs. I fell for the hype...hook, line, and sinker. :lol: )
If it grabs me there, then I'll usually pre-order it...reviews be damned. People get too 'entitled' now, especially reviewers.
Their opinions (and they are only that...OPINIONS) are of little practical use to me anymore. I rather watch TotalBiscuit videos for gameplay impressions than read a review.
Gamers clearly voted with their wallets and their free time on this one. They all have their reasons for investing...as do I.
If someone asked me if they should buy Destiny, my response would still be an enthusiastic 'F@#K yes!!!'

You know i remember them saying from very early that all the classes can use the same weaponry but it's the skills and armor stats that differentiate your character from the others . so reviewers complaining that they finished a team raid and everyone got the same gun or that dinklebot performance wasn't up to par or early game difficulty is just too hard is just people nitpicking, i enjoyed the Alpha the Beta and was looking forward to max leveling a character so personally matters not to me i'm gonna play the heck out of this game like i did with wolfenstine new order and i'm gonna enjoy it as much as i can.

The reviews are on par with what I was feeling while playing the alpha/beta, there just isn't enough variety that would give this game any type of longevity, hopefully this can be remedied in updates as the core game is severely lacking.
Destiny did not live up to its destiny. I rate it 2 out of 5

destiny is epic. i love the game. since the game came out most of my psn friends have been playing the game nonstop so i really dont understand the reviews, only thing i agree with them about is the story. only problem i had. but the gameplay and going after gear is excellent and keeps u playing

From what I've seen so far after playing it for a few days, it is definitely a game you need to play with friends. If you are going to do this game solo it is not worth it. The campaign is bland and I find the narrative weak. That said the multiplayer pvp is solid and it is good that character progression works in both pvp and pve. If you liked Borderlands you'd probably like this game.
I'll play it a bit more but don't think it will hold my interest for long. Just feels a bit repetitive to me. My opinion anyway, for those that loving it that's great.

I played the alpha and beta the only difference i found is that playing solo is a little harder than before but i still enjoy it. For me it's the challenge that makes killing an enemy after having to run away all the more satisfying as for the story there is obviously room for improvement but being an online game with all sorts of dlc on the way i can see myself playing for a while.

From what I've read and seen, the game only looks and "feels" good. It's an MMO regardless of what Bungie wants to refer to it as. The cornerstone of any MMO is dynamic content. There seems to be no captivating story progression. The fights are repetitive. People are reaching the max level in a matter of days. PVP isn't balanced.
If there's no depth and balance to the game then it won't last. But if you're in it for the point and shoot I guess it'll hold you for a bit.
for the most part pvp is balanced minus the hunter's arcblade super

Anyone having connection issues with this game? I get disconnected alot at night on PS4 Flow.

i get some connection errors every so often it's kind of annoying with flow also.

joined this site a while now but this is my 1st post :hello:
Since launch I've been playing Destiny for at least 6 hours everyday; currently a level 26 warlock :happy0203: and enjoying every minute of it.
with regard to destiny's story, i have to agree that it's really lacking. I like playing games to find out about the story, even if it isn't that good (I've played through the last 4 cods) and I still felt nothing wrt the universal struggle that my guardian is supposedly engaged in. For a supposedly cosmic battle, the might of "The darkness" was never apparent to me; the end left A LOT to be desired. The story just seems riddled with many DLC-shaped holes, and if that's the case it might probably stay that way for me. Haven't had a game with a satisfying storyline with the exception of The Last of Us, but that's a gripe for another thread i guess.
The raids i find to be quite enjoyable, playing by myself, with friends, or with randoms. I hardly ever got paired with ppl who weren't playing as a team, with/without a mic. I found completing a raid on a high difficulty setting all on my own to be quite entertaining as it added a different level of urgency to my gameplay, even if it did take forever.
As was expected the game looks amazing and controls smoothly so not much to say there. Pvp is quite enjoyable, if a bit sparse in it's available game modes. As was mentioned previously the only annoying thing is to get killed by a hunter's bladedancer ability after emptying an entire clip into them.
Also, the weekly limiter is bs as i was capped within 2 days. that needs to be modified. All in all, I found the story to be the only weak point, plus a bit more weapon variety can't hurt. Review sites be damned! :violent5:
