I'm and android fan boy but lately I have been looking for something new.. Messiaah I know we had our argument in the past over the MS phones but I'm a network admin and I more lean to solutions that is clean less buggy and is compatible out of the box.. I must say.. MS really have me Iookin at their phones.. I like the direction they are going with the phones.. Instead of competing with the leaders for app support and etc.. They are making their phones more geared for the cooperate market and a new market called "phonetograpghy " in my view.. When I saw this I actually wanted one.. Of course my work has to buy it for me I not spending my money to own one.. But MS have some good stuff going on here

Scene, and when GDR3 and WP 8.1 release, it will be even more geared to enterprise.
With encryption, mime, vpn support etc. There will even be vpn aware apps. so if a particular app cant connect it will auto dial vpn in the background and access resources...there's an article floating about somewhere with the enterprise features coming later this year, when I find it ill link it.

Who should get the 1020? Anyone who owns a DSLR and contemplates whether or not they should lug their camera around when heading out for the day. Likewise if you carry a Canon PowerShot or similar camera around with you for events. The Lumia 1020, for all intents and purposes, makes having to carry an extra camera around with you nearly a thing of the past. While the image quality is not as good as those cameras, it’s almost good enough at this point. Throw in the convenience of immediately posting to Instagram (Oggl Pro, Instance), Facebook, email or whatever network you want and the Lumia 1020’s advancements are obvious.
What if you currently own a Lumia 92x? This question is more difficult as first and foremost, your financial situation is a big consideration. If money is not a concern, then yes, you’ll be very happy “upgrading” to the Lumia 1020. The only downside is you will lose the built in wireless charging, though you can add it back via a charging cover for the device. If you’re on a contract though and the Lumia 920 is “good enough” for you in image quality (plus it will improve with the Amber/GDR2 update that is forthcoming), then you will want to wait for the next-generation Lumia. There’s no doubt that support for 1080P displays and new Snapdragon processors is right around the corner and you’ll have to decide which is more important: perceived performance improvements and display quality or the Lumia 1020’s camera? Remove the Lumia 1020’s camera and it’s a welcome, but minor improvement over the Lumia 920.

DSLR go still destroy it, but then again, people don't be walking around with DSLR, they does be walking around with point and shoots. So it seem this camera is bad enough to tackle that. And for d serious photo men, they go still have they DSLR home for special events.
I'll be honest, I didn't expect it to be good enough to take on a proper powershot.

A DSLR will destroy that phone.
What the author is saying is, the phone good enough to warrant leaving yUh DSLR at home.
But u still have yUh DSLR for serious business.
But a DSLR will unequivocally destroy the 1020.
But yes , the 1020 is good enough to not have to wonder if to bring it.
Because if u have an important event, you will know before hand, walk with yUh DSLR Beast if yUh have it.
For everything else, 1020 seems to serve well.

Hell, I'm the Nokia / WP fan here, Im the one that go be laughing meh belly full rocking meh 41mp whiles alyuh android men drool :laughing7:
But my Love for Nokia, and passiong for tech, not going to make me delude myself into thinking a 1020 can compete with a dslr.
I have a full resolution photo of a 1020 infront of me now, next to a shot taken from a high end dslr, and i am tellin u, there is no comparison, the 1020 get it ass wash.
But everything is a matter of perspective. If you require a camera that cost 5 times as much, to get that quality, is it worth it? For most people no, its not. But by no stretch of the imagination can the 1020 compete with a good dslr when u talking strictly quality of photo. When you bring Price and Portability into the equation, that's ah whole other discussed. then yes, a 1020 can most definitely cause many to forgo DSRL.
But the true camera buffs will never give up they DSRL for that.

Was talking to red last night, looking for a good dslr, man say he recommend for casual use starting with an entry level 1500$ kit yes........for casual.......he on a different level, lol, man serious about photos. Is men so go watch d 1020 and laugh.

Hmmm! Look at that price! Well so much for the argument about the 1020 being around the same cost as something comparable like the Galaxy S4...That's a over $250us premium!!
.....or better yet, nearly $700us more than a Nexus 4!!!!! I mean sure, it has a good camera but that is just stupidly expensive.

Guys stop being ridiculous... The device has barely been released to more than att (most unlocked suppliers are still on preorder) and is selling for between 200-300usd with a plan which is what all regular high end smart phones sell for at launch
Wait for the device to become mainstream and stop gawking at price, all high end smart phones are comparable at this price on initial release, much less for a revolutionary device... Hell when the iPhone 5 release it was 800+usd..

And correction, d iphone 5 was a whopping 850$ US unlocked at launch, in non-US countries like germany, those guys paid 1000US Unlocked for the phone at launch.............. lol.
I can get the 1020 from my supplier for 750US Unlocked (which is what i normally pay for a flagship at launch), and the fact it replaces a point and shoot, that is rel bess price right there. And like phoenix say, give it a few months, that price going to drop easy. I paid 750$ US for d 920 at launch, 6 months later man buying it for 300$ stueps, ridiculous, but thats how d industry works.
And d surface didnt sell because of the price..............seriously guys? lol.
No windows rt tablets sold, non. Windows RT quite frankly buss, lol. Event if it was cheaper (like it is now) it wouldnt ah help them much. That's ah different kinda battle they fighting they, price is only a small part of it.

I'll agree to that, the launch prices of all flaghship smartphones is ridiculous, isolating the 1020 out of the bunch and doing like it alone is overpriced is not fair, at launch, they are ALL overpriced.

In an article by the Financial Post analyst company Canaccord Genuity revealed that their August retail checks found Windows Phone was doing relatively well.
They found gradually improving Windows Phone 8 smartphone sales due to strong sales of the Lumia 520 and other mid-low-tier Lumia smartphones.
Surprisingly however the rather expensive and niche Nokia Lumia 1020 was also doing well.
“We believe Microsoft has recently worked more in concert with Nokia to drive sales, as evidenced by Microsoft’s advertising campaign highlighting the Lumia smartphones and features, and the Nokia 1020 is a top 3 selling smartphone at AT&T,” Canaccord analyst T. Michael Walkley said.

Earlier this week we saw Amazon.com run a special one-day sale on the 41 MP Nokia Lumia 1020, reducing the price to just $199. Now, AT&T has followed in their steps and lowered the price from $299 to a much more affordable $199 on contract. Off contract price has also dropped to $609 from the higher $659. All three colors, including matte yellow, matte black and matte white qualify.

ebay and those unlock sites sometimes when its really new you have to look around but almost all of those unlock people are the carriers workers doing their thing on the side it usually takes about 15 - 30 mins normally if they have to make a request for it might take a couple weeks maybe less
Just read the article ... AT&T doesn't want ppl to unlock their phones ... because that means ... they will go to other carriers so I know their policy used to be you have to wait 6-8 months before you could unlock the device without contract people with existing contracts usually have no problem getting the codes for example when I bought my Vivid I couldn't get an unlock code at alllll... bought it no contract... took about a month to get the unlock code...

Omg why keep comparing price of phones that have been released for months, with a phone of far superior tech that has only been barely released.
Go compare it to the s4 launch price... Only early adopters that could afford to swing cash buys brand new unlocked high end devices... Most of the regular folk like you and me usually wait a couple months
dont single out this device... at launch ALL unlocked high end smartphones retail for a ridiculous price...

So 1. Your allegid unlocked price is not accurate.
and 2. Like phoenix point out, d phone barely have time to get out d door and u want to compare it with phones on d market for months? I say give it a few months it will drop to d same price as all them others.
and a good point and shoot costs 3-400$, yUh replacing that with this phone as well.
It quite simple, if yUh want d best camera phone in d world right now, pay yUh money, if u willing to wait a couple months (like most ppl typically do), yUh get it cheap.
But nothing, I repeat, NOTHING is wrong with the 1020's price. Its no different than any other flagship launched in the past 3 years, it actually cheaper at launch than most others.

Wyatt d price right there, lol, click buy, it have d price for d white and black, and I order all my phones from clove, it not availed because they have no stock, they expected to get it soon. No need to show u any viable alternative because clove and expanses are d best. Official retailers, not some random seller unjustly marking up a phone on amazon when it now launch.

And to plug any remaining loopholes u mite be looking for, you have to use d vat free price, because yUh does pay vat from the country you're in. If you buy a phone from amazon, be it iPhone or s4, you going to pay yUh 35% when it reach Trini, but buying from clove has an extra bonus, they send smartphones as mobile computers, so tax free to Trini, lol. For Trini clove is d best place to buy launch phones.
But when some months past, you go find various other sellers going for cheaper than clove, but at launch, you can't beat clove. Also, is d UK model of the phone yUh getting, which means no gay AT&T shenanigans blocking features like internet sharing etc.
YUh satisfied now? Lol, like u eh take meh Arnold pic boy lol.

I purchased many times from clove, i preorder my 920, whatever is d price displayed u going to pay that at maximum. I pre-order 2 920s before it release, and as soon as it avaiable, they ship it out from d first batch. My product had get ship and d item never even came in-stock, cause all d pre-orders were sold out. So on d website it remain out-of-stock, but i get my item, and they keep in constant contact with u to let u know whats d latest info they have on availbe stock.

If yuh want d phone now at a reasonble price, pre-order it from clove and that is d fastest place to get it. They will get it first before anybody.
That "amazon" price is fellers who buy it from at&t , use d unlock code that preston mention, and mark it up to unreasonable prices. That happens with every flagship launch phone known to man.
Dont u think before u buy d phone at a proper price it have to first be available to official channels? D phone only launch on AT&T at the moment, UK launch incoming at which time all d UK retailers like clove, expansys etc will have stock at good prices to buy. But if u want to assure yuhself one before it sell out, pre-order from clove.
They will ship straight from d UK directly to any trini address for something like 35$ US tax free.
I guarantee u yuh paying 765$ US + 35$ shipping for d phone, if u pre-order it now from clove.
If yuh not willing to pay that price, then wait a few months for price drops from them same amazon pirates.

1) They do not have stock

That leaves us with the option of the Amazon link I sent. Full stop.
Unless you have an alternative link, there is no other price available for an unlocked phone today. Call me noob as much as you want, the fact remains.

what we've been saying is it WILL remain that way until the phone hits mainstream... additionally, it is the normal process of things... we get it... no need to rinse and repeat..
where you start to come of topic is by saying crap like.. its expensive compared to the nexus @ 350 and s4 @ 600... phones that have been mainstream for a few months, and also of lesser technology.. that has nothing to do with finding a reasonable price for the lumia...
if you are willing to consider this phone for your wife, my recommendation to you is WAIT... my recommendation to anybody on newly launched devices are to wait.. in a couple of months the price usually drops significantly...
next time when an nvidia device launches i should go in that product specific thread and say damn thats expensive, it have a amd card that launch 6 months ago that is cheaper

I get all of them for 750us at launch. That's d standard price for a new unlocked wp flagship from them.

@woodyear, I pay a whopping price of 0$ duty from clove for ...allllll....my phones purchased.
they ship it as "mobile computer", and since Trini have no tax on pcs, is gg. All other sites ship it as "smartphone" so level duties in yUh skin.

@ Phoenix, Misses birthday passed already so I got her an Iphone 5 for TT$3700. Showed her the Lumia but she insisted on the Iphone 5 (thankfully, else my VISA was going to get mandingoed by the outrageous price on Amazon for the Nokia 1020)
Did not have the liberty of waiting for the price to come down to a reasonable level.
Also, my dad's birthday just passed and grabbed him a Galaxy Note 2 on Thursday for $2300. Was considering the Nexus 4 as well.
So as you can see, I was presently in the market for new smart phones. When you see me asking time and time again for an alternative link to a cheap Nokia 1020, is not for kicks or picong.
No need to get overly defensive and to call for an end of the "dead horse" talk.

Well then yuh dont have ah problem then, becuase d phone will undoubtly get cheaper, like i say, i guarantee u clove's display price. I've never seen a wp release for more than 750~800 US. it just never happened. D only phone that does cross that mark at launch is d iphone, which usually goes for 850~900US unlocked even from official channels.
If you can wait, then just wait. But when d phone is widely available, the cheapest u will get it intially from an official shop is 750 Unlocked (clove). If u want it down to d 500$ price range, u go hadda wait ah 6 months. Which will be closer to dec-feb.
And this device going to come in limited quantities initially, (that 41mp sensor not mass produced and not easy to make). The 920 was initially in limited quantities at launch as well, because it was d first phone with OIS. Which was tricky initially as well. 6-8 months later, 920 going for 300$ and under lol.
So d ball in your cort, no need to beat ah dead horse like phoenix say. We've provided you your options.
Either u wait and get it soon (1-2months) @ 750~, or wait 5-6 months and get it for 3~400$
If those prices and time frame not lining up with when u need the devices, then just buy ah iphone or galaxy, nobody forcing yuh hand lol. But the fact that u even considering it says alot for that 41mp beast. Personally, it's worth the wait. I definately getting at least 1 for the misses this year. Whether i get 1 for myself depends on how good the 1520 is, which launching month end.
The 1520 incase u didnt know, is a galaxy note 3 (same specs), rocking a 20mp pureview OIS 6 Lens camera.......yes, it will be the mother of all phones when released. It wont have that mega 41mp cam, but the 20mp cam it go be rocking will be better than any other phone on the market sans Lumia 1020.
So i considering it hard, especially seeing the wife will have a 1020, so i go still have access to the superior cam tech when we out and about. Mite be willing to sacrifice that extra 20mp for the increased specs for the 1520. Waiting to see.

I expect you will be following it more closely than most of us.
The US$500 budget, to be clear, is for my personal phone. In the case of a purchase for the misses, there is no real limit. Woman have to get whatever she want else is hell to pay in the house. Had she chosen the Lumia over the Iphone, would have bought it at the stupid price on Amazon regardless (and cry for the rest of the year while washing cars @ KFC independence square to replenish savings, lol)

My plan was very similar to yours....convince her to get the 1020 so I would have access to the epic camera while we are out and about together. lol
Ps no ebay links please, got burned already with schemers on ebay, not gonna risk that with a smartphone.

I usually use CSF, but when buying from clove I don't use skybox I ship direct, 35$ US for direct FedEx from clove to yuh doorstep. Tax free :), provided is a smartphone yuh buying eh, never buy anything else from them. But d smartphones I buy was shipped as mobile computers.

I have somebody coming in from England to here in October, I think ill be pre-ordering mines to let them bring it in for me (cause unlike Trinidad, is level duties over here for PC imports lol, normally I does schedule my phone purchases to co-incide with when I in trini to get my gear tax-free, but eh hitting trini this Christmas, so go have to get my tax-write-offs by other means :) )
